First, let's find out what ironwood is. The ironwood tree has the common name of all types of ironwood in the ironwood family such as: ironwood, Lao ironwood, green ironwood, South African ironwood, etc. In the Vietnamese market, the most commonly used type of ironwood is green ironwood. . This plant has the scientific name Erythrophleum Fordii, belonging to the family Fabaceae, genus Erythrophleum.
It's really beautiful wood. I'm just mystified why you'd want 20cm (8") thick slabs. It's too thick for any practical boardroom or dining table. It's unnecessarily thick for a counter top. Even 10cm slabs are still thick, even after machining flat, and you'd get twice as many, or four times as many regular thickness slabs. And what on earth was that 30cm plus quartersawn behemoth for and the 25cm slabs that came after it? It strikes me as very wasteful use of such a beautiful piece of timber.
Absolutely stunning wood grain!
