Have you ever experimented with BLACK 2.0 to make unsettling shadow creatures? I have ordered some a few days ago and want to try it. See if it really removes all details and just leaves the outlines of the minis. If that works it's going to be so sick.
I have recently started using a cheap 3D printer from Amazon to print minis at home. Every once in a while, when they go wrong I add the misprint to my "statue garden" I've been running a campaign with basilisks so it worked to just paint them like stone, bronze never even crossed my mind. Great job!
Statues, Dullahan (Headless minis) or ghosts are my go-to fixes for my mis-fits. Also any heads of Dullahan recruits can be sculpted together to make a face-covered abomination of any kind. Enjoyed, thanks!
Painting random minis as ”ghosts” also works pretty well... and if you have duplicate minis you can paint one “normal” and bring it back in another encounter as a ghost/specter, etc looking for vengeance
I feel like the wash interaction actually helped sell the verdigris - on smooth surfaces you normally only see the shiny kind, but more detailed areas IRL can get almost crusted on layers
Plastic crystals were a nice touch. You also get an easy patina by undercoating in a dark green and dry brushing bronze / gold. The effect is more muted and natural, so it just depends on what you want to achieve. I've also turned action figures into golems with this technique. You can also integrate the miniatures into buildings, columns, terrain pieces, etc. I like the discussion you're starting here. Always up for ideas on how to use minis in different ways.
Those Pegasuseses... Pegasi... whatever... those winged horses look great! I subscribed for this video alone- Really enjoying your other videos, as well. Thanks!
This is my fav thing to do with mini's i cant find a place for :) Exp when you pair it with wooden or other candlestick holders, it can make them look like awesome "life sized" memorials.
Nice! I've done this a few times recently myself. It's also a great use for damaged minis you don't want to fix up. I've also used a statue of an NPC to introduce the character into the game.
I had 3d printed some miniatures that were to big in size so I decided to make them into statues and I used your technique above and they came out fantastic...I can't believe how realistic they look. Thank you for this tip...these are GREAT additions to my terrain and I am sure they will be used many times!!
Those came out really nice. Could see a run through where those statues come "ALIVE". I have a Wonder Woman figure I think will get a marble look but her gear good and silver some hens on her too.
I found you late, but boy have you made an impact! I’m using your videos for washes, new monsters, making terrain. Thank you from me and my party who are benefitting from the inspiration you’ve provided!
I'm attempting to recreate Frank Frazetta's Atlantis Rising painting for DnD and this video was extremely helpful in showing how to do the statue! Thanks, Jeremy!
I've got so many mini's that I haven't painted, this is a great idea! One thing that could look pretty awesome with those Pegasus is putting them up on pillars at the entrance to an ancient temple, or adjacent to a throne.
Yea that was what I was thinking right from the start....but I didn’t want to glue them to pillars so they were more modular. I can still place these on pillars if desired.
To be honest I want one of those Pegasus as a desk toy, looks so fantastic❤️ Also hello I’m new to your channel, the basic dungeon tiles and hag hut videos brought me here Not enough room in my place to do miniatures myself, but really enjoy watching what other folks make :)
So shiny. I struggle to paint my Miniatures too, I tend to buy the pre painted ones now even though they look ok. The bronze turned out awesome looks great!! :)
I like to use teal pastel crushed with a mortar and pestle and mixing with rubbing alcohol and daubing it around to give a perfect patina look. Also works great for rust effects if you choose an orange-brown pastel. Peace
I had a pretty funny time with a miniature. I had a dwarf I coated in a gold basecoat to get most of the gold out of the way before getting it ready for other colors. My DM picked the dried miniature up and used it as a dwarf coated in magic bronze. After a think I painted it into the bronze dwarf he designed with emerald eyes. Made it an easier project than painting it as a normal dwarf.
Lol me and my brother have been playing the game for around 36 years and we have thousands of minis, "lead, pewter, plastic etc so we have a few unused minis lol, i'll have to post a few pics of the 16 cases of minis and the boxes full of the stuff, yes it's an addiction and the struggle is real lol, and that' just the minis and not the other gaming stuff we collected over the years, and love the channel and your work, keep up the great work :)
A fun way to underpaint bronze - while sticking with the craft paints - under coat with a green color, then drybrush with a green metallic, mix some bronze in with the green metallic - maybe a fifty/fifty mix - then 'drybrush' while the first green metallic layer is still moist. Then again with a straight bronze. Let dry, then give a brown or sepia wash.
I'm DMing a D&D campaign and I'm looking at 3D printing another copy of a mini for a character that just died to turn into a statue the town commissioned to honour his sacrifice. This is so far my favourite technique. Looks amazing
Oh and there was supposed to be a bow and quiver stowed away on the snakeman's back. That is why he has that weird hole there. Now you will eventually have to find a crafting purpose for that part if you ever find it!
Great idea! I've been thinking about using little plastic gems on statues but haven't tried yet. Glad to see how well it works! Also, I just ordered a Proxxon foam cutting table. Ordered through your affiliate so you should see a kickback I guess? I hope so, you deserve the cash! Also, I believe it's pronounced "VER-di-gree." But I could be wrong. It's not a word I hear people say a lot.
usually tend to mix wizard orb and electric blue from armypainter and water it down with some methanol for the wash. I really dont bother with returning the highlights afterwards as bronze statues usually dont have any original color left, much like roofs of old churches.
Turned out looking great. I think everyone gas a draw of unpainted minis I haves boxes full lol gonna definitely give this a try. Thanks for showing a great way to make them look brassy.
Great idea! I got a few 3d misprints waiting. The only problem I have with most unused minis, is that they are WH 40k. Doesn't go well in a D&D game. :/
For a patina look, you would end up with a better look by skipping the dishsoap and water, thin it down with rubbing alcohol and you get a better look in the end. Tabletop Minions had a video on it that is rather old but quite good and where I'd gotten the technique from.
Theese statue look great since you can just put them anywhere. A dungeon, library, wizard school, normal school, town square etc. Thanks for this video
Thanks again for a great video! Have been doing this with a different color scheme and I will prob switch to this one :) Mine lookes too much like stone :)
Originally I planned on making these stone statues, but after looking at the figures I thought they didn't make sense as stone statues, too many parts that probably wouldn't hold up or be possible as stone in real life.
How funny! I actually just bought a set of those asian style minis on ebay, they definitely won't become statues in my game, but it's fun seeing them here. This is such a cool idea!
Fun tip: try not to dip a water laden brush into the metallic Paint pot directly. Use a dish to mix/paint from. If your metallics pot gets water in it, it can cause the actual metal flakes to start oxidizing and you'll get a weird discoloration going on. Strangely I've only really noticed it in my bronze/brass coloured paints, not so much the silvers.
I got similar results painting the mini with the green rust color, then a heavy drybrush of bronze, then a light drybrush of gold and finally a watered down black wash so it looks aged and the colors dont look so saturated.
This video displays your brilliance. There are several blue-geen shades of patina effect, and this mixture allows for the varying shades. By the way, the Ocean Breeze by Craft Smart that you used is just one shade darker than the FolkArt Patina. Adding a few specks of white to it yields the FolkArt Patina color. I found this article on patina shading. www.rosco.com/spectrum/index.php/2018/03/pro-tips-for-painting-pretty-patinas/
Could have used the Pegasus as part of a storyline. I remember reading in one of the monster books that there is a creature I think it's a Dark or Demon Horse. It's created when a Pegasus has its wings cut off. Been wanting to get a set for a rescue mission campaign.
If you have some that are identical (or not) you can paint them as statues made of different materials to also work as part of a puzzle in your dungeon, Wood, Stone, Cobber, gold, crystal and so on!

Please share your results that sounds amazing.
Ghosts is a REALLY good idea for any pc/npc type minis. I’ll have to try that.
Painting random minis as ”ghosts” also works pretty well... and if you have duplicate minis you can paint one “normal” and bring it back in another encounter as a ghost/specter, etc looking for vengeance
Quite clever!
how do you paint ghosts?
I feel like the wash interaction actually helped sell the verdigris - on smooth surfaces you normally only see the shiny kind, but more detailed areas IRL can get almost crusted on layers

What would you recommend for Marbling? I would love to have something Greek feeling. Seriously the best tabletop channel.
Nihilakh Oxide technical paint from Citadel does a really good job of adding verdigris over bronze.
This is my fav thing to do with mini's i cant find a place for :)
Exp when you pair it with wooden or other candlestick holders, it can make them look like awesome "life sized" memorials.
I was thinking of this but stone or marble for setting up a like Medusa fight
Nice! I've done this a few times recently myself. It's also a great use for damaged minis you don't want to fix up. I've also used a statue of an NPC to introduce the character into the game.
Woah those turned out amazing! I will have to try this out on some of the minis in the small mountain of unpainted miniatures in my place.
I generally paint my bronze statues slightly different. I start with the verdigris as a layer after priming and then drybrush the metallics.
same here
I also use this technique when applying moss to ancient stone statues (i.e. for graves)
I’ve tried that method and personally didn’t like the results as much.
What color did you use as a base? Something light?
I love the extra work you've been putting into the intros, really great work BMC
"For a year"? I have minis I bought in the late 1980's still unpainted. :D
You too?
Sup lazy dad club
But he only switched away from paper minis recently
That's a gold mine
I found you late, but boy have you made an impact! I’m using your videos for washes, new monsters, making terrain. Thank you from me and my party who are benefitting from the inspiration you’ve provided!

That verdigris is amazing! Love how it turned out.
Wow! Those Pegasus statues look great! Great job man!👍🤙
I've got so many mini's that I haven't painted, this is a great idea! One thing that could look pretty awesome with those Pegasus is putting them up on pillars at the entrance to an ancient temple, or adjacent to a throne.

Definitely something to consider if you aren't wanting them to be a permanent fixture.
Loved it.. Fantastic effect with the bronze. That aqua patina/oxidation always seems so daunting to pull off well.. But your method looks fantastic!
Love the tutorial, have been searching for a workable for me aged bronze/brass tutorial
Unused minis isn't my typical problem... it's the bulk store bought "action figures" that I like turn into statues. Great techniques!
I sometimes use them for parts, like heads on a pike, or for swords or shields
This idea but for stone statues would be a great revisit later. Great video, thanks for all your hard work.
That vert-de-gris effect you got with the watered down paint is amazing! Will definitely give it a go when I want to try an aged bronze look.
To be honest I want one of those Pegasus as a desk toy, looks so fantastic❤️
Also hello I’m new to your channel, the basic dungeon tiles and hag hut videos brought me here
Not enough room in my place to do miniatures myself, but really enjoy watching what other folks make :)
Again great effect for aged looking statues. Thanks for the painting ideas. Now where are my old Ral Partha minis?
Loving that wash technique!
Very cool effect! For the lazy, GW makes a very good patina paint as well.
Love this! Super easy and effective. Now I have to see what junk I have in my bits box!
I did a similar bronzed paint on several elf minis I doubled as animated statues. It went over so well!
So shiny. I struggle to paint my Miniatures too, I tend to buy the pre painted ones now even though they look ok. The bronze turned out awesome looks great!! :)
ver-deh-gree
that oxidized bronze look is fantastic! I think you really found the secret to achieving a realistic look.
I like to use teal pastel crushed with a mortar and pestle and mixing with rubbing alcohol and daubing it around to give a perfect patina look. Also works great for rust effects if you choose an orange-brown pastel. Peace
such a great idea. i've got plenty of unused figs i just never got around to painting.
Epic job in the bronze look painting dude they are killer!
Definitely going to be using this technique soon! Thanks BMC!
I just love what you do with cheap plastic stuff.
I've done this. It can be very effective as an object of interest for players.
Really great tips...and profoundly simple in practice.
WAAAAH I've done basically the same but with stone effect... :-)
Love your videos mate, do keep up the great work!
Awesome looking bronze statues, thanks for sharing.

Very realistic effect! Some statue could have a very polished spot with no oxydation like some statues people like to touch for good luck :D
These are awesome Jeremy ! Thanks for the tips!
How about a video about marble statues? I have a bunch of chess pieces that I would love to turn into statuary. Great video!
I'm DMing a D&D campaign and I'm looking at 3D printing another copy of a mini for a character that just died to turn into a statue the town commissioned to honour his sacrifice. This is so far my favourite technique. Looks amazing

I don't have it....it also was from a box of random stuff I was gifted, lots of stuff missing parts....lots of stuff for statues :D
Great idea! I've been thinking about using little plastic gems on statues but haven't tried yet. Glad to see how well it works!
Also, I just ordered a Proxxon foam cutting table. Ordered through your affiliate so you should see a kickback I guess? I hope so, you deserve the cash!

Everytime you post I start a new project everything is amazins
Really really really good video
Thanks man!
This technique would look good on some of your wall/door thingies for the dungeon tiles.
Very cool, but might I suggest for the metallic coating instead of using the craft paint try using Rust-Oleum metallic finish spray paint.
Exactly what I was looking for! Thank you!
Great. I wanted to give the minis from the Conan boardgame a unique look and this seems great for them.
usually tend to mix wizard orb and electric blue from armypainter and water it down with some methanol for the wash. I really dont bother with returning the highlights afterwards as bronze statues usually dont have any original color left, much like roofs of old churches.

Love it dude. Nicely done! SO many statues to be made...
Great idea! I got a few 3d misprints waiting. The only problem I have with most unused minis, is that they are WH 40k. Doesn't go well in a D&D game. :/
They look fantastic!
Thanks!

This was a great idea! I will 100% do this in my campaign.
they look really good. If you have other unused miniature please do a tutorial on how to paint them to look like marble statue or ghosts :)
How funny! I actually just bought a set of those asian style minis on ebay, they definitely won't become statues in my game, but it's fun seeing them here. This is such a cool idea!
Thank you, I will make good use of this for my diver helmet guys
I really need to up my storage game for all these good ideas.

Fantastic idea and results! Thanks for the vid.
Those pegasi though like dayumm
These came out awesome dude
The stone statues would be great for a basilisk or Medusa's petrified garden.
I cant wait to try this!
Thanks for the awesome video!
That texture actually made it look more realistic as oxidized bronze has a similar texture

Have you got any videos on lava, and/or liquid splashes and effects?
Great video, sir. Statues = Brass Golems!!!
ver-dih-gree!
Great work as ever. All best.
Nice one! I'm imagining the weather is changing as it is in Norway. Do you do the varnishing inside the house?
I was about to comment "you could use Nihilakh Oxide to add some verdigris" and boom... you just reverse-engineered the crap out of it.
Looks great. Good work.
If you have some that are identical (or not) you can paint them as statues made of different materials to also work as part of a puzzle in your dungeon, Wood, Stone, Cobber, gold, crystal and so on!
That patina wash is simply uncanny.
Incredibly helpful video!
great idea, they look fantastic!
Awesome Idea, thank you.
If I get some minis in some weird scale they’re instantly getting the bronze statue treatment I’m like Medusa in here
Hey Black love your videos, I’m just about to order a Proxxon hot wire cutter and would love to know where you get the wooden guides
www.shiftinglands.com
You did a great job, thanks again this is fabulous!!!
You should do one for marble, or obsidian statues
