I started playing this opening drum riff at practice while setting up the other day and my guitar player Matt knew exactly what it was immediately and chimed in and we kept it going until we both forgot what was next, lol. Gotta love those moments.
This was the heaviest song I have ever heard in my life. I actually had to pause halfway through, take a breather, then continue again. My mind was already blown about 1/4 of the way through. This is gonna take some time to process the sheer complexity and pure constant brutal riffs of the song. Simply amazing.

Gaouchos35 Yea he wasn't really ever into Pink Floyd tho... and, of course, you got 2112, but it was divided into movements, so it wasn't really ONE continuous song, but more of a concept-album-type thing
that's actually not a drum machine. The only drums Meshuggah ever programmed were on Catch 33. Everything else is actually played by Tomas Haake. He just uses triggers, that's why it sounds like a drum machine
How many cuts and pastes in any given Meshuggah or say Necrophagist track though? It's not at like they can do all of this in one shot, or on a first take. Nobody can. It's sort of not real, but also real.
@@Astromyxin I've seen them live a few times and I have no doubt Thomas could play this in one take. Would the one take be perfect enough for recording purposes, probably not. But I really don't think it matters. All metal bands (or virtually all) are cutting in and redoing sections of the song. The mistakes made probably wouldn't be noticed by 99.9% of listeners, but you want it to be as close to perfect as possible.
