The most important part of my morning routine is definitely ignoring my phone for the first hour, splashing my face with cold water, doing 10-15 minutes of yoga and then relaxing for 45 minutes with a mug of green tea before getting dressed and going to work. I know there are a million other things I could be doing, cleaning, working out, emails, etc. but I work between 9-10 hours every day, and I just find that having this bit of time to myself, to watch UA-cam and chill out a bit, is better for me than anything else I can do.
I have trouble sleeping when I'm anxious about something, so I started making a list of things that are weighing on my mind about an hour before bed. Once I'm in bed, I "tell" myself what time it is and what time I will wake up, and then I give myself a little mantra, like "sleep washes over me" and I focus on how good it feels to be in bed. I start to feel content, and that's when I drift off. :)
Hello Jenny, about the sleep thing this is something that works for me and you can try it out, I drink chamomile tea 1 hr before bed and meditate for about 10 to 20 mins and fall asleep to the meditation. Chamomile is also really helpful in reducing stress and anxiety, I go by it as someone who has been diagnosed with anxiety, it really does help with sleep. This other thing I do is something my therapist recommended me, if you can’t fall asleep or have woken up extra early just stay up. Don’t fall asleep the whole day at all and then at night when you feel the time is right, get in bed your fall asleep immediately and you’re likely to have a complete 7hrs of sleep.
Slow unfolding mornings are such a gift to ourselves. I love my morning routine and it’s so worth waking up early to savour every moment with a pot of tea, my planner, reading and a tidbit to eat. Love your home and your joy.
As a person who had and still has some problems with sleeping, I must say going to sleep around 9:30 is a must. I wake up around 5 o'clock so maybe that's why. 11 p.m. sounds too late for me 😊
I like slow mornings and the most important part of a slow morning is drinking my coffee slow, looking out through the window and just feeling happy and thankful for what I have 😊
I must admit, I am now brewing a pot of green tea for a "slosh of antioxidants", as you put it. Sounds so wonderful, and I don't know why I ever stopped getting into the habit of brewing a full pot of tea for myself (instead saving for company). Thanks for the lovely idea and have a great day at your new home.
My perfect morning is waking up well rested, seeing that the sun is shining, making myself a cup of coffee and drinking it in the sunshine outside. OR, immediately going into the garden and getting my hands dirty! Nothing like the feeling of nature and sunshine in the early hours.
Love it, love it! Morning routines are so uplifting, aren‘t they? My mornings are when I do my yoga, and yoga is the biggest miracle of my life. I do a rather long routine that completely changes my day for the better, and challenges me, and expands me in all ways. I eat my breakfast first, as I need fuel and vegan protein in order to exercise! I am eager to see more of your wonderful apartment!
Get a „light alarm“ clock. You can have it on sleep mode in the evening, it gets slowly darker and darker, and in the morning the light gets brighter and brighter and sound might also be added No more abrupt awakenings ❤
I've been using a Sleep Cycle app that wakes me up with soft music that gets slowly louder, and it does that within a half hour window when my sleep cycle is at a good point within that half hour. I like the idea of waking up as the room gets bright so I might try to figure out how to add that to my routine too. I wonder if I can use both alarms effectively?
Oh, these are the types of videos that I love the most. About YOU, your personality, your life - so interesting and inspiring!! 😍 I'm study/work type 2 too, my own calm, cosy space, everything looking the way I want and without anyone else disturbing. 😂 Except for my dog who usually sits right next to me. ♥ The floors in your new home look so beautiful, by the way! 🤩
So nice to see you in your dream space that you would have shocked yourself over in your teenage years. I appreciate how you expanded out your view in your lovely studio by putting the desk at a corner… So smart and so pleasing esthetically. I would love to know where those lovely white textured sheets came from as we are going to be in London in a couple weeks and I will be doing a wee bit of shopping.🫶🏻
1) YES to decision fatigue. I study product design. All of which is decision making. I am known for being awful at making decisions because I am so tired of making them all the time for design. And 2) cold pan fried tofu. Absolutely yes. It’s so good
Congrats for your new home 🎉 I can’t wait to see more of it 😄 my morning routine is simple, first I rince my mouth with clear water and drink a glass of water ( it make me feel fresh) then skincare routine, brushing my hair. After that I prep everything for my coffee to brew while I do some stretching and that the secret to keep stretching every day is that a the end of it I have a mug of coffee to reward myself ☕️😊. Then I dress up for the day and only after all of this I look at my phone 📱. This is what works for me 🤗 and yes please do a follow up 🙌🏻 I love discovering what others do to have ideas on improving my routine 🤍
I started waking up at 3am every morning too and I figured out that it happened EVERY time I drank alcohol in the evening before bed. Even just one glass of wine. Since cutting out alcohol I now sleep through the night again. This only started happening to me in my early 30s.
On slow mornings I make big batch of miso savoury porridge topped with some sliced avocado, radish sprouts and ground, toasted sesame seeds with a v60 pour over coffee. Its really important for me to really focus, slow down and enjoy each simple task.
As a person that clings to routine and simplicity, it's great to be reminded that sometimes chaos and disorder represent growth and progress. It can be so stressful to "get off track" but lot of times its necessary in order to move to the next level. congratulations on your beautiful flat and new novel :) Will definitely be purchasing! and always, thats for the inspiration! xo from NYC
If I wake up around 3 am, I would turn comfortably on my back and start slowly breathing concentrating on my heart area and bringing the sense of "ease" to my heart with each out-breath. I would do it until I really feel a pleasant sense of ease in my chest. It helps to calm a racing brain and fall asleep. It is a technique I learned in a heart coherence course.
Love this video! It really comes through that you're craving more calm, and the cinematography echoes that. I hope you find that balance again when you're settled 😊 and congrats on the house! It looks so beautiful 😍 I'm a mix of the 2 types of worker - it depends which tasks I'm doing. If I need to collaborate and get things done with teammates, I'm much better in an office, but for creative, independent work, give me a cosy nook with ambient lighting, essential oil burning and soft music. Ideally when it's raining!
So happy it’s coming together for you guys! Your flat is a lovely gem for sure, and seeing you push fwd and still giving us smiles and inspo helps me want to push fwd too. Thank you ❤ looking fwd to your next vid Jenny
Jenny, do some research regarding Earthing and/or Grounding. This is a process of reconnecting with Mother Earth through negative grounding. It really works!! Not only does it help improve the quality of sleep but it helps the body heal in MANY ways. I had a terrible ankle injury for over two years. It’s gone after grounding for about 4 weeks. Please look into it. You won’t go back to the conventional way of “living”. Wishing you the very best always. The best is yet to come.
If I wake up in the middle of the night or have trouble falling asleep bc of my brain going a thousand miles/hour I usually listen to the podcast "Somna med Henrik" ("Fall asleep with Henrik"). It's in Swedish and the guy, Henrik, is just talking for maybe 1h in a very calm voice about random things or improvising stories that is interesting enough for your brain to follow but not too engaging. Helps me when I can't get my brain to slow down by myself.
So happy for you guys! I love this kind of videos with calm voice-over, aesthetic shots and the whole relaxing routine vibe. Would love to see more videos about your everyday life and things that inspire you ❤ And of course can't wait to hear more about that flat of yours!
I've been having sleep issues since 2020, I guess due to anxiety... magnesium has been really useful, I feel calm, and my sleep is deep, restoring, and more regular. Check this with your doctor
The only problem I have with megnesiym is that I dream so vividly and I especially have nightmares when I take it. So yeah, I do get the sleep but it's def not peaceful lol.😅
@Emily Dickmesome I used to have those nightmares, and the magnesium took them away... just the contrary to what you tell me! I guess we have different reactions to it.
@@SoWhosGae I definitely have vivid dreams after taking magnesium in the evening but it helps to sleep better, so it is like watching a movie while sleeping :D
Oh definitely!! I’m a couch worker- never knew it until lock down. When I first came home to work I set up an office. Eventually landed on the pillows. Best work ever. Lol.
Jenny, thank you for your videos! I also loved your video about your book )) Would be wonderful if you make another one as follow up about the process of getting it published, I am sure it is equally interesting as the one about writing it. What an accomplishment! Congratulations ))
I have a toddler so I'm in a frazzled season of life but have been experimenting with getting back into a morning routine for both our sakes. I'm also one to make the bed every day and get up early, although for me my natural wake-up time is 5:30am. I have a history of poor sleep (much better actually since having a baby tbh!), and what I've learnt is it's probably best to just get up and do something relaxed, but that doesn't involve a screen. Read an interesting-enough book (not a page-turner but just below that in interest level), do a crossword puzzle, or I probably wouldn't be opposed even to baking if I was feeling wide awake. Just take the focus off sleep for a while and let it come later. Also spend as much time outside and moving during the day as possible.
Office vs cozy: For me it depends on the type of work. When I'm planning, doing reports, or filling out spreadsheets, I prefer an office environment. I seem to get less distracted and work faster. When I'm doing creative work I like music, a warm drink and colorful pens and paper. It seems easier to come up with new ideas in such an environment.
I just love Jenny; I've watched her for some time now but only recently subscribed. I learned about Jenny through Pick Up Limes. Can't wait to see the finishing results of the flat. Eventually, I'd love to see more of your healthy eating habits. I will be ordering your new book. Also, I really enjoy that the followers leave nice and positive comments on the channel. Take care!
Office person 🤚🏻 I need to glue myself to the desk in order to start. Also, analog systems have its charm indeed:,watches, alarm clocks, journals.. 👌🏻 and I think they subconciously make you slow down, which is a good idea sometimes.
For me, the most interesting is how you're dealing with the English culture as a Swedish person. I've noticed that Swidish are very adoptable (not only with the language).
I love the shirt you are wearing in this video and I know you have a white shirt of it too. Can someone tell me where it's from ? it's so effortless and chic at the same time! love it!
Jenny ♡ sleeping issues is so hard. I've had both severe insomnia and now "lighter" sleeping issues. What has worked for me during those 3am mornings is putting on a podcast with calm vouces on the lowest volume so that I barely hear what they're saying. It relaxes me at least. Ashwaganda + magnesium supplements and chamomile tea is my go for life now in the evenings. Makes me sleep so much better, even during stressful periods ♡ I also recommend the brilliant and hillarious book "The sleep solution" - I didn't know that it was a funny book when I purchased it, but gosh how much I laughed! It has lots of good tips as well, so it is a serious book in that regard 🥹 happy sleeping!
congratulations on your new flat; and best of luck on your novel, loved the video; very nice and calm; having trouble sleeping at the mo but got an op planned 11 may so thats probably whyx
I just thought yesterday that I have to organize my daily wearing uniform down to only five pieces! Then going out in clothes that I don't even look at unless I'm going out. So simple. Please make a video on how you found your bespoke routine!
I haven't seen anyone commenting this, but if you drink more coffee than you did before, even if it is only in the morning, it can affect your sleep at night. I learned this though Matthew Walkers book Why we sleep and since then I am much more aware and I even switched to decaf, just for the taste, or otherwise max one cup and no espresso. Maybe this helps.
If I notice i will get a restless sleep, I always put on some relaxing chill music, this helps me really well to fall asleep and stay asleep. Interesting morning routine, might add somethings to mine :D
I don't have any trouble sleeping but I do have a serious beef with alarm clocks. I hate them with a vengeance. So I only use those alarm sounds that sound like a natural part of the morning - birds chirping, water flowing, rain falling. They still wake me up like a charm but it's not a heart attack inducing wake up call. Recommend!
Oh, I missed this kind of videos Jenny! Love the split shots, fresh titles and less stationary format, exploring the new flat. Excited to see the latest life developments for you two after so many years 🤍
I truly enjoyed this video I love your aesthetic simply but stylish always fresh looking. Pls tell me what brand are your reading glasses. minimal is what I want. 🌷 Thanks from California
I definitely make my bed every day but I tend to leave it to air out while I get ready and dressed. I will then throw the duvet over as I am leaving the house. I feel like there is sweat and heat in there so I don't want the dampness to be covered and baked! Need help getting out of bed and not touch my phone though...
While it is not accessible to many, sleeping in two chunks is actually very common. Before the industrial revolution, it was very normal to have a first chunk of sleep, then wake up in the middle of the night, work or do whatever you want for a few hours, and then have a second chunk of sleep. It is very ok to not have a full night of sleep, and if you have some schedule flexibility, it might be an option to look into sleeping in several chunks - if that is something you are interested in.
I find that if I fall asleep by 10 at the latest, I am up by 5:30 or 6 AM, but it also is a very long habit of mine. I sleep really well but don't know if there is anything special I do. I make my bed right away always. That is great that you make matcha every morning (or I guess coffee. . .but coffee is a drug ;) hehe). I'm a cocoa girl, personally. Mmm tofu for breakfast is something I never have done. I only have it for dinner! Looks good how you make it. Your study is looking lovely so far. I like your handwriting by the way. It is nice! I don't think I am either a desk or cozy worker. . I have done both and both work for me! Sometimes I like to just have windows open or the curtains open and feel the sun on my bed (with my bed made and me sitting on top) to do things too. Other times I like being at my desk. I have never had porridge!
Jennym, thank you for the new video! It's really inspiring! :) I think I belong to the middle category - a coffee-shop person. I'm not exactly an office worker, but working from home is a bit too relaxing for me. I love working in different coffee shops during the first part of the day and then heading home for the second part.
Cozy Yes! Can you hire someone for a moment to just assist in some of the tasks you can delegate to other more immediate and important ones?OH! Can't wait to read your book.
Also tipping my hat to Nordic bedding habits… I used to have 10 billion things on my bed. Now it’s just pillows, a fitted sheet and duvet covered comforter. Takes me all of 45 seconds to remake the bed.😅
For wide awake 3am nights- there is this tea- Bigelow Lavender and Chamomile with Probiotics. No similar tea works like this one. I have no idea why. I hope there’s nothing bad in it. Best of luck. Not sure Bigelow is a thing in England either…
Hi Jenny!! I’m a new subscriber and I absolutely love your channel 😍 On the work in an office vs work from home note, I’m definitely ADHD, so focusing in general is hard for me. I feel that being in a nice office with sunlight helps so much, because my apartment is tiny and like a dark box, and the people surrounding me at my office are focused, so that motivates me to focus!! But I think if I lived in a gorgeous place like yours, I would thrive working from home!!! Less distractions of people moving around, noises etc!! Side note: can you do a purse/bag video?! I love your purses too and would love to know where you got them!! ❤ Hugs from NYC!
I have had insomnia for a few months and what helped was melatonin in flash sprays. They help me fall asleep very quickly and maybe it's a placebo effect but whenever I wake up in the middle of the night, i spray it a couple of times under my tongue and bam... Sleep again
I had trouble sleeping during my period of anorexia and binge eating, I used to wake up hungry cause I didn't eat in a healthy way during the day. Now I need to go to bed around 11pm without staying on the phone or computer, and wake up around 7,00 am.
The secret to better sleep is to not know what time it in when you wake in the middle of the night. Nothing to judge. Do not have a clock visible to you in your room. It is normal to wake up during the night but it’s important to not judge your sleep time. Simply close your eyes and rest and allow your body to float back to sleep without any judgment.
It’s like a little bit weird looking at kimono gown right side drape comes over the other. Because we automatically wear it with right side under the left. Right one's for when we bury people. Comment from Japan, but it’s not kimono exactly so whatever you want. Anyway, I LOVE your videos since many years ago.
I love Mondays - getting administrative details taken care of & planning for the week! I've turned into a morning person since becoming a stepparent, and on the mornings when the kids aren't here, I wake up early, catch up on UA-cam videos (such as yours!) with a coffee, and often stretch a bit before showering. I work from home most days, and ensuring a regular ergonomic set up is so important for the body! Looking forward to seeing another video on your routine as you settle into the space - congrats on your return 🌷

the aesthetics of this video is just lush! thanks you Jenny for bringing these soft and chill vibes

I would also recommend TRE (trauma and tension relief exercise) for sleeping problems. I’ve only started but I have already noticed a change.

Your handwriting is sooo pretty! I love it
I haven't seen anyone commenting this, but if you drink more coffee than you did before, even if it is only in the morning, it can affect your sleep at night. I learned this though Matthew Walkers book Why we sleep and since then I am much more aware and I even switched to decaf, just for the taste, or otherwise max one cup and no espresso. Maybe this helps.
Doggies, coffee, Waking Up meditation and workouts…best of luck with your sleep; I’m in a phase like that too ❤
If I notice i will get a restless sleep, I always put on some relaxing chill music, this helps me really well to fall asleep and stay asleep.
Interesting morning routine, might add somethings to mine :D
Those floorboards 😍😍😍
havent been here for a while - so happy you have your own gorgeous place!!
Thank you for the perfect bit of inspiration! I would love a follow-up. 🌼
Haha 😊 I know my "David" is out there. I am so glad you found yours!!
Recommend!
Also, I too am a sucker for leftover fried tofu, especially marinated. So good.
Live feed ensues: investing in a David is not too abstract if you've seen the 2001 "AI Artificial Intelligence" movie (recommend as well)
Oh, I missed this kind of videos Jenny! Love the split shots, fresh titles and less stationary format, exploring the new flat. Excited to see the latest life developments for you two after so many years 🤍
Where is the black loungewear from? It’s gorgeous.
Congratulation on your debut book Jenny🎉😊
I truly enjoyed this video I love your aesthetic simply but stylish always fresh looking. Pls tell me what brand are your reading glasses. minimal is what I want. 🌷
Thanks from California
I still use your granola recipes from way back when. Using dates as the binder is so yummy!
Your home is so beautiful. Where are the bedsheets from?
So true about the work environment - I personally work best in an informal setting, but have to be in the office most days for my job. 😅
What kind of pencil are you writing with? I love pens and pencils!
Will your book be available in the US at all?
I mean, anywhere besides Amazon
Love this video- and def do a follow up! ❤
Sleep again
Where is that bedding from? It's such a lovely texture!
dunelm !!
Lovely inspiring video❤
I love cold fried tofu for breakfast!!! With avocado and mustard yum.
Thanks Jenny Mustard!
Lyssna på Ayurvedapodden, senaste avsnittet om sömn! Sov så gott! ❤
This is really the best advice
omg what do you wear when going to sleep? I love it! minute 1:56
btw are the lilies you used to have in the living room real? i have a cat so i cant have real ones but i loooove your aparment
yes real! and thaaaank you ❤️❤️
Is there a link to that gorgeous dressing gown please?
Investing in a David is obviously the best thing I’ve heard this week 😂😂😂 and congratulations on your new home ❤
Decision fatigue yes .. 😒 very often
"Invest in a David" :D mmd. I got one, though their name is not David, they also take care of my food (especially in the morning). Highly recommend!
Eating kiwi and/or pistachios for bedtime snacks is proven to help you sleep
Where can I get a David please? 😁🎉
Please bring back the podcast
I love Mondays - getting administrative details taken care of & planning for the week! I've turned into a morning person since becoming a stepparent, and on the mornings when the kids aren't here, I wake up early, catch up on UA-cam videos (such as yours!) with a coffee, and often stretch a bit before showering. I work from home most days, and ensuring a regular ergonomic set up is so important for the body! Looking forward to seeing another video on your routine as you settle into the space - congrats on your return 🌷
Love this
Second category, OF COURSE
Jenny, follow-up, PLEASE🙏
Check out Andrew Hubermann podcast on sleep and how to reset your circadian rhythm
I enjoy your videos.
You are waking in the early hours to give love and thanks to That Which Is
