Insane. So advanced. Not just "different". They have created their own environment. That's very, very rare. And by their own environment, I don't mean "djent". Meshuggah is Meshuggah. Period.Peace.

The timing, the tripped out, almost mechanical sound of dissonance. Messuggah is definetly the original. They have been around since 91... long before djent. I think Messuggah started it. I think they do it best. It's their baby... I'm not hateing, I like em both. Just timeline'ing to provide context, to support my opinion. 🤘

6:19 is just all-time. The fact that the riff is just one pitch, in unison, with its bludgeoning on/off simplicity, drenched in so much rhythmic dissonance that it's basically untranscribable. I can't believe I'm alive on Earth at the same time as Meshuggah.

Meshuggah drummer Tomas Haake said of the EP, "That whole track was
written and recorded just on random. Me and Fredrik would just jam on
something, and when we found something that was kind of cool, he would
walk into the control room. I would just record drums and it wasn't a
set pattern, I would just kind of stray away from the pattern, but just
keep going in that vibe. Then we had to chart everything and go bar by
bar to record the guitars afterwards, because it's all just random."

At first, my buddy looked confused, but interested. Well, about 10 minutes or so into this, he had a full blown panic attack! Felt kind of bad, but couldn't help myself laughing to myself..

This world was not ready for this ep when it came out. Even today the world is not ready. Even meshuggah cannot play this track live, but who the fuck could play this song without mistakes? Meshuggah have managed to play In Death Is Life live in it's entirety, which comes close to this masterpeice. So they are still undisputed kings of the genre they created. Shame their latest records don't quite hit this mark, but meshuggah are only humans, and like myself, they are only human, But they created something unworldly on this EP. I am forever in their debt.
