    4:25 regarding F-14 TCS, what is missing is forced illumination of a target visible and tracked by TCS, but not visible on radar. Basically anti-notching measure, even if radar loses track but target remains visible by TCS, it should be able to keep it illuminated by radar to guide the SARH.

    As someone who enjoys flying sim with the F-8E, the IRST is definitely very useful as I don't use the 9Cs in sim, and having a way to spot targets in other ways than eyeball mk.1 without giving radar pings is very useful

    4:46 "I'm not sure why you would want to lock this way"
    It provides the canon lead indicator without providing the enemy with an RWR warning, and it can't be notched or flared which is very useful in a dogfight. It also tracks the target automatically without you having to manually which is especially useful in sim because the enemy gets marked on your HUD

    Having constant elevation makes it simple, but it somewhat limits you since without it, you can look at the sky while keeping your nose down, helps with spotting targets and phoenix missiles, you yeet your radar up, look for them, then point the nose up for extra range then go cranking
    But it is a bit wacky, but can work well at longer ranges

    • @sherlocksinha2435
      @sherlocksinha2435 10 місяців тому

      Helps when you're the one lobbing pheonix missiles as you can climb at an optional angle and using the elevation keys look for targets higher up without having to change nose angle . One the pheonix missiles have been fired switch back to constant elevation again

    • @aleksanderf4672
      @aleksanderf4672 10 місяців тому +1

      Personally I wish that there would be an option to keep the elevation you set as with the 'constant elevation' setting off radar is stabilized, which messes up the radar elevation when you make vertical maneuvers.
      (Basically I want the constant elevation with ability to set radar elevation manually instead of current stabilized mode)

    • @collander7766
      @collander7766 10 місяців тому +1

      @@aleksanderf4672 this^^ That's how it would be IRL too, you'd be able to switch between a radar that's stabilized to the horizon or a radar that's stabilized to your jet. Either/or just isn't good enough imo

    I've been using manual cursor control for the longest time, I find it much more convenient to use, expecially with TWS and I'm always able to lock the exact target I want expecially when theres a lot of trash (such as AI) around. Generally I just find it faster and more precise. Give it a second try, with some practice it's amazing. I don't use manual tilt too much but it has practical application in being able to spot targets above you while staying level, so you can lock targets without climbing to contrail altitude

      @m1sz3lpl24 10 місяців тому +3

      @@jaek_898 That would be nice, although I think I would still stick to manual, too many times I had to fumble with radar once it decided to select wrong target initially in cycle mode not to mention habit, been using manual for over a year now lol and it is how it works in DCS too, more or less

    some of these are really why WT should go the more simplified controls. A lot of fine tune stuff can work in full sims like DCS but really has no place in more action oriented arcady game that plays around with simulation for extra detail but should really avoid it in the controls department .

      Doesn't need to be co-op; I wish that backseat AI crew had functions in more advanced aircraft. Things like TV guided missiles should be able to track targets using the skills of your crew, rather than being forced to do it manually while also flying the plane. Same with regaining radar locks or even spotting enemy aircraft in sim.

  • @krin9437

    On the manual cursor control: I like to have this enabled, and here’s why. As you move up in jets and get more sophisticated radars that can see many targets at once from far away, having to cycle through every one just to get to the target you want can be a pain, let alone the risk of accidentally cycling over it and having to cycle all the way through the other targets again. As for the point on locking targets closer to the mothership, my recommendation is to bind the control “Radar/IRST beyond/within visual range combat.” This enables ACM mode, so within a certain range, all you have to do is point your plane at the enemy and it locks them, no controlling of the actual radar required.

    Its kinda sad they ruined the radar-assisted gyrogunsights.
    They were inaccurate and underleads the target even with lock since release up until "Apex Predators" where they fixed it and tested the 3rd person Gyrogunsight concept, those were golden times for sim players since the sight actually lead the target correctly. That didn't last long though, when "Sky Guardians" dropped and True lead calculating gunsights were added to modern aircrafts, the changes to the gyrogunsights got reversed back to a broken state
    Many of you probably didn't notice a thing since people plays RB in third person and didn't care about the gyros at all
