@Lind Morn here's why you're wrong 2:45
@Lind Morn sure
Thank you for making this Scott, it was an honor and pleasure to hang out and if your state wasn't a frozen hellscape, I'd move closer in a second. Can't wait until the next paint jam, wish you nothing but the best to you and your in this holiday season and beyond.
Also, it's 20 painted armies now. ;)
That and you do 150 pushups, right?!?
Y'all's friendship is a joy to behold. 😆 Merry Christmas to all from Virgina! 🎄🎅⛄❄️
@@SeerIbarelyknowher thanks Virginia
Good Dark gods, is there an AoS army you don’t have painted yet??
Dear Vince, can I borrow your will power?
The best advice I ever got from the strict technomancer that is Lord Vincey was, "You are not special. You’re not a beautiful and unique snowflake. You’re the same decaying organic matter as everything else. We’re all part of the same compost heap. Start painting." He's a great man.
😀
Based reference
Careful, It can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop... ever, until you are dead!
@@dornjr Awesome.
Isnt that from fight club ?
Vince may claim he's a human being... but to me, that just sounds exactly like what a high-tech mini painting robot from the future would say. Merry Christmas Miniacs!
Thanks so much for making this Scott! I've always wanted a Vince Venturella documentary, the guy is a serious inspiration to us all!!! Happy Holidays to you and your family and a happy new year!
HI DANA :)
40-60 hrs painting + 40hr full time job + 40 hrs at 8 hrs of sleep - that's 120-140 hrs already AND then a private life, workout, etc? When!? Does Vincy V's day have 30 hrs or something :o
I did the math. Accounting for Al the hobbying, work, and assuming he sleeps 8 hours a night. He has 12 free hours a week. Let’s assume 10 because of his D&D game, if he works out every other day, with the workout he does, it probably takes around 45 minutes give or take. So down 3 or 4 hours from that.
My conclusion:
Vince is a higher life form that can do nearly the impossible for time in memoriam. It is better we mere mortals stay out of his way, as his kind will someday grind us beneath the gears of true progress.
Or he sleeps less than 8 hours a night, and drinks lots of coffee.
@@variablehunter5090 8 hours of sleep and a good diet and you’ll have the energy to be this busy lol. But some people(me) can’t even fathom being this active lmao.
@@variablehunter5090 Does that time account for walking the three large active dogs, cooking/eating, getting *to* work (assuming he doesn't work full-time from home) and having any kind of social interaction? Even just moving to different rooms in the house or going to the bathroom takes an appreciable amount of time over a week if we're going to calculate down to the hour of 'free' time.
I think this is one of my favorite videos of the year. Not just because the editing and script is solid. But I think this is a letter of appreciation and inspiration to a fellow hobbyist.
It is interesting to see from 2005 to date how there are great personalities of our hobby that in the great and absolute majority have inspired and supported the new generations of artists and hobbyists in our miniature world. I think many of us in the hobby admire people like Vince, for sharing passion and wisdom.
Thank you very much for this video Scott, it's hard sometimes (due to shyness or other barriers) to really thank people like Vince for what they do for the community. This video is a great reflection of that. Inspiration, discipline and fun, what better message than that?
I also hope you have a great Christmas Papa-Scott and a great start to 2023.
The resin damage to your Greyjoy models was a gut punch to watch…. Seeing you talk about them on streams and how they that reignited your passion to play more games was a joy to witness as someone that’s followed your journey for several years now.
Never stop painting Scott! You’re the best!!
it was hurting so much
This may sound a little cringe, but I freaking love you guys. You all inspire me as people, not just youtube painters. These videos where you're not just talking techniques and processes, but more about just the beautiful things in life and the hobby are my favorites. Thank you. Again, I did state at the beginning this would sound a bit cringe, so I did warn ya.
I feel the same way. It's like a group of people that dont know who you are, but you still consider them friends. Weird I guess.
not cringe at all! Pretty based actually
I with you. I needed this vid. ❤
Not cringe at all! We need more positive online interactions! I hope everyone here has some goodness in your lives and I hope your hobbying brings you joy for many years to come!
There is so much love...So much anxiety... So much raw dedication in this video. The strict technomancer that is Vince Venturella giving us honest glimpses into the reality of miniature-painting. The annoyingly talented Jon and Scott. Able to explain the most annoiyngly difficult technique in the most annoiyngly compelling and engageing way possible. The three of you make my youtube-feed so much brighter. I don't want to play favourites and I'm not going to. I love each of you equally. Do not stop doing what you are doing. You are what this hobby needs. You are the lifeblood, you are the constant inspiration that we all need. Thank you.
You're so very welcome 🤗
No one does a painting tutorial like Vincey V. The attention to every minor detail is so appreciated (I feel alot of people forget the small things that come naturally to them ) and really helped me fast track my start in the hobby this year.
Oh look, two of my favourite mini painters. Love to see this, so glad you came together!
I really like Vince Venturella, he helped me a lot in my early stages of hobby painting, which was only a few short years ago, but he really helped take me from simple paint by colors to creating things that wouldn't look out of place being shown off in the FW Horus Heresy catalogue to someone that feels comfortable coming up with his own schemes, using and knowing when to use a variety of styles, an overall sharper quality of miniature painting and most importantly, being able to pick up on things I can improve on and thinking of ways to improve on them on my own, instead of just marveling at something I did, thinking it's the best thing since sliced bread.
Also, a lot more respect for Vince now knowing that he makes an effort to exercise and stay in shape. I like to lift weights pretty regularly and I don't think enough hobbyists get enough physical activity in and it's a shame because it messes with productivity. Vince, if you're reading this as I know you really like to look through comments, consider walking regularly if you already don't, very good for cardio without killing yourself and thank you very much sir for the hundreds of videos on advice, thank you Miniac for giving me a little slice of life for the guy who has taken me so far in my skill for absolutely nothing of material value at all
When you hear someone like Vince saying they haven't accomplished anything, it's equally inspiring and daunting at the same time! Happy holidays everyone and keep painting minis 😊
This video rang so true for me and is exactly what I’m in need of hearing more right now.
Thank you for taking the time to make it and thanks to Vincey V for agreeing to share his world so deeply with all of us.
This was incredibly wholesome. Vince lives rent-free in my head every time I pick up a brush. He told me that he's "nothing special+ but the effect he's had on my mini-painting journey which in turn has affected my outlook of what I can accomplish has been invaluable. Vince needs to be protected and celebrated at all costs
This message was so much more powerful then how to glaze, wet blend, etc. Don't let your hobby become a chore. Enjoy every minute of it! Happy New Year to everyone!
That basement is key to my starting into miniatures. My best friend that introduced me to miniature games grew up playing WHFB with Vince.
Videogames have me trained to expect instant gratification so painting is tough. I'm going to put in some more time next year and try to be more disciplined about getting things done. Hope you both have a great Xmas and New year.
(Sorry about the resin accident btw. That was painful to watch!)
I think it's important to enjoy the process. You get that gratification while painting! This way, it isn't about "getting things done" but more about the art. If you don't enjoy painting (not a problem), that's a different story
I was in the same situation, it's also really refreshing to have a hobby where you have an actual result at the end that you can hold in your hand. I still like achievement hunting in games, it's just a slightly different sense of pride.
I've learned more, both about mini painting and art in general, from watching Vince over the last few years than I did in nearly three decades in the hobby leading up to watching my first Hobby Cheating video. Thanks for featuring a bit more about him, and thanks for taking a minute to throw some perspective on UA-cam vs. Reality in mini painting. This just might be my favorite Miniac video so far just for your closing thoughts. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you!
Vince is a real treasure. And so are you Scott. Enjoy the holidays everyone out there, and all the best for next year.
Beautifully put together video Scott! A wonderful tribute to Vince for sure. :)
I think one of the best things about the hobby as a whole is no matter your current skill level there's always ideas that can be thrown around to inspire one another regardless of you being completely new or a decade veteran of the hobby. Sure, you'll have different end results but as said, it's part of your own journey and I think that's a really important element people often forget. I loved that you touched on how social media or people who hobby full time can put a spin over the everyday hobbyist and the realism of it. So thank you for that and letting people know that's okay to not live up to the glass hype that sometimes gets spun.
I hope you and your family had a great Christmas and wishing you all a happy new year, thanks for a great year of content and looking forward to seeing what 2023 has to bring. :)
I was privileged to take an imperial knight class in Seattle. He’s a true gentlemen, a great teacher, and an asset to the hobby
Great video, I like the videos that pull back the excitement of mini painting youtubers a little and just talk about the expectations. If only to remind somone who ( like me ) isn't as far in their journey in the hobby that it's ok to go at a slow pace. That said Vince's judgmental gaze in the thumbnail makes me feel like I'm not doing things to the best of my abilities and I should be ashamed lol
Great video Scott Happy Holidays :)
Vince watches over all of us 😂
Scott. I never cease to be suprised by you intentional skill as a "film maker" on top of being such a killer teacher and painter. I seriously love watching your content for the storytelling you do. It keeps me invested and unendingly interested when you switch it up, and it never feels gimiccy. It feels like you really care about that part of being on YT. Thank you.
This is such an incredible video, Scott. Such a grounded and thoughtful insight into Vince and your ways of working and thoughts on the hobby. Really enjoyed it and would love to see more, kind of, profiles on other painters mixed with your own reflections like this.
Love the video, such a fantastic intro! You guys keep me in the hobby, life gets busy sometimes. Videos and words like these keep that spark alive.
10/10 video. Vince is the definition of hobby hero to me, great spokesperson, gamer, and painter! FYI rough math for a week as Vince; there are 7 days with 24 hours for 168 hours a week. If he's sleeping about 8 hours a day that's 56 of those hours, 40 for his day job and that golden 60 means that's 156 hours slotted with 12 per week remaining for commuting, eating, exercise, family time, etc. WILD at how efficient he is.
0:22 At first I was like “Whoah is that Jon with a MASSIVE dip in??”
And then I realized, “Oh, nah, that’s just Dale”
This is a video I have needed for awhile now. Both you and Vince are some of my top tubers out there. Keep it up and happy holidays.
As someone who went to college for broadcasting many moons ago, I missed this news style person of interest storytelling that seems to have become passe over the past 10 years or so.
This is also just some great wisdom and inspiration going into a new year of painting.
Mang, I really needed this. I've been in a goddamed funk for the last 6 months for a lot of reasons.
I'm not a competitive painter, but this video reminded me why I love the hobby and why I do it. I miss it. This helped.
Great video! Always a pleasure to see you and Vince together. These painting sessions must be a blast. Happy christmas to you and your family!
I really appreciate how much you've worked to contextualize the hobby. I love watching you guys (and Guy, and Luke, and Jon) but I really appreciate how much you've managed to contextualize how what you generate is different from us. Thank you for that.
Vince must be the most efficient hobbyist around. I love his clips!
That resin spill... I could feel the soul crushing "Noooooo!". Great video again and I hope you make more detailed guides on the blood knights!
Amazing video Scott, so much great advice and love the sentiment you are putting out, its really get easy to let lost in the spectacle/ output element that YT creates. Will try to remember the fun of the journey too.
This is one of the most important messages I've heard in the hobby scene. I really hope this video blows up, and makes its way around the community. Thanks for making this video!
I love this community so much! The level of respect for each other is why you both are some of my favorite to follow, that Jon guy is aight as well I guess ;) lol
Yo the level of documentary storytelling and filmmaking in this video is insane. Well done Scott!
This was both entertaining and extremely well produced Scott. Such a great insight into Vince hobby life encompassed by your own experience and opinion. Also, gotta love those slider shots!
Probably one of the best videos imho you and/or vince have done. Awesome stuff. I enjoy this video more than a lot of your past stuff. The comment about mini entertainment video hits as a lot of youtube mini painting is that. I mean, it's your job though, so I get being a slave to the algorithm to a point. But these sort of real hobby videos are great. Keep it up.
Scott, I think this was one of your best videos to date. The look into Vince's world was fascinating, but I really appreciated the soliloquy at the end--great perspective and very relatable. Best to you and your wife up in your "frozen hellscape" in the new year. Been pretty cold in Buffalo these past few weeks, so I satisfied on the subject for the moment....
Amazing. What an inspiring video featuring two of my favorite mini painters. I think we are all pursuing an understanding of that magic, but realistically, being "done" will never happen. It's about the journey. I almost fell out of my chair when I saw you pour liquid resin on your finished minis...had to show the wife too.
That pillar of a vape pen looming in the foreground at 5:37 is so real. A true hobbiest.
Seeing Vince's passion really is inspiring. I get back home from work and even though I have motivation to paint I lack the energy. This man makes me want to do a paint marathon
I have got back into Hobby Painting after COVID. And I have spent the last year painting an army, and I don't even have enough models done to put them on a table top. But I still find the rare moments I can completely focus on painting are supremely relaxing.
Interesting. Kudos for this one Mr. Miniac! Entertaining, inspirational, motivational and very professional video as always! Hats down to Vince Venturella. Marry Christmas to all the mini-family!
Thanks for this video. You (both you Scott and Vince) are a constant source of support, ideas, and general good feeling about this hobby. I started painting in 1990 at about 12 years old - with terrible results. There was not much you could learn from - your mates making the same mistakes, some Heavy Metal guidelines from GW, or the "old lore" from model train hobbyists. So thank you and the general miniature painting family.
Also: made my day that the outro scared the tar out of my wife :) She'd never heard the Miniac's "paint more minis" yell.
You know, I don't know who else needed to hear that last part about not feeling bad about the hobby hours you can commit but I needed to hear it desperately. Thank you.
Wow man! I haven't watched your videos for a year and just saw this video. Your painting has come soo long in one year. This motivated me to paint all the day today. I will definetly start painting again. Thankzzzz!
One of the best videos you have made. It provided me with perspective on the hobby that I did not have. I was somewhat deflated by the videos I had watched and thought that there was no way I would be able to achieve anything like the quality you,Vincent, John and so many other people produce. Thanks again to you both for such an uplifting insight into the hobby.
This was fantastic. Great advice that also just applies to ANY hobby or interest you have. Particularly about viewing the journey differently and not always just looking at the destination. Both can and should be equally satisfying.
I'm a bit of a hobby parasite. I mostly just wait for the more dedicated painters to find and share idiot-proof methods of making models look good in minimal time and spend my limited hobby time doing those. I salute those of you willing to go all in on miniature painting, because you're making it more fun for the rest of us as you go.
6:25 RIP
They’re with the Drowned God in his resiny halls…
I once based a model in Valhallan Blizzard and used the same brush to touch up a large area of the torso. Crusty paint everywhere when I came back to it in the morning.
So much in this to comment on:
1. I like the idea of adding a workout aspect. If nothing else, just for the need to get up and move around every hour so that I don’t get cramps.
2. 40-60 hours per week is insane. Maybe when the kids are grown up…
3. That resin slosh is brutal 😢. I’m glad you got it on film 😂. Just like you described on TUP, it really was the perfect wave.
Awesome video Scott! I really enjoyed this style of interview and inspiration. Hope you and yours have a great holiday!
Great video, Thank you - and Vince. Happy Hollidays
Great, I thought I was gonna come and see one of Scott’s silly videos that kind of makes me giggle about the hobby, and instead, I get this deeply thoughtful, almost existential on not just hobbying but life in general. Thanks? Oh and happy holidays. Looking forward to a great 2023 of content from you.
Vince is my lodestone of painting knowledge. Whenever I am struggling I search the archives of his channel and find the video that points me in the right direction.
This is a truly inspiring vid with two inspiring mini painters.
Little did I know, when I woke up this morning, how inspiring a simple and fresh video like this would be ! (the editing is pro AF though) As a professionnal miniature painter myself, it was so good to relate and get hyped again by those meaningful and positive little comments throughout the video from you guys. Keep up leading us up the ladder of the hobby goodness. Huge thanks.
Best interview concept ive seen in a long time. Awesome video, thanks Scott (and Vince)
Great video on so many levels.
Also, glad to see your shift into painting more for fun!
Wow. I find it hard to describe, but your videos are something else. Just a totally different level from what other UA-camrs are producing. The unique and engaging personal content, the writing and spoken delivery as well as the pure production value. I really sank into it. Very enjoyable!
This video was awesome. I loved it. I was glued to the screen for 12 min straight. It's a bit wierd when you realize your legends have their own legends, and those legends think they're unmatched and miles behind every one else 😅
You guys are amazing. Thank you for this.
Great video! I really enjoy Vince’s videos and have learned a lot from him. It was cool to see a bit behind the curtain.
Gotta admit Scott, this is probably one of your best and well presented videos to date. Insight into Vince's world as well as his passion has seemed to rub off on you. Taking the time to reflect on why we enjoy doing what we do as a hobby is sometimes the hardest thing to do. Those of us who want to continually get better sometimes forget to enjoy the ride / process that made us get to where we are now. Reflecting on the negatives and not taking time to go HEY MAN, look what I did! Thanks for this one. Now, PAINT MORE MINI's.
Vince is the man, love him and his tuts, always going back to his channel to check some knowledge before I start painting
This was a terribly inspiring video. Thanks for making it, Scott. Well done.
11:27 this is a wonderful video, I enjoy ypur crazy entertainment style vids, but the honesty and encouragement here was really nice to hear. I am brand new to paining and started my first 40k mini painting attempt like 2 weeks ago so it is great to hear my 1 hour here and there between work and family is enough to slowly get into the hobby.
Great video! I loved your take on UA-cam's effect on the hobby. Really cool to hear a larger creator being so transparent about it. That's tegrity!
Vince is literally the GOAT of mini painting. His videos have been essential for becoming a better painter.
Awesome video, certainly inspires to re-engage with mini painting, I was doing well and aimed to do a min of 30min on each of my days off, and worked for awhile. However I acquired a resin printer and printed stuff to practice techniques on, that worked for a bit but now have a box of printed minis plus a SSD with mini waiting things have stalled! Just need to get the journey mindset back and this video has certainly made me realise that again.
This last monologue at the end is a whole vibe for me. After months of learning how to use a 3d printer combined with boxes of orks I got for Christmas last year (including the holiday box last year) I had in total like 90+ boyz n elites, 4 hqs, a proxy for a gorkanaught, and 4 vehicles..... yea Ive felt a bit overwhlemed. But given what I have going on in my life and not putting too much pressure on myself, I just finished all the troops and elites after like 4 months of painting when I can (minus the bases but Imma do them all at once when I finish everything else). Content like yours, Vinces and Jons have been helping me a lot a I appreciate the hell out of yall
Wonderful shots and sound puts Vince in a real new light…love this episode. 😊 thanks for that
Thanks for this one Scott. I started this hobby back in August after getting my first resin printer (which was replaced last week). I was in the local hobby store in the first three months so much that they joked about charging me rent. I said the second trip in that it was a gateway. Printer leads to minis leads to painting leads to more minis leads to more paints leads to larger printer leads to myminifactory leads to tribes, leads to Patreon... and so on. Jon led to you, and you both lead to VInce and Adam, and Dana, and Brent, and so on.
Thanks to all of you for murdering my disposal income on a regular basis ;)
I really enjoy your delivery and the quality and professionalism that you AND Vince put into these videos. I also REALLY enjoy seeing the Camaraderie and the obvious friendships you have in the in the Warhammer/Gaming community, I’m envious. Wish the historical miniatures world had what you guys do.
The message in this video really hit me. This kind of mentality really applies to all facets of life and it's that shared struggle that validates my experience as real and meaningful.
I keep coming back to this video for inspiration, well done!
That was a great video. You guys both rock and inspire me so much. Thank you.
Brilliant Video, I've spent the last three years painting a sisters of battle army to be proud of for a lifetime and have gained so much experience painting flesh tones and casting bases which will also last my whole life!
Very profound and valuable insight. The way you ran with the “road” metaphor…beautiful dude. The Hobbit intro was a nice touch too.
Love Vince.
It's criminal how underrated his channel is.
When I started painting years ago, Sam was my favorite painter. Everything he did, I 'got' it. Over the last six months though, I've had to reconsider as I've continued painting, as how Vince approaches his 'work' and time has bled into how I paint more than any single content creator on the platform. The man is brilliant.
I love this video so fucking much. The last two have been fantastic.
Vince's words remind of an old saying from some Drum & Bugle corps (forget which one). Their motto was something to the effect of "in the relentless pursuit of the edge". The magic is something that is always just out of reach and when you get closer, it has moved farther away again.
Gaining mastery of a thing always reveals more of the potential of the thing. This is a source of joy. For we can always dream.
A god amongst men, also wow you should do more of these kind of painter spotlight videos. Very well shot too
Vince and Miniac have been my painting teachers since day one! Ya'll out here inspiring folks and inspiring us newbs to "get better"
Would love to see some more content like this where you interview and dig into lessons from other hobbyists! Great work.
I am so sorry for the accident where you spilled the resin. OMG! I can so relate to this, I get in a hurry, and BAM.... Then I feel like an idiot. But keep going, I love your stuff.
Vincent has helped my painting no end and he responds to comments. How when he is so busy an amazing painter and consistent nice bloke. Merry Christmas everyone.
This is so true, I do it all time. Looking at it broken down to 30mins a day, as Vinnie said, is chance to practice. Season wishes to you and all. Thanks for all the content this year.
What hobbyists love are peace and quiet... and a good 5/0 ergonomic detailing brush. Or a new airbrush... or even a cheap makeup brush for dry brushing.
This might just be my favorite Miniac video of the year, I am glad you are willing to share dumb mistakes as that makes me feel okay about making dumb mistakes myself. :)
This is great. I'd love an hour by hour breakdown for a whole standard week to see how Vincie V manages his time. I need to watch and learn from the master
You guys are making such a huge impact on this community (Jon included
This is a great message to us all in any hobby! Do what you enjoy for as long as you enjoy it, and don't try to measure yourself against someone doing it for a living. Thank you for this video!
Great video! Always enjoy your candid videos and perspective on the hobby. And Vince, wow...he's been a legend in my eyes for a while now, but I'm blown away. How the HECK do you not get hair models with THREE GORGEOUS golden retrievers? Mine doesn't even come to my paint desk, and I kid you not, her hair just falls all over it like fuzzy snow.
I'm less than a minute in and I'm already 100% convinced that this man is an alien.
Not judging, my space-dude :)
Great video. Vince is my favorite teacher when it comes to mini painting and this is a great insight.
Amazing video Scott. Love how you keep finding ways to make unique and entertaining videos. Appreciate your efforts !
