The zebrina is the only tradescantia that has survived my care. I ffind them difficult for some reason. I have a Tradescantia Pistachio White and I love it. It was a sad pathetic plant at the greenhouse, but I've nurtured it into a large, lush, Cousin Itt-looking specimen. So far, I've grown it outside in a hanging basket under shade cloth, and am taking cuttings each week to give to neighbors. It's done well in St Louis Missouri hot humid summer, but soon I'll have to bring it indoors to overwinter. Thank you for the tip about not getting water on the leaves. I have my zebrina outside getting full sun and it has gone absolutely insane!! Used to live inside and was barely growing but outside in the sun it is getting so large and bushy I have had to trim it twice in the last 4 months alone! Also getting flowers like mad! Would never have done this but after given the advice from a reliable grower in my local area (gotten advice from her on several plants but zebrinas are her specialty) and she said to put in the sun and it has become a main eye catcher in my garden!
It would be interesting to see an experiment where you try growing one up those clear "moss" poles filled with compost or coco coir etc and see if it holds its leaves since it can root into it, great video.
I loved watching this video! I learned alot, and will now be trimming back my plant, and using the cuttings to grow more stems. Thank you for a great video. Very Informative!

Great video. Lots of good info. Looks like my plant needs a lot of help. The stems are long and thin with lots of small leaves that are turning brown. The side that is against the window is almost all dead! I need to make a lot of changes ! Thanks to your video I have a better understanding of what to do now 👍
Thank you so much for this video! I picked up a small pot with 3 cuttings and planted all 3 in my mourning gecko enclosure. I have volcanic soil (bio/fluval stratum) in it and I didn't know if it was just the soil or if this is the normal growth rate for zebrina. I'm thrilled to know they're easy to propagate, it's only been a few months and they're hitting the top of the enclosure now and bending so I'm going to trim them soon and add it to my crested gecko enclosure. @@SheffieldMadePlants i haven’t seen it in a store yet but you can get cuttings on Etsy. I got mine as part of a trade for a butterwort and it’s probably the best trade I’ve ever made. lol have i mentioned i love Trads?
How is it that many people say not to get the leaves wet? They do get wet in their natural habitat, no? I rinse the leaves of my pallida, cerinthoides, mundula, fluminensis, albiflora, zebrina and the Callisia gentlei weekly and don’t experience the rotting leaves. Could the rot be caused by wet leaves and not enough air circulation? When I rinse the leaves, I make sure to shake them a bit to remove any excess water (don’t want too much water dripping on the floor and furniture) and put them back in place. But I do provide good circulation. I combine showering the plants with my daily chores and open all doors/windows (doesn’t matter the season).
The rotting because wet issue seems to affect my Nanouk more than anything. This plant really doesn't seem to like humidity. It is probably to do with air circulation. In my experience Trads don't tend to like having water droplets on the leaves for too long. Nice collection by the way.
@@SheffieldMadePlants thank you. I smell a new video coming up😌 It may be an idea to take some cuttings and try it out? Like to a test with one plant that gets bottom watered, one that leaves gets rinsed and placed back in its spot without additional air circulation and one with air circulation?

I think the problem is that I can't keep up with how often I have to propogate to fill in the bare area at the base. She grows so quickly year round.

I smell a new video coming up😌
It may be an idea to take some cuttings and try it out?
Like to a test with one plant that gets bottom watered, one that leaves gets rinsed and placed back in its spot without additional air circulation and one with air circulation?
@@Latayla like it!
Do you know if Ivies, such as the needlepoint ivy, have the same spreading habit? B/c mine is dying off the same way as the tradescantia 😅
Might be similar. Probably wants to attach itself to crawl
Can pinning the stems help with the dying back? Can I pin instead of snipping ?
Pinning works well if you have the room
When you bottom water, how do you give liquid fertilizer and plant food ?
Same as normal really. Give it a good drink with fertiliser for it to soak up
Lots good information
Thank you 😊
your voice is sooooo much nicer when you talk naturally!!!!! please continue that kind of talking and less of the „presenter mode“.

@@SheffieldMadePlants ok thanks. Il take them out now.
Anyone please! Will my trandescantia prefer a self watering pot?
I see no problem with that 👍
I think i have a baby bunny bellies tradescantia, have you heard of this and is care same for all tradescantias?
Is that a Teddy bear vine?
I don't know I can't get a accurate answer when I taken a picture with Google. Leaves are green and fuzzy but purple underneath
This morning all pictures are saying Baby Bunny Belliies
@@keriwallace2022 oh yes I think I know the variety. I like the furry ones. They seems a little less temperamental
Is it still in the tradescantia family?
I am unable to buy spring water, i live in the city and thankfully the ph of the water isnt high. I how ever treat rhe water with water conditioner for fish tanks. I use prime take 1 drop a gallon.
So do I 😁
Why do zebrinas turn diffrent colors?
What colour have they changed to and from? They get more pale green and less purple when they are not in enough indirect light.
I'm in the process of killing mine right now. I have replanted it twice and it is just mush. 🤕
They normally bounce back because they grow so quickly 🤞
If a plant dies back, its leaves die but its roots remain alive. PHRASAL VERB Collins english dictionary
