The easiest way i have found for repotting is to place soil in bottom of larger pot, then place empty pot the same size as pot that plant is growing in. Then fill with soil and carefully remove the empty pot leaving a hole which is then the size of plant roots. Place in hole and add soil around as needed. Hope that's helpful

When you slid into frame in that butcher apron... my heart skipped a beat! *swoon Great video as always. Very informative and easy to follow. Thanks for posting.
There's a very surprising and funny story of why I have this plant.. a couple of pigeons visit my balcony garden for water and twigs everyday, but make their nest right above my window, in our upstairs Neighbour balcony.. this dude zebrina was one day dropped and I decided to put it in water and it grew! God knows where they got this cutting from but it beautifies my room haha
I put Zebrina around 5 terracotta pots of my Persian Shield as a spiller deco plant. Yes, the combination of this two looks soooo gorgeous! Both have purple hue that compliment each other. Both are hardy plants but.... as Zebrina an extremely fast-growing plants, they consume more spaces in those pots as time goes by. The roots, though so shallow (they are creeper/climber/hanger) tangle up with PS - it's hard to PS to compete for food with this vigorously plant! So what I separated them to allow PS have more room for roots. As Zebrina, as they were elongated about half metre in just 2 months, I put it in hanging container & few of them as ground cover. Still looks pretty awesome to my eyes. I'm from Malaysia.
Repotting tip: Use the old pot as a mold in the new pot. mpack the soil around the old pot, remove it, leaving a hhole the precise size of the plant's current root ball. Pop it in and water.
Very cool. I have a pot with purple/silver, all green, & green/silver. It flowered this summer. I’m struggling with getting my finger into the soil so I can check it. Mine for sure likes more water. They propagate so fast & easy. I put the purple version in a glass and in a day or two I got a nice white tap root that had kind of a purply fuzzy layer around the root. I was thrilled! Thanks for the time you took to celebrate this awesome plant! 🌱❤️
Hello Kevin, came back to your video because two of my small potted Wandering Jews and they were all over the place so I had to propagate them!! You weren't kidding about it being an invasive plant!! I had to take all cuttings and am propagating them in water, can't wait to pot them up!!
Incredibly easy to grow and propagate. I also have one that has pink striped leaves, and another with fuzzy leaves, as well as the zebrina and the dark purple
I bought a pot with six or so short stalks coming out, so I separated them all into small terracotta pots and they've all each doubled and grown at least 2 feet in the last 6 months. Now I trimmed them down, cut the removed stem close to the end and repot the tips. Literally just let it dry the wound and then stick in the same pot it came from.
hi, kevin. i had one years ago when i was younger and i found one 6 months ago that i liked the appearance. it has tiny green leaves, a dwarf variety. and it's growing full speed under a grow light. A very easy growing habit. i think i'm gonna cut the growing tips to make it a bit denser. nice video. thanks, carmine.

My plant was beautiful last summer but when I brought it in for the winter the stems shriveled up and it started dying. I was able to rescue some ends and have them in dirt so I can try again. I tried propagating in water but the ends rotted so hopefully I'll do better with dirt! Thanks for the great video!
My mother-in-law gave me one of these, and I let it dry out too much, leaving just one little sprig alive. I stuck it in a big planter outside where I stick miscellaneous things rather than tossing them. That little sprig has grown into a huge, lush plant. It's a shame that when I take cuttings and pot for indoors, they never thrive, they get spindly. Too much a/c and dry air. The constant humidity (Central Florida) is a perfect environment outdoors!
As always I can count on your videos for the accurate and easy info👍🏽 My mom just gave me some cuttings 3 weeks ago and your video has helped me pot them today! 😊
Me too! I can't keep them healthy at all! I was so discouraged when he kept talking about how aggressively they grow, how they're considered invasive etc. , because mine always (1) are leggy and scrawny, not filling out the pot at all, (2)when I prune the leggy stems, trying to get them to bush out, they don't split into two new stems as expected but just start growing one stem again from the cut, and (3) get brown spots and blotches and the leaves eventually look so ugly I just give up for a couple of years before trying again. Why is it that one person's "so easy to grow" is another person's "certain death"?
@@francinekrasowska4667 Damn! I am the same with roses! I have many other plants that are lush and flowers everyday except roses! I can’t get the hang of it on how to make them more healthy and lush. Currently my roses right now are so twiggy and bald. 😿
Mines scrawny and leggy too, think 3 stems. I've propagated some ends that snapped, but need to wait till Spring to try to fill it out. I want another one.
I’ve tried a few different things but the only ones that have survived are the ones that I planted in my disabled frog’s tank. The combination of frog poop, microfauna, UVB and LED lighting, and dirty frog water seems to do wonders. I tried the same thing with my other frogs but they are much less shy and will destroy everything in sight (including a snake plant). Sir Reginald sat his fat little frog butt on the zebrina till it eventually got smothered and died 😂

I got one of these as a gift from a friend moving out of town. He'd had it for a few years and it's a leggy lady. Not bushy at all and half is vines were brown and dead at the middle and root . But still green at the ends. I took them away and kept what still lively bits i could. First time with this one. Dunno what im doing🙃 thank you for sharing this video
My biggest issue with these are their brittleness - just standing close to them branches seem to break off, LOL. They do grow like gangbusters though! (all types)

That’s pretty hot even in the shade. I’m going to keep them in this year and over the winter. Then hang them next summer on the patio. 🌿
I have these hanging on my fence. Couple times a year l just get down on my knees and harvest all the little plantlets from the areas around the hanging pots. The wind and squirrels knock off little bits and they just take root. It's about the most painless plant propagating I've ever done!

Hi,I am from India.. Yeah tredescantia plants are easy to grow..I love it's colour..I think deeper colors can be seen when it is expose to good amount of sunlight.
Tradescantia species require absolutely no effort to grow here in Australia (especially in coastal gardens with high humidity). All you have to do is drop a stem or leaf on some soil and away it will go.
In addition to having this potted plant inside. I also have one which lives in an old glass bottle. I simply empty the water inside the glass bottle every 1-2 weeks. It sure brightens things up! I personally 💚 this easy to care for plant!
Thanks. I really love your posts. But please can you post a comment about changing the use of the name from wandering Jew? If you look this up, I think you’ll find it is a name derived from an old myth that perpetuated negative stereotypes of Jewish people. It’s quite hurtful and shouldn’t be used anymore. This is coming from a Catholic married to a Jew with Jewish children. I appreciate your consideration. And again I love your posts …. And I love my tradescantia!

I don’t mean to brag but this plant is piss easy to grow. It does very well under a grow light with dome, I got it at Home Depot for $2 and it had no name and was with other small tropical plants. It was very small and had two small growths and nothing else. A few weeks later it has grown several new leaves and constantly grows aerial roots. This plant has been nothing but success, before I watched this video I called it the purple leaf plant since I didn’t know it was called the wandering jew. Edit: many months later and it is huge!
I got a cutting of this and in just 4 months it could cover my 11 year old boxer. Invasive on tropical places, use as ground cover. If you drop even a leaf outdoors it would grow by itself.🤪. Super duper easy plant. Its more vibrant color when its a bit dry and some sun👍

Me:Has no problems with the hardest plants to take care of.
Also me: Struggles to keep the easiest ones healthy and has a mental breakdown why they hate me
You probably give them too much attention😅 as that is something harder plants want, it's fine by those but with easier ones you can just let them be and they'll live. Next time try to leave them on their own a bit more maybe😊
I give my plants to much attention. The easiest the plant is supposed to be I kill
Me and pothos 😒
I thought I was the only one. My fittonia loves me, but my ivy doesnt. I killed 3 in the last 6 months 🤦🏿♀️
Same here I have orchids but cant grow bamboo.. Lol
When you slid into frame in that butcher apron...
my heart skipped a beat!
*swoon
Great video as always. Very informative and easy to follow.
Thanks for posting.
Appreciate the kind words!
I love this plant. It's very beautiful and forgiving. Good lessons. Thanks.
That’s a stunning combination.
Two different textures, but almost the same colour combination.
This plant will almost take over!! It’s strong and pretty and EASY TO GROW!!!!!!
I have this plant and love love it...its so easy to propogate..Its colours are so amazing.
You are welcome! Love that you've got 3 types potted up!
Hello Kevin, came back to your video because two of my small potted Wandering Jews and they were all over the place so I had to propagate them!! You weren't kidding about it being an invasive plant!! I had to take all cuttings and am propagating them in water, can't wait to pot them up!!
Really high quality video. I just received this plant as a gift and was completely lost. Thanks for the help.
So incredibly helpful!!! I can't wait to start propagating mine when it grows some more. Just a baby right now.
Just propagated my plant back into the pot to make it more bushy! Thank you for the video!
hi, kevin. i had one years ago when i was younger and i found one 6 months ago that i liked the appearance. it has tiny green leaves, a dwarf variety. and it's growing full speed under a grow light. A very easy growing habit. i think i'm gonna cut the growing tips to make it a bit denser. nice video. thanks, carmine.
Gorgeous one. Definitely do some pruning Carmine!
Can I pinch the growing tips to encourage branching? Mine always get too leggy.
@@brendamaun5455 yes you can pinch the growing tips of trads. i usually take more off to root that piece and make new plants.
@@carminepetracca7518 TY. I have rooted lots of cuttings to resell. I couldn't believe none of my local greenhouses in central PA sold this. I finally found another reseller and got some cuttings from her.
It doesn't stop growing even in winter! This one has grown into my shelfs, other plants, its like 2m long atm even tho I had to cut it back bc it got way too big 😂
I watched your channel for the first time. Your garden is very beautiful. I want to make my garden as beautiful as yours. I love the beautiful flowers in your garden ... I love to grow flowers .. it's my hobby. I give my utmost support to those who channel about the garden .. to the people who love the environment that I love the most .. they will be blessed to do beautiful things like this .. so have a nice day .. I am a friend ..
My plant was beautiful last summer but when I brought it in for the winter the stems shriveled up and it started dying. I was able to rescue some ends and have them in dirt so I can try again. I tried propagating in water but the ends rotted so hopefully I'll do better with dirt! Thanks for the great video!
It's 2021 man. Wandering Dude.
i swear
I have a small zebrina, I can't want for it to grow big and large! It's so beautiful, with the shining green and deep purple.
As always I can count on your videos for the accurate and easy info👍🏽
My mom just gave me some cuttings 3 weeks ago and your video has helped me pot them today! 😊
I am the “Plant Lady” in my family. But I’ve purchased and 🥴killed this plant 3 times.
Plants are like people. Some vibe with you and some don't and you just can't force the relationship if it's not a genuine one.
Clear shot of morning sun and forget to water it sometimes haha
🤣🤣🤣
That is just too funny! How dare you invade my space! 😂
I'm obsessed with all of my tradescantia! I've got a very large leggy zebrina and a 3" starter tricolor beauty.I'm looking to buy pink tricolor next! 💗💜 They're sooo easy to grow, aren't fussy at all and very beautiful... what's not to love?!🙂
Thank you for the very informative video I really needed to know how to correctly prune the long leggy vines.💜🌿💚
How did it turn out?
My biggest issue with these are their brittleness - just standing close to them branches seem to break off, LOL. They do grow like gangbusters though! (all types)
I've had good luck with just planting all cuttings directly into moist soil
Same here!💗 I love them because they're beautiful and not fussy at all.
yes haha when I prune it I just stick my fingers into the moist soil and stick the cutting right back.
Same I found rooting in water is an unnecessary step
One of my favorite plants!!! And I’m loving the Espoma potting mix!! My plants love it, they’re all so happy and healthy!!
got this plant a few weeks ago and love how it twist and turn and turning the pot lol..love this video..and the gardener too!! hi from the UK
Sweet! Thanks for the info. I just got one clippings. I have a nice covered patio that I’m sure they would love. I just worry with this heat wave. We’re having 90+ numbers.
I love this plant. I’m doing better at propagating it to different planters. Now I’m Growing it outside to see it will look from the porch.
Easiest plant to grow and start the love of plants with. I give cutting and plants of this away all the time to introduce the next generations to the love of plants
You can also pull out the tiny new leaf and this will have that stem branch out in another area making it fuller and not letting it get leggy!
That’s an idea. You can see that they get very laggy if there is only one stem coming out of the pot.
My trick is to soak a plant really well BEFORE I transplant them. This makes the testing away of the roots easier and this gives them a really good start the new soil.
Donna Allgaier-Lamberti I do the same. 😊
...zone 6 here...I toss cuttings in rain water they root fastest in warmer weather... but not too hot...leaves grow bigger if well fed and enough light...smaller leaves in brighter light tho...collect all the varieties myself...solid green leaves...hairy leaves ... and tiny leaf versions...nice plant to share...
Do you have it as a houseplant or outside? I’m zone 7
EVERY plant I look up, mr man here has an extremely good looking one with loads of technical knowledge on it too looooool. I know you have a good sized house, but it doesn't even look too busy with plants, yet INDOOR and OUTDOOR you have EVERYTHING lol including...... GOURD!! lol I'd think I've seen your house from every angle... but somehow... there's always ANOTHER outdoor space loooool. You're like super gardener!
My daughter in-law just sent me some Zebrina babies. They travel well thru the mail. They rooted in 3 days. I also found the dark purple ones during my walk...just growing wild.
I picked one up from the grocery store because it looked so sad. I put it in my South facing window, but watering was definitely where my question came in lol I'm a succulent mom, so I love things that prefer neglect 😂 Great information!
The only plant i haven't killed 😆 and so easy to propagate. Their roots grow so fast .
My neighbor had this plant growing on her back porch she gave me a couple of the stems off of it and this thing is growing like crazy.
Hi,I am from India..
Yeah tredescantia plants are easy to grow..I love it's colour..I think deeper colors can be seen when it is expose to good amount of sunlight.
Thank you for being so concise and thorough. Exactly what I look for in care videos.
Thank you for this video. I just purchased this plant, a small one. Can't wait to see how big it will get.
Tradescantia species require absolutely no effort to grow here in Australia (especially in coastal gardens with high humidity). All you have to do is drop a stem or leaf on some soil and away it will go.
So very true
Same in the 🇺🇸 (Ohio)
but I wouldn't dare leave them outdoors in the winter months!🥶🌿⛄
Lots of the species are actually a weed in Australia so just make sure you check that
In addition to having this potted plant inside. I also have one which lives in an old glass bottle. I simply empty the water inside the glass bottle every 1-2 weeks. It sure brightens things up! I personally 💚 this easy to care for plant!
Put the empty pot in and backfill soil. Take pot out and pop in plant. Perfect fit.
Yeah, that's a great hack
Good idea! 🙂
You are correct. We have one in our office and we call it wandering dude. ❤
Just received one of these for Mother's Day along with some other plants.
Oh wow, what a big and beautiful plant, I have been looking for this variety for awhile, I remember when they were all over the place, now I have a hard time finding them. Thanks for a great video.
Shouldn't be too hard to find online if it comes to it!
Thanks for your informative video. I have just had one delivered it’s the Zebrina. It’s just got roots so I’ve just potted it up and am so excited to watch it grow. Wanted one for ages. Really excited so your video was educational as I’m a novice. Thank you and subscribed 👍🏻
I got my wandering dude while walking down my street one day. These are true weeds in Florida. And you can take a small cutting and be good to go
NihlusGreen - that sounds amazing! It’s a money saver too and a great project.
You are an excellent “teacher” thank you.
Thank you! I'm a beginner plant owner and I feel like my zebrina is dieing. Now that I have watched this video I understand why
Hope it comes back!
@@epicgardening thank you!
Were you able to save it?
We live in Central Florida...in our yard, it is GROUNDCOVER! We have to cut it/trim it with a weed whacker! It grows in the shade, in the sun - it has survived tropical storms, a hurricane and BOUNCES back from a dry spell.
Nice informative video for me because I was so confused how to care this plant.
Thanks for the info. I've seen these but never purchased one. The purple variety is growing all over my yard in South Florida and was here when I moved in. It's a hardy plant for sure.
You can say that for sure! Very hardy
Thank you for this information on Wandering!JewI just bought one! I use the water propagate method! I found this a very hard plant to get! Ty!
This plant is just as good looking as you! It's a very easy plant to propagate. You got me hooked! ; )
I gasped when you turned the plant over to loosen the roots. I just got a purple heart wandering jew and though it looks tough it's also surprisingly fragile. The zebrina looks more hardy.
Oh yeah, these you could drop on the floor and they would propagate into the carpet!
@@epicgardeningtrue
They can what
@@epicgardening wait what!? we accidentally dropped ours onto the carpet. is now worried.
But it roots so easily I took one pot and in two yrs filled 50 .. Literally
Thank you. I’m in love with these plants and this is super helpful
I received a cutting of this plant when I ordered 30 succulent cuttings off eBay. After Facebook told us the name I called one of my Jewish friends. We now call ours “Wondering Dude”. And we love him! I doubt you read comments on a year old video but just in case you do, how about a video on Coleus plants?
It is a beautiful garden plant. Mine literally had taken over. Lovely ground cover. I have planted one in a hanging basket but not looking like yours. Wow your one is beautiful!
I Growing my WJ out of my Fish tanks long with several Pothos and Lilys, they seem to like it, and I chheet with a Grow light, but Fish and Plants are growing and healthy..
Oh yeah I bet they would blow up in fish tanks!
My twin brother does the same thing with his aquarium at work. Depending on the plant, if a piece happens to fall off. . . into the aquarium it goes. Everyone has live
plants in their offices where he works. Makes for a nice working environment.
That's a good idea 💡 👍
Oh yes they root like crazy in water!!
Wow 🤩 your Zebrina is so beautiful I just bought mine and it’s so small compared to your’s... hope I can make mine as big as your’s SO PRETTY 😍 Thank you for sharing this video
Where I live (Bolivia) these plants- 2 types wandering jew- zebrina and pallida- grow naturally, road side, in parks, just wild, SO I have NEVER bought any ( pretty cool, I know), I just pluck a few, propagate in water or soil and they just take off! I have loads on the go right now. The pallida is especially beautiful, in my opinion. I just planted some that I propagated, under my palm tree. I wish I could post a few pics so you could see them!
so informative lots of ideas. I bought large one last year and need to transplant into new pot. Your video will mak it simple. I propagated cuttings in gardens in my yard for the past year. time to repot mother plant.
Freaken awesome video! Super informative and this guys voice and personality fit perfectly! Like so soothing and interesting 🧐
I just got one! I had no idea they got this big! Mine is just a baby with one leaf!
i have this one mixed with the purple one and look so aestetic.
