      It's called respect for your guests. Not alot of interviewers have it. They tend to cut you off during the answer to their questions which pisses me off. If I was being interviewed If they interrupted me 2 times I'd stop em and say do you want to hear this or not? They do it again I'd walk off. As an interviewer show respect to those who take their time to do the interview. And respect the person asking you the questions. It's not rocket science.

    An honor to have watched Jon’s podcast with Shia. Shia seemed so tired, aged and haggard. He was just so raw, an open soul, gosh it was powerful, he seemed genuinely appreciative of someone that had experience what he was experiencing and letting him know there were other ways, better ways through the journey and burdens he was carrying. To know that you must own your screw-ups, to learn from those lessons, that Yes there are better choices to make that will allow you to start healing. It seemed that he came to understand and realized that he needed to put in the work for/to recovery. I believe that he came to understand that Failure was no longer an option. Once you bring a child into this world, you no longer live for yourself. G-d has given you/us many precious things utmost - children.
    Your friendship with Shia is yet another gift. Again - Thank you Jon and Shia. May G-d continue to Bless Both You.

    That full interview with Shia as well as Shia’s interview with Bishop Barron are so raw and honest. He owned his mistakes and trying to make things right with the people he hurt. He made no excuses or looking for a typical Hollywood “slap on the wrist” outcome. Shia never tried to make himself the victim and I have mad respect for Shia on that because that’s owning your mistakes.

    • @tammiepage6489
      @tammiepage6489 Рік тому +15

      Yeah, I do praise him for that because there’s so many guys that would do what he did and not own up to it. That tells me that you know he knows his mistake. He regrets it he’s really showing remorse. You know that he knows he probably I need to help, and that is refreshing because again that some guys I’ll do that stuff and try to sit there and act like they did nothing wrong. At least he’s only up to what he did. I mean I’ve seen some stories I’m happy people are not giving them a hard time because I’ve seen some celebrities apologize for things they made mistakes for and they still get punished for it and still sit there and bash and I think that’s fucked up. They say apologize I mean I know some slow is apologize and I don’t really mean it I understand that, but my thing is this you need to realize how hard it is to apologize to the world, I’m not perfect. They do the same things as we do they make mistakes. Yeah but it was Larry Owens up to the mistakes and apologize for the Julisa bashing them they shouldn’t have to. You know make it when they make mistakes should have a room in their life for a career.

    Jon, I listened to the Shia podcast. I was married to a mentally-emotionally abusive alcoholic for 15 years. I was sexually assaulted as a teen and young adult. Listening to Shia, a man who struggles deeply and has injured others just as deeply, but who also acknowledges who and what he has been and done, takes complete ownership to these injuries, but is trying desperately to be a better man… gave me hope. People can change. People can heal. People can choose better ways. Changing the mindset takes hard work. God is bigger than all of us. And forgiveness is important. I appreciate that you took a risk with Shia. I hope more injures people listen to what he explains. Thank you.

      @mugiikari1641 Рік тому +30

      I have also been in a few emotionally/physically abusive relationships, one of which was really bad and ended up with them being arrested. I stayed with that person for a while afterwards (generally not the right decision) but I ended up losing all the trust I initially carried for them and diving into a brutal depression that forced me to end it. I am still friends with this person. Why? Because they made an effort to be better and while it wasn’t enough to save the relationship, this is still a human being I care for. People who know this criticize me but they’re just a product of the colorless, grayscale-less world we live in. Everybody can be evil. And why we should definitely call out when someone is doing wrong, we should also permit them the ability to understand what they’ve done wrong and allow them to change. It’s kind of how screaming at a dog and kicking it out of the house isn’t going to train it to not jump on guests. Canceling people isn’t going to address the problem, it just promotes fear and gives people an excuse to witch hunt any person they don’t like.
      Abuse is obviously not okay. But instead of permanently excommunicating abusers from society, we should be more adamant on rehabilitation so that they improve. Sure, there’s some people who are always going to be problematic. But most people act in ways they have seen demonstrated to them as okay and society should work on conditioning those people to become better. Does Hollywood actually give a shit about abuse or rape? Obviously not. It’s all extra credit performative bullshit.

      You know that Shia is completely full of ish, right? The guy is one of the biggest scumbags in Hollywood, and that's not easy to accomplish.
      He thinks black people deserve to go to hell for their skin tone, and the hatred in his voice and eyes when he said that tells me that's how he truly feels.
      If a Conservative had ever made comments even remotely similar to what Shia has made over the years they would be rightfully cancelled. Shia gets a second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth chance for whatever reason.

      Many focus on the perceived lack of justice around these types of issues, and while that should definitely be a major concern, I sometimes feel like we should also consider the virtue of mercy as well, and how in many ways it can be forgotten about in these scenarios. Obviously mercy isn't something that should come cheaply or automatically, it is something that should be offered to those willing to open themselves to it if they are truly striving to turn from their wrongful ways. I read something somewhere that went like this: justice and mercy are two parts of one whole. Justice without mercy can become injustice in the same way that mercy without justice can.

      @Noran Micholas I agree with the idea that both parties are in need of help. We saw that most recently with the Depp and Heard trials. Both parties were guilty of a lot of unkindness and poor behaviour towards each other. I don't get that vibe from Shia's story (but will accept the info we have is very limited). Sometimes there IS a victim and a perpetrator. Perpetrators still need help, but in a very different way. And it's generally true that they only seem interested in help once they are caught/exposed, which isn't true for victims.

    Saw John and Shia's interview the other day and that led me here. I'd have to say I understand where Shia was at. I felt for him, I felt it very deeply, so as much as it may have received backlash, it has also received a lot of praise and for many it was an eye opening experience. I'm so glad that John gave Shia a platform to discuss and take accountability. I gained a LOT of respect for both of these men in that one interview.

    Have just watched the interview and I'll repeat what other woman who have been in abusive relationships have said; I truly found some healing for myself through watching this. I've struggled with the male/female dynamic and trying to understand why there is such a power struggle between men and women. Watching the interview and seeing such honesty and a willingness to change, and the lesson that will teach other young men, is so important. This needs to be shared over and over. Jon has such a good heart and I'm just so grateful to see men who will stand up and say NO, this is not ok and it's time to change. Fooking brilliant. Please don't stop talking to men about this. Be the change. Peace.

    I watched the interview a few months ago and said to myself _This needed to happen._ For Shia, for Jon, for men in general, for everyone. I kept thinking back to it. I felt such a gratitude witnessing it in real time in its intensity and rawness, along with the compassion and the empathy. I was sad when it ended. I felt like I was sitting with them, then suddenly I was pulled away. That's how powerful it felt.
    I'm happy Shia found his way and has a family (what an incredible redemption story), and I wish them all the best in their health and endeavors. I'm happy he has friends like Jon who didn't just abandon or cancel him. It's a great example for us all. None of us are morally superior. We live, we learn, we die. Thanks Jon for making it happen. *You and Shia are real ones.*

      Why do you have that much empathy for people that think all blacks are going to hell for their skin tone? Seriously though...
      Spend some time finding people that actually deserve your empathy man. There's a lot of them. Shia isn't one of them. The guy is a mentally ill scumbag.
      It amazes me how fast people forget, and it wasn't like the racist shit was a one off. He's done a bunch of really scummy things throughout his career and for whatever reason he keeps getting forgiven.

    When I watched this conversation between Jon and Shia, I was in a state that could go either way. I went in a good direction after seeing these guys talk in a real, raw, honest, and compassionate way to each other that it had a therapeutic effect on me and gave clarity to deal with my situation. I can't imagine growing up as a kid in Hollywood on the level Shia did with all the sleaze, corruption, and dishonest hypocrisy that has been so exposed in the past few years. No excuses for behavior but absolute compassion for anybody that's made mistakes and sincerely wants to make real amends for the damaged they caused. We all deserve at least that in my opinion. So, hope and goodwill for Shia finding peace and much respect to Bernthal for his humanity and decency! What a stand-up guy!
