It's easily one of the greatest character introductions in a movie. When he says, " He wasn't exactly the boogey man.... he was the one you sent to kill the fken boogey man. " You knew it was over, and john was that guy.
There was a collectively whispered, “Oh, sh!t…” in the theater.

In Hollywood... character introduction is not so much done this way. Watch Indian movies not everything is good some maybe cringe ... yet I suggest war, dhoom, bahubali, there are many nothing comes to mind now. See these ...you will like the build ups. John wick is liked by all ... like the fourth was a sensation in India. However I became fan of him from the first one itself. And ofcourse who won't like Keanu reeves ❤
At that moment, Viggo knew two things: that hell was about to break loose and that his son would suffer the consequences of his actions.
The whole Tarasoff empire was about to suffer the consequences.
What expect he’s a punk ass kid that was raised soft and now his father can’t even save him like really maybe if Vito would have raised his son right with manners and respect he would be still alive, but it is what it is I guess

One of the best lines in film history. No further context is needed about him.
His use of the f word, the intonation and the added emphasis, is beautiful. Only uses it a few times but gets it perfect each time.
The moment Vigo says "Oh" after getting an explanation of why his son was slapped is all you need to know about John Wick
"John will come for you. And you will do nothing because you can do nothing."
And the "oh" his son said was when the Clue Brick hit him.
the way Viggo explains John Wick like he's a legend but also every assassin's worst nightmare gave me Punisher Vibes (if Frank Castle's dog was murderd instead of his family)but much more badass

The buildup to John and what he is, just brilliant. The fear on everyone’s faces when they realized what that punk did and who he did it too…….amazing.

I read somewhere that John's official introduction was a great inversion of the horror movie "harbinger" trope, where someone knowledgeable warns the main character(s) of a coming or dormant evil and gets ignored. In this film, however, the monster (Viggo's son) in being warned that the main character is coming, and he also initially ignores it. 😆
Nyqvist was an unbelievable actor. It's unfortunate that his career was cut so short.

Even a scarier when you realize that John went after people who frightened a Russian Mob boss. Taking care of boogeymen to the average person's boogeyman was Wick's 9 to 5.
the way Michael Nyqvist delivered (R.I.P) this monologue is just perfection, to me personally if it weren't for this monologue this franchise would of taken off like it did.
Its seems to me like his "Russian" accent turn to Swedish accent when he speaks fast at the end 😊
The way he delivered 'Oh' on the rooftop instantly set the tone with barely a word spoken, too.
Giving it some thought...i would argue that it was the dialogue in Aurelio's shop and then this monologue that lead to everything...because you should be asking why is Aurelio turning down this mint Mustang, but he knew who's it was, the interaction w/ Viggo's son that led to the call.
Hard to believe that this movie will be 10 years old this year!
John buried his past and after the last remnant of his wife was killed, he dug up his past and went to work.
He started destroying the "foundation" he built for Vigo. That's what I got from that.
At the 3:31 mark that’s a nice touch to hear Nat whispering.

This is simply the best presentation of a character, the fear in Viggo's voice, Aurelio explained to him what the son did and that ou was enough to give us an idea of something, but as soon as he starts to explain who John Wick was with that low voice and in a dark tone while John goes down to the basement he begins to hammer while he continues narrating his story that scene is perfect, at that moment you realize that a deadly massacre and shootout is coming closing with Viggo's call to John trying to calm the Cheers, the cutting of John without saying a word, to a mafia boss type, powerful and owner of an empire, it is a matter of waiting to see if this John Wick really was what he narrated and he never disappointed John was and is a masterful murderer.
"Hes the one you send to kill the fkn boogeyman" gives me chills EVERY SINGLE TIME.
The craziest thing is Keanu really is the baba yaga in real life. There's a reason why he rides the subway unguarded and nobody messes with him.

Everyone? This brilliant piece of cinema started with absolutely incredible screenwriting. Usually reserved for introducing villains, seeing this same method to introduce a protagonist is nothing short of breathtaking.
When Viggo says 'Oh', it is at the moment that he realizes the reverent idiocy that his son has done and that he is already dead. That it is no longer a question of 'what if it happens', but of 'when it will happen', because he knows that John Wick is coming for his life and his soul and that he himself will follow that same path because, even though he is an idiot, He is still his son and there are rules not written in ink, but in blood, that he must follow.
John Wick is a man of focus, commitment and sheer will

If I were in his shoes... I would've gone full Omni-man. "What's another 18 years?". Offer apology in a far more earnest way, and ask John what needs to be done to make things right. At least this way you put the cards in John's hands. If he hangs up, hell is likely to break loose. If he demands you give him your son, you do it.
Nah at that point, John had let go of the hope his wife had given him. He’s back, back to being the machine programmed to kill and destroy, and nobody can stop him now. Your only hope would be to flee and change everything you are and pray he doesn’t follow
Still one of the greatest character building scenes of a “hero” not showing just go awesome he is but the fear in the villain he inspires

The actor who plays Viggo is fantastic. The way he sells John's terrifying reputation is a big part of why the whole series is what it is.
The funny thing about John Wick is that it wasn't just about the dog, it was about respect and being allowed to just mourn in peace. John wasn't even given the courtesy, and for it to come from a group and person who he worked for and fought for to make him the man he is that day is just one step too far. At the end of the day, John was never going to be allowed to live in peace after what he went through in his life.
Watching this the first time, this kind of reaction to movies wasn't that big a thing, but I remember looking frantically for anyone to see their reaction. I was clearly not alone

The ONLY connection i have between Viggo and Russia.... is Viggo Mortenson playing a bad ass Russian in a film "Eastern Promises". Extremely underrated, nevermind the weird casting choices.

I watched every John Wick movie once they had all been released in a single sitting. I hate waiting more than a year to see a second part of the movie. It’s so frustrating how long it takes to make these films so I waited until they were all released as I am a huge fan of Keanu Reeves and I don’t think I blinked more than three times during all of the films for fear of missing someone getting shot in the head in the chest at the same time. Donnie Yen who played the blind assassin. Caine and also played Ip Man {Bruce Lee teacher from China} is my old time favourite martial arts actor and as a martial arts instructor myself I can tell you the guy is Good. It was my favourite movie of the series.

For the longest time, Keanu Reeves was always called "Neo" or "the one" because of the Matrix. Now, a lot of people know him more as John Wick.
Now that I think of it, if he said "Killed her dog, you know who" instead of "Killed his dog" then the section where he explains about John's wife would be surreal.
I like the fact that john was willing to stay on the phone that long. I feel like if viggo worded himself better, wick couldve resolved this with less blood overall. Even let the kid live with a personally administered major attitude adjustment.
Remember when I first heard that, "oh." Having seen my fair share of action movies, I was fully expecting Viggo to go after John, assuming his money and numbers would win the day.
Needless to say, I was wrong. Wonderfully so.

They had around 14 million dollars for the budget of John Wick. After its huge success, they had 40 million dollars for the budget of John Wick 2.
Also, Keanu Reeves was not the first choice to play John Wick. The studio had in mind to hire an older actor like Clint Eastwood or Harrison Ford but they were busy with other projects so they both turned it down. Good thing Keanu was available.

John Wick is like a retired Frank Castle aka The Punisher who wipe out all the gangs and mafia that stood in his path, so all the new gangs/mob/mafia stay away or try to avoid getting his attention, Viggo son attract his attention and now the Punisher is coming over to them. Imagine the fear they are feeling right then and there.
I highly recommend for any John Wick fans if you want to see how the continental hotel and the whole hitman industry started in the series and a lot more lore watch the TV series the Continental. It gives a lot of great backstory although sad doesn’t contain as it was before his time. It does contain his friend Jonathan when he was young.
