    I bought a tradescantia zebrina. About a year ago and it has grown so much I have propagated it over and over and over again I've given it away to so many people my mailman my delivery guy anybody that comes to my house leaves with a tradescantia zebrina LOL I have a few others and I love how quickly they grow and their little flowers are so cute thank you for this video. I wasn't sure about getting one of these but thanks to you I think I'm going to try it. I was on the fence about lecca but now I think you have made up my mind for me I don't think I'm going to try it I've got a few hundred dollars invested in my plants not only that but my heart is invested in my plants also so I don't want to take a risk of losing any of them. I think I'll stick with what I know thank you very much I look forward to watching more of your videos you're a great guy.

    For Tradescantia Sillamontana, it’s essential to keep the roots dry. I grow them under white LED lights and managed to propagate successfully.
    Feed them with a diluted seaweed fertilizer and they are thriving. I dip the stem in rooting hormone first and put them in a glass jar with the tips submerged in 2-3 mm of water only. Top up when the jar is almost dry. It will grow roots in about 7-10 days. After that I grew them in a cactus potting mixture with 20% sand to prevent root rot. So far , I haven’t encountered root rot yet. I use the same method for the Nanouk.

    Great video Sean! Tradescantia are a lot of fun. You’re right they’re sensitive to being overwatered and leaves will crisp up when they receive too much water (making us think that they’re dehydrated and want more water). Especially the varieties with very thick succulent stems/leaves like Nanouk and the Sillamontana (the fuzzy one). The Sillamontana is a desert species, it enjoys a fast draining airy soil mix, lower humidity and drying out between waterings. They can get leggy with longer internodes if they’re not receiving enough bright light/sunlight. More light will keep the plant looking fuller with more leaves, shorter internodes. It looks like you’re doing an awesome job with your babies. ☀️🌱

    • @onlyplants
      @onlyplants  3 роки тому +8

      Thank youuuu. The Sillamontana is so adorable I cant wait for it to grow. Its a bit slower than the other tradescantias.

      i've got one in a big hanging basket at home. It's been in the unheated lean-to conservatory, which regularly gets down to 1-2'c in winter, and the thing is bullet proof!! In fact I must have only watered it around 4 times between november and april. Also, the colour is vivid bright pink and the growth habit is compact too (must be the cold)

    I got a Nanouk off the discount rack. When I first saw it I thought it was on the discount rack cuz the poor thing had obviously been dropped of his head. I took him home thinking maybe my mom could help me nurse him only to discover that he was in much worse shape than I thought. He was getting bad root rot and we had to get rid of most of the plant, but he’s now growing back very well and sharing his pot with a Zebrena actually.

    i really enjoyed this. I just bought a nanouk and had it outside in a warm climate in a southwestern exposure. i think it was getting too much bright direct light (4 hours a day) so after watching your video i put in in a more dappled area. I like your voice--very calming.

    • @onlyplants
      @onlyplants  3 роки тому

      Ooo they do like a bit of direct light. One way you can tell if its not getting enough light may be losing of variegation. So keep an eye out for the color in case its in too low of a light.

    wow when i heard the price you got yours for my mind was blown. not too sure how much that would translate into USD but you make it sound like a lot. i got lucky in the states i found mine at a bargain grocery store for about $5 USD and it’s been doing so well. when i originally reported it some of the bottom leaves fell off and i got sad and thought i ruined the plant, but eventually after a month they’ve grown back new branches and the whole plant has so much more bright pink variegations. such a beautiful plant it’s become one of my favorites. i find them to be very similar to succulents as well.
