Our Journey! How did we get here?
In the winter of 2019 we moved in to our self built van full time to begin living, working and travelling Canada. We quickly fell in love with chasing our dreams of adventuring off the beaten path, living off grid and being self sustaining. We drove our van thousands of miles through various countries-Canada, USA, Mexico & Guatemala. All of which we documented here on our channel, be sure to check that out! After many years on the open road we found ourselves 15 acres of remote woods on the East Coast of Canada where we are building a homestead and renovating our fully off the grid cabin. We are diving into this chapter of our lives in no experience, we're so happy we can bring you all along as we learn to do it all with our own two hands. Thank you for being here with us for cabin life, van life and all the in between!

We want nothing but the best for both of you, so please get medical help and follow it through. We love you both, and want to see you succeed, and we have time to wait and enjoy your journey.

I literally relate to every single one of your episodes. I had a back injury after a MVA and it was crazy how it not only affected me physically but mentally too. I remember the frustration and disappointments, when I'd feel like I was starting to heal only to make a weird movement and feel like I was back at square one. I tried everything, including acupuncture even though I'm super scared of needles - I was that desperate for relief. The amount of times I'd say the exact same line as you Crystal "I'm 28 my body shouldn't feel broken". I've been better for a little while now, it took a long time for me and there were moments where I lost faith but it's so important to trust your body and listen to it. I know it's not easy, I've been where you are and I can tell you it will get better! 💓

When you get tired to the point of wanting to quit, but you don’t, that is admirable. It reflects on your character. Something I totally admire about the two of you is your positive, determined attitude. You never have fits of temper and coarse language, no blaming, no criticizing, just regroup and press on. Oh ladies, I feel your pain. I have had so many work injuries in my life. I’m currently 63 and work outside doing very physically strenuous projects with two severely torn rotator cuffs and torn cartilage in both knees. The muscle pain throughout my body from it’s trying to compensate for the injuries is almost as daunting as the injuries themselves. I’ve also lived and worked alone for twenty years as of 6/1/2023. Consequently, I feel like I can relate to both of your current individual struggles. Yet, after watching you two overcome, conquer, and move forward with grace, strength, grit, and determination for the last three years or so, I feel confident you both could give me better advice than I could give you. Hang in there! Continue taking care of yourselves and each other, mind, body, and spirit. After all, I seem to recall two very smart young women reminding us to take good care of our equipment a time or two. Of all the equipment you all have, you are the most important. Everything suffers if the equipment that plans and runs all other equipment isn’t cherished and protected.
Feel better! I for one, will be thinking about you, and hoping for the best for you.

you two have so much to be proud of. i'm 63 and from a family of contractors [not me ran first chance i got]. you're doing work that i'm used to seeing a crew and several different sub-contractors do and i can't imagine doing on my own.
i picked up several skills and it kills me to have to hire someone to do the work i used to do but wrecked my back and knees and right foot over the years [not gonna list other physical ailments]. so i understand crystal's frustration at not being able to help you jazmyn and i admire you working thru to help get things done that pleases the woman you love.

Sending lots of healing vibes. I have been disabled for quite some time. The biggest lesson I have learned is not to push too hard when I feel good. So many things pile up and on the days when I am not well, all I want to do is move. So then when I have a good day, I pile it on and go and go because it feels so good to be able to do it. Then my body screams at me that because I was an idiot, I have to spend days in bed not able to do anything. It is all a balance and learning how to find that balance is difficult. The physical limitations can really test your emotional state, but there is a lesson in there if you allow yourself some grace.

I have so much sympathy for Crystal. I’m going thru similar w/my back and, it’s a very -powerless, out of control and, trapped feeling. Wasn’t safe to even drive for a while; right leg would collapse with no warning, randomly. Couldn’t walk up a step, was falling, and...the PAIN!! For me, because pain was on my right-side, and I kept pushing when I should not have, I ALSO screwed up my left lower-back, because was using & abusing left-side to compensate for weakness and pain on my “right-side”. Am hoping the Physio T. WARNED about this.
Honor your body. At times like this, we realize, having “healthy, balanced bodies”, means everything!! And, some of us need , “pain” to remind us we’re only, human. Health means A LOT!!
FEEL BETTER, CRYSTAL . When I was a child, my aunt, Antoinette always had these little , “sayings”. One was: “ Our Body IS OURr TEMPLE”. She exercised every-day, calisthenics! ...was in better shape than me. She was a tiny little bird, beautiful, but had large hands & feet (size 9 or10!), despite being, 5ft.2” and very petite. She was a “power-house”. Strong mind, strong body, strong “convictions”! I miss her, she was a mother to me, and later on, to my children. She’d lay down her life for them. Came everyday, travelled an hour each way from her home to mine ( via, a very fast paced walk & the bus - no car), to meet my kids at their school and watch them at my house, until I got home from work. She devoted her life to taking care of all of us, when we were children. She worked in a factory for almost 60 years, never married, was completely independent, and gave all she had, in: Time, Attention, Love, Energy & Care to my children and to me, when I was a child.
P.S. She (just like Jazzy!!) was neurotic about brushing her teeth😁, which she kept in mint-condition, until the day she died. Heart failure, late 80’s. We were all shocked and devastated. I’ll be praying for Crystal’s FULL RECOVERY ... in time! Nice look with the “ceiling goop”, EVERYWHERE, 😂🤣🤪 Jaz!!!
    Thank you, Gals 🙏💪⚖️🥰☝️❤️🕊🌷🌤☀️🌻🤝🌺🤗🌟⚡️✨💫

I have to say that the first thing I do when my back starts to play up is hit the hot tub. Seriously, the warmth really relaxes the muscles in my back and make things much easier. You have a sauna as well. Check with your practitioner, you may find that using these will aid your recovers. As others have said, recovery is much longer the more you try to do when still not fully fit.
Take it easy. Much easier than you have been. Plan for a minimum of 4 weeks very light work and exercise before slowly ramping up your effort.
As always, check with your practitioner and follow the instructions to the letter.
Don't do what I did. I didn't follow the advice and now, 20 years on, I still have problems.
    Get well soon.

Continued prayers and love for you all!! Thank you for sharing!! Remember to take care of yourselves!❤😊

Pronounced "Punkin" gets my vote. I feel ya on the back pain Ive been dealing with an upper rib injury from gardening. So hard to rest when you see the weeds taking over. Trust me when I say REST! Was starting to feel better, spent 1 hr pulling weeds, now back to square 1. Truly frustrating. Ceiling looks amazing!!

Gosh, I feel ya sister! I’m 33 and recently started having lower back pain. I’ve been more conscience with how I pick up heavy things, and trying to get more frequent massages and applying heat/ice does wonders!

  • @texasjustice1861
    @texasjustice1861 11 місяців тому

Crystal, just take it slow and easy. Rest up as much as possible. If possible, see a chiropractor to help AND get a massage.
If all these continue then get a MRI of the area that’s the issue. This way they can rule out a herniated disc or a fracture.
I only suggest this because I currently suffer from 6 herniated disc, mild separation in my spinal cord near my cervical , a replaced disc with titanium screw. To top it off.... my spine is deteriorating. Then not to mention the amount of arthritis I have in my hips, lower back.
I understand the discomfort and the desire to get up and go do.....
I am thankful that I am muscling myself up every day to go to work, but no mistakes it kicks my back side when I get home.
Jazzy.....great job on getting the ceiling done. Keep it up. Don’t be so rough on yourself.... you’re holding up the fort for two right .
    Great job ladies!

Crystal, I feel for you. I have had severe osteoarthritis and degeneration since I was a child. I was told by specialists that I would likely end up in a wheelchair by age 30. I'm now 50 and not in a wheelchair....yet. I also get herniated discs, sciatica, been unable to walk at times, and sometimes lose control of my bowel and bladder because of it all. I have suffered significant pain most of my life but still managed to push myself to play netball, compete in athletics, move furniture multiple times, renovate, etc. Sometimes doing simple things has been incredibly painful and difficult but I still did it. Sometimes though I haven't been able to. I really do hope your back gets better. Try all and everything and stay as natural as you possibly can. If possible, strengthen the muscles in your back, get in the water and exercise as it's great for taking the weight off the problem area, lots of good stretches. I also find that if I shut my mind off and stretch, then you can often find your own stretches intuitively to help. Also remember to look into certain vitamins, minerals, etc, TENS machine (or other apparatus), dry needling, massage, and that the pain might also be coming from another area. Get counselling if you need to because it can also affect you mentally.
Jaz, I was really feeling for you too. The tiredness I could see in you, the almost deflated look. The phenomenal task of that celiing and trying to do the right thing by Crystal, by your channel and viewers. Take a rest sweetie. You are important too. Much love and healing to you both 🧡🧡

As another fan with 43 years of back and connective tissue issues (since I was 25), I've learned (and RElearned) the value of listening when my body says "Stop!" PLEASE... both of you take at the very least 48 hours to do nothing more strenuous than preparing delicious, anti-inflammatory foods. I'm not a doctor, but it sounds to me like you both have a lot of inflammation going on and that takes time to heal. During the first few days while inflammation is high, ICE is essential. Also, Yoga has been my best friend/lifeline on my journey to stay active and able approaching my 70's, along with a healthy lifestyle like you two exemplify! Please remember that taking time off to nurture your bodies now results in projects getting done much sooner than getting sidelined with injuries :-) Love you both!

As an elderly man i wake up every day of my life with back pain and stiffness. Please take care of your bodies. You two both have such sweet spirits and your body is the housing. This is my last day of my vacation and I could not go far from my apartment due to my back pain. I took a walk the first day off, by the lake and I didnt know if I could even get home. On my vacations I go mototcycle camping. There was no way I felt comfortable going far away, nog knowing if I could physically handle it. Ip until now I was down on myself thinking it was because of my age. By the end of my vacation I was able to start moving again. Work is taking its tole on me. Inremembered I had a TENS unit and it does help me a lot. I am going for another walk by the lake this evening and try to enjoy the outdoors I miss so much. It has been a lonely vacation not getting out there and doing what I love doing. I know how you feel, be grateful for the support you have, try the TENS, it helps me....although it is not a companion...lol

Crystal, you’re speaking to the choir here. Back pain since I was 14. 20 years before I had surgery with tons of PT and stretching in between. 30 years later I still have pain but my main go to is Ibuprofen to alleviate it. Best advice I can give is listen to your back. Back off when necessary and I cannot express this enough, stay hydrated as it helps to keep your muscles fluid.

I think something that doesn't get mentioned enough is the grief that accompanies injuries. Grieving the loss of mobility that you had, the projects that cannot be done, the loss of ease to do tasks, and the summer you had planned. When injuries are acute it's the time to give ourselves the most grace, but also the hardest.
I'm a sports RMT and athlete, and had a disastrous back injury 6 years ago. I also work with back injuries a lot. It took me personally three years of dedicated back rehab to get back to being able to do everything. They were tough years.
Sending you guys lots of love as you adjust your summer to incorporate back rehab. ♥️♥️♥️

Hi! So sorry to hear about your back pain/ injury.
Crazy thing, you guys popped into my mind this week , and it was to tell you to be careful with your bodies. You are so young, and you are hard working. So use whatever tools/ tractors/ equipment you need to do the heavy things, in all your building/ projects.
You will be grateful when you’re older.
As a hard worker all my life , a back injury several years ago, it is harder when you are older! I sure feel it. So take time to heal and be good to yourselves. I’m glad your Dr is helping Crystal!

Back pain is the absolute worst, Crystal. I’m 37 and have had pain I can trace back to a bungy jump 20 years ago! I’ve tried chiropractors, physio’s and osteopaths - osteo’s are the best for me but I know everyone is different. It definitely gets worse for me after periods of inactivity (which I don’t think is a problem you will have somehow haha). Keeping moving, heat packs and shakti mats work well for me. Wishing you all the best!
