Hey, I've watched your videos for a while, I wanted to suggest making a foam DM screen!
You could place a logo, make the front a stone texture, and the inside a wood texture.

I did much the same thing to make a multi-tier mining scaffold. Little bit of blow-torching here and there, a few pebbles glued like rocks that had broken through boards, and it made for a very cool dungeon piece. Never underestimate the versatility of popsicle sticks for scenery!

    woo! Aussie, Aussie, Aussie!
Don't forget eye protection using your rotary tools, using a wire wheel in my rotary tool on popsicle sticks is my main method of creating wood planks. if you over speed a wire wheel it can explode and sometimes strands just break and fly off, you can end up with wire in places you don't want wire. Fortunately you don't need to go really fast to make the grain but accidents happen. Also that fine sawdust will just straight up float into your eyes and blind you quicker than magical darkness. craft safe people!

For the painted on string/thread portions on the barricade, you should look at taking some dental floss and letting it dye in a wash or watered down paint. Then wrap it around the spears/spikes, possibly even thread it through those holes. I think it would add a tremendous amount of depth to these. Awesome video

Made these and it inspired a tower that used sticks from the yard for the structural members for a very gnarly feel and it came out great! I dropped the pictures in an email at your site.

I'm working on a set of these using some cedar plant name markers as the boards instead of the popsicle sticks. They're already rough finished so you don't need to Dremel them up. Good for me living indoors with no real dedicated crafting area to get messy. Was very inspired by your video, love the channel.

I've used wire brushes to accent wood grain in a lot of stuff. Unlike using them on foam, using them on wood accents the wood grain already present.

Those Craftsmart paints are always inexpensive but a few times a year, usually during a lowest price of the season, you can find them for maybe 20 cents a piece. This Michaels employee always suggests stocking up then. Also, always ALWAYS use a coupon. I thought that would be common sense but it always surprised me how many people didn’t, even when buying something perfect for that 40 or 50% off. Blows my mind.

One really cool paint I found that would work very well with some of these builds is rusting paint. It has metal in the paint that, when activated with a chemical, it rusts. It would look great on old spears, shields, metal hinges, etc. You can find it on Amazon. There are all kinds, like iron oxide and copper.

about halfway done with 3 of my own - only change is i weighted the bottom of them down with plaster hirstarts logs and some wood bits off a few HA molds). I just need to add the hides (ill prob use some apoxie sculpt for 2-3 hides and skulls/heads on the spikes etc) then paint. I plan on using them for a goblin/hobgoblin controlled area inside an abandoned dwarven mine. They setup the barricades to defend themselves from undead and a necromancer infesting the outside graveyard and guardtower (outside the mine). But they should do just fine if the players crash the party heh heh.

Those of us sitting on piles of plastic Warhammer wargaming bitz and other 28mm wargaming bits are almost certainly overstocked on extra spear-arms - a great alternative for us! For some of us, it might be worth the money spent to buy one of the less expensive plastic wargaming undead army sets of skeleton warriors with spears and other weapons to kit-bash into this sort of project: you can use not only the spears to build the barricade from, but also the skulls, tattered banners, shields, and other such items as well. Other leftover skeleton bits can be assembled into piles of skulls, heaps of bones, the remains of torture victims left on altars and torture racks, and other such dungeon dressing....

I just binged watched all your video's over the last 4 days. and you talk about saving time while building. Dude buy a fricking airbrush!!! it's a time saver and you get the color you want. you don't have to use what you have in a rattle can, you get to use the color you want. Also your using acrylic paint so it will drys faster than the can enamels paint will. (Faster). OK with that said. love the video's and your very good at coming up with ideas for table top gaming terrain.

Why are reaper's goblins so big? They look so weird. I haven't seen another reaper model I don't like but I can't stand the goblins.

    • @pietrayday9915
      @pietrayday9915 5 років тому +1

Those goblins aren't much taller than the dwarves in the video, and are quite a bit thinner. Doesn't seem that weird to me, unless compared to D&D Miniatures pre-painted goblins, which tend to be D&D 3.5E halfling-sized (though D&D Miniatures haflings vary wildly in their height).
Additionally, Reaper does several styles of goblins by different sculptors in "Bones" plastic:
      1. those taller, more gangly goblins sculpted by Ben Siens (I like to think of those as hobgoblins)
      2. a shorter, rounder, and more traditional breed of goblins sculpted by Bobby Jackson
      3. licensed Pathfinder goblins sculpted by Ben Siens that are the same size and proportions as Pathfinder goblins made by e.g. Wizkids
      4. a set of four diminutive "Gremlins" by Bobby Jackson that seem to be maybe knee-high to most humanoid minis
      5. Some D&D style hobgoblins of human height
...and, additionally, there are a couple varieties of Reaper "Bones" plastic orcs:
      1. Some tall, hefty, muscular ogre-like orcs by Tre Manor that might be thought of a more elite, wicked, and powerful breed of orc
      2. Some smaller, gawpier, weaker, more miserable-looking orcs by Bob Olley that look more like the sort of low-morale rank-and-file conscripts that might be used as disposable cannon-fodder and suicide skirmishers forced to do all the stronger orcs' more dangerous and dirty work.
YMMV, but I don't mind some taller goblins or mixing the various types of goblins together with the understanding that goblins are far less consistent in their genetics than, say, elves or dwarves are, with a tribe of goblins varying quite widely in height, weight, appearance, colour, and so on. In D&D lore as it is, goblins, hobgoblins, and bugbears are all essentially the same species....
