The day Doug reviews Caillou will be both a day of achievement, and a day of mourning.
He should make a movie based around that, like how James did with ET. Or better year, a video game so AVGN would have to review it

I grew up watching Barney and I wholly agree with Critic's criticism of Barney only being happy. I never paid attention to it as a little kid but I can see why I don't remember him as much as I did Arthur, Thomas and Friends, the Peanuts franchise, Sesame Street and other children's show characters that presented more than one emotion.
It's hilarious how true that Daniel Tiger is more relatable and he can't even change his facial expression. He had it all with his voice.
Agreed.
As far as I remember, it was the kids he was with that learned lessons and had character arcs in the episodes, Barney was just their mentor or the voice of reason. I'm not gonna act like the show is anything special, but I think it worked fine for what it was. Most definitely not on the level of Arthur or Sesame Street, but it was harmless.
@@jongon0848 Agree to disagree, my fellow UA-camr.
See? At the end of the Day, we can forgive Captain Jake for being different from everyone else. Back in the Day, he is a Pirate Diego, but he became more different as the years go by.
Same here. My brother and I used to adore Barney when we were kids. I can't really speak for him, but I remember as I got older, I just grew out of him. While I could easily go back to other shows I watched like Arthur, Rugrats, Disney shows, Hey Arnold, Animaniacs and still love them, Barney I can't find anything charming or memorable about him.
No dino’s were harmed in the making of this movie
But the audience was
mentally harmed
No, the audience was only harmed after the movie was made.
Slurp
Tiijn Luute the audience was shouting DIE BARNEY DIE!!!
I used to write these fucked up stories when I was in high school. One of them was about Barney getting busted for embezzling the show's funds and tax evasion. Now I see that I was on to something.
Fun fact: while I was studying for my folklore studies degree back in 2008, I came across a very detailed research paper in the archive that was all about Barney hate and how it influenced children's folklore.
I swear I'm not making this up.
The paper's theory about why Barney got so much hate compared to similar shows was that Barney came across as so insincere that no one old enough to have developed an ounce of cynicism could tolerate the character.
I didn't develop my cynicism til about 8 when my brother died, even then Barney was one of the few childhood icons that kept me from becoming truly cripplingly depressed.
SCIENCE BIIIETCH!
Sorry to hear that. That must have been hard for you at such a young age. I hope you're okay now.
Well isn't that something lol. I loved Barney when I was little and ended up being more of a 'Expect the worst, hope for the best' kind of person
I can easily believe that. As a little kid, I wasn't obsessed with Barney, but I didn't mind him. Now that I'm a teenager, I have nothing but distaste for the character and how he talks down to little kids.
😂 I’m sorry but Doug’s impression of Barney KILLED me! So accurate 😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Yes!!
The thing with Edward and Spongebob is that while their general mood is happy-go-lucky, we know they’re more than capable to express a range of emotions in the appropriate circumstances.
Yeah there were PLENTY of episodes where SpongeBob lost his temper getting sick of Squidward being lazy, became depressed when he realizes his negligence to Gary led him to run away, or was afraid when he procrastinated to do his homework and was almost out of time.
@@cartoonmaster2401 Yeah, and in Edward's final episode, she showed huge surprise upon learning where her father was and debated whether to go to him or stay with the Bebop crew.
Who’s Edward? Did SpongeBob do a crossover with Ed Edd n Eddy?
@@jacksongibbs8998close but no Edward is a character from the anime series Cowboy Bebop
Of course, Cowboy Bebop isn't for kids, but the rule still applies
Ed is positive, but not in an unbelievable way. Just like SpongeBob, I thought she was really charming and is probably my second favorite character because of that (Spike is my #1, of course. Go Blum!)
"Barney, this is SERIOUS. Stop smiling!"

I never liked Barney as a kid, I always preferred to watch the Backyardigans.
Now there's a good show
Oh hell yeah
@S Games26 yay I loved that show when I was little and some part of me still does
Especially because the Backyardigans had much better child singers with FAR BETTER songs than Barney and Friends, lasted only four seasons in six years without going through seasonal rot, and is much more diverse because of how about every episode had a different “music genre of the day”.
You mean the best show ever?
"Oh no he fell.... By accident"

If Trey Parker had directed this movie, that scene would have been another of Kenny deaths.
Doug's face cracks me up with that line.

One thing I've noticed about Barney is that he's anti-character development, what with his one emotion.
Take Bob The Builder for example; one of the characters, Lofty The Crane, is generally timid, especially of heights, but there was one episode where he faced that fear, by rescuing Spud The Scarecrow from a tree branch, which was from a bridge. That's character development, something Barney goes against.
I remember that episode. I watched it all the time as a little kid.
So you’re saying that a CRANE has better character development than Barney
@@IcyDiamond Yes. Because he was pretty much forced into ignoring his fear of heights, thus going out of his comfort zone.

Also hearing Mister Rogers in that short segment is the emotional peak of the review. The kindest, gentlest man and the sweetest, fuzziest bird. The perfection of kids' programming.
That's the power of Sesame Street.
That was when Mr Hooper died. The actor died for real and they decided to confront it rather than just sweep it under a rug.

Fun story, right?
I'm ashamed to admit I saw a few Barney episodes in my childhood, because there was nothing else on. I was happy to join the I Hate Barney bandwagon when it happened, those songs were loads of fun.
And I never thought about Barney like that, but you've pretty much nailed it. Sesame Street and Mr. Rogers actually taught kids how to navigate their bad feelings, while Barney just said "smile and sing a bunch of stupid songs and you'll magically feel better!" Like I remember the episode where a girl had a bad day and that's all he did, just smile and sing. I'd hate to imagine him trying to coax a kid through the death of a loved one. There's a reason the Baloney and Kids sketch on Animaniacs had even the Warners begging for mercy.
I also saw a few episodes as a kid. I only stuck around becuase I actually liked the green Dino. Her costume is smaller and the face is easier on the eyes. But ohhh boy once I switched to mr Rogers and Sesame Street, I kicked Barney to the fucking curb. Even tellatubbies was less weird.

"His shows do not assist children in learning to deal with negative feelings and emotions. You mean the reboot show
@@IcyDiamond I don’t think it’s a reboot as much as a more in-depth look at the Neighborhood of make believe. Although the show is decent in it’s on right it just doesn’t seem to have any charm. It’s a decent show for kids that teaches good lessons but I think that anybody want to watch it should start with Mr. Rogers neighborhood before Watching Daniel Tigers neighborhood
I remember the critic taking on Thomas the Tank Engine. And yes Thomas the Tank Engine even has different characters and different emotions .
24:57 It's almost like that's literally just some random Koala puppet they bought from the store

Fun Fact: At 20:02 one of the characters in the background is wearing a Southwest Airlines costume. I never noticed that, until just now. It’s like some weird product placement.
10:35 Poor Barney. Even he can’t handle himself anymore.
Maybe Barney is actually stoned out of his mind on the Joy drug from “We Happy Few”.
Are we gonna discuss the fact that the green dinosaur showed up for 10 seconds just to break the 4th wall and never came back?
It's like they forgot to include her so they quickly put her in a scene in the last minute.
Even she realized how stupid the movie was
I watched this movie A LOT when I was a kid, and I can tell you that she came back once during the parade asking the people in it where her blanket it was, and again when she caught the egg with her blanket after Cody tripped and sent it flying. After that second instance, she was in it until the last 5 minutes
Wait? Why?
Her name is Baby Bop. I feel very uncomfortable seeing you guys call her "green dinosaur" lol

NC (As dad): My God you laughed at that? I mean I found it funny because I'm drunk. What's your excuse?
Me: He shouldn't be driving if he's drunk.
NC: They see there's an apple festival after... changing drivers off screen.
Me: ... the movie listens!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@@JoshuaWebbYT :-)
20:55 I didn’t know Pee-Wee Herman was in this movie
Although, I can 100% agree, with the dichotomy of Barney vs Childrens shows who can take on serious topics and treat children with more maturity...
For this movie, im too blinded by nostalgia. There were so many scenes that made me smile, even while you were bashing it.
I miss simpler times.
Mister Rogers I can deal with, but you had to bring up Mister Hooper's death. Dude.
He kinda did.
And it's was just a Tuesday for Critic..
yeah, that was a one two punch of "i'm gonna go cry in a corner for a bit..."
...
Mister Hooper?😟

So... nowhere?
I don’t get it.
WHERES MY FUCKING GODDAMN WHITE BLANKIE, BITCH?!?!?
Wait why
Nostalgia critic: mentioned word girl
Me: NOW THATS NOSTALGIA
Yeah same
Arthur: Discussed serious emotional issues like PTSD.
Sesame Street: Discussed serious emotional reactions like grief.
Barney: Discussed serious emotional repercussions of constant ketamine abuse.
"I don't recall ever working that into my rhetoric."
Every politician ever.
Huh
Godzilla rules
Pbs kids
Like Rush Limbaugh! (Cause we all know the connection between him and Barney...)
UA-cam: “This video contains a paid promotion”
Me: YESSS I CANT WAIT
Hahaha. Yeah 😄
Nostalgia critic is the only channel where I enjoy promotions too🤗
Terrible Writing Advice and the CPUCS also use sponsorships cleverly and entertainingly, but the Nostalgia Critic uses them great as well.
When the video first played, I was talking along with it going "This video brought to you by STAMPS DOT COM" but it subverted my expectations and said Hello Fresh.
Ya got me, Critic. Ya got me.
+Joey Finton If you like the product/service make sure to use our promo codes and check them out
Cody: Real dinosaurs don't talk and are not any real dinosaurs any more.
Me: You'll know better in 2001 ;)
#JP3
That just makes me think Barney was actually grown in Jurassic Park or world and it was just to have a promotional character to attract younger audiences
That is brilliant! (I watched JP3 on HBO back in 2001 and loved it, BTW.)

Thanks Critic. My repressed memories appreciate you.
"Is this T-Rex PEE?!"
"..."
"Where'd ya get it?"
"You DON'T wanna know..."
Why couldn't they have the actors of Paul Kirby and Amanda Kirby in this movie as the parents so when their kids do go missing, they can obnoxiously shout their names through a megaphone.
Also, put the Spinosaurus in it too.

When I watched this with a friend because he had to watch it with his brother because his mom was crazy. Well, when we got to the log part and Barney said to help the fly I put my brain on full power imagination mode and imagined them crashing and dying, sadly, it didn’t work.
I hate you, you hate me
I shot Barney in the knee
When the shot went 'BANG' and Barney hit the floor,
No more purple dinosaur.
Ever heard Weird Al Yankovick's "Oh, Boy, Barney's On Fire" song? That song was hilarious!
Here's another one!
"I love you, you love me
Let's get an axe and kill Barney
Let his big fat body lying on the floor,
No more purple dinosaur."
Mine was “with a knife and a gun and a giant two by four”
Jeez, kids are awful.
The one I remember from school was:
"I hate you. You hate me.
Let's team up and kill Barney.
With a big shotgun chase him up a tree.
BOOM! No more purple dinosaur for me."
I love you all lol
I remember there was an episode of Barney where all the kids get a letter of the alphabet and have to find an animal who’s name starts with that letter. Baby bop or whatever her name is got the letter U and grabbed a toy unicorn and Barney said “Unicorns aren’t real!” And 6 year old me just stared at the screen with my jaw dropped in horror.
Now that I think about it, a purple dinosaur told a toddler green dinosaur that unicorns weren’t real. Trippy.
You know, does it really matter whether unicorns are real or not? It's still an animal that starts with the letter U. I can't think of many real animals that start with that letter.
I remember that, strangely.
😧 Dang.... Barney shattering children's dreams about unicorns. Why would say that out loud? Doesn't this guy run on imagination? 🤨
@@LilyZerep He dropped out of character...by accident.
I mean, how many animals start with "U"? I guess urchin, but how many kids would see that, point at the tv, and go: "Ooh! I know what that is!!"
The fact that Barney speaks French is probably the most sane thing in this movie
It’s also the least believable thing in the film.
My generation was lucky. We had Bear in the Big Blue House.
We had both and I remember that because my sister loved bear in the big blue house.
4:34 I'm sure Applejack and her family from MLP would give anything to go to that festival.
6:03 - 9:54 Proof that all the anti-Barney stuff in the 90's had very legitimate reasoning behind it. The lesson. If you're going to make a kids show, one of the key elements is having the characters deal with various emotions.
owenpeterson at the very least they have to be able to properly emote. Even the muppets can convey various emotions from a wide spectrum.
@@austinmorrison6953 Kermit is one of the best examples of that, based on what I've seen.
A Barney and My Little Pony crossover would be amazing
Jareth The Goblin King how would that work?
@@IcyDiamond Ok, well somebody could write a fanfic where Barney gets sucked into a portal to Equestria where he gets to face off with a dangerous enemy for the first time, and he gets to help everypony out and bond with them, but part of the conflict is that most of the mane six find it odd he's always happy, even Pinkie Pie finds it odd, towards the end when the mane six is scared and hopeless Barney steps in and encourages them to be brave and save the day and they realize about Barney is although hes not sad or anything he shows concern by cheering people up and helping out
Barney: (Knees Doug in the nuts). He’s the Nostalgia Critic and he’s gonna remember that.
Thug Life!!!
Love ya, Dad
For some reason the joke at 25:54 had me CRYING!! 😂 I remember watching this movie when I was a kid so most of it had me cackling
Barney and the children standing around the egg for a few seconds is the dumbest but best gag ever.
Can we get a ten hour loop of that please?
I'm...actually surprised at the amount of Barney hate, but then again, I really did grow up with him. After a while I remember growing a bit of a dislike, but even up till now, I remember him as a...sort of annoying old friend.
But hold up, you wanna talk about Barney being CREEPY? Just look up that recently posted Barney documentary and check his "Backyard Gang" persona. That shit gave me nightmares as a child, which would explain why I'm so OK with his "modern" look.
Holy shit, you are right!
You mean 'The Dinosaur Sensation"? Oh yeah that was a scary design dude. I watched "Three Wishes" after my wisdom teeth extraction, and it's quite an episode. Too bad we have to wait two months for part 2
I thought the Barney hate was just one of those unexplained things like people who hate comic sans.
To be fair when it comes to the show, I didn't hate Barney half as much as I DESPISED Baby Bop!
I grew up with Barney too and I had no idea what the “Backyard Gang” was so I looked it up... it’s 3 in the morning and I’m sobbing 😭
That kid just insulted Barney and all he did was...
LAUGH
Clearly Barney was too thick-skinned for that little fucker's barb to get him, and yes; I am well aware that I just defended Barney the Dinosaur...
Oh that wasn't him laughing the insult off, that's his "You're going to disappear real soon" laugh. Nothing will save him.... Nothing.
Even MONOKUMA would correct him.
He wasn't laughing at the kid's insult, he was laughing at the thought of torturing him in his sex dungeon.
Barney : *Laugh*
