Remember a sitch in time when Kim was trying out for cheerleading and although Bonnie hated her she still let her on the team proper because she nailed the try outs? What happened to that?
The logic of Bonnie being a person who wants to be on top, but will suck it up in some way that’s comedic for us and allows for the demonstration of actual imagery that makes sense was one of the first things the writers were told to get rid of.
Yeah, watching this live-action Bonnie compared to the OG Bonnie felt more like a caricature of what the character actually was. Yes, she could be a snide, petty pain in the ass, especially to Kim out of everyone, but the show seemed pretty aware that was 100% due to Bonnie being jealous. But also, Bonnie could at least begrudgingly acknowledge Kim's talent and skill. In fact, if the live-action movie was supposed to be some weird moral about jealousy, why not just evolve Bonnie a bit further and have her be Kim's new, begrudging sidekick? Have them be frenemies rather than straight up enemies. She could have been the Kate Sanders to Kim's Lizzie McGuire

Wtf. Athena has so many Mary Sue self insert red flags. A fan who can do everything better than the main character and has a dramatic evil twist with a sacrifice at the end? That's just... so bad.
HermitFox Making the Mary Sue elements key to the plot does not excuse them being present to begin with. TV shows and movies have handled someone dealing with someone else taking their role in the team much more subtly than this. McKay in Stargate Atlantis was getting unsettled that his parallel world counterpart actually got on with the other people in the expedition, but they missed original flavour Rodney McKay as egotistical as he was.
Here is my idea for how to rewrite the plot of the Kim Possible movie: the movie starts off as normal with Kim and Ron rescuing the scientist followed by the recreation of the cartoon’s intro. After that, we cut to Shego breaking Drax out of prison. They head back to their hideout and after a bit of their usual banter, they begin to plot how to take down Kim once and for all. We then cut to Kim and Ron showing up to class a few minutes late because of their last mission. Shortly afterwards, Athena is presented to the class as the new girl. Later that day, after school, Kim sees Athena being picked on by Bonnie. So Kim springs into action and stands up for Athena. Kim then invites Athena to come hang out with her and Ron. Athena then reveals to Kim she is a big fan of Kim and shows her Kim and Ron cosplay with Ron as a dog. Rather than say he wants to be a dog when he grows up, Ron would say he had no idea how cute he would look as a dog. We then get a montage of Kim hanging out with Athena, training her, and giving her a makeover. After that ends, we cut to Kim, Ron, and Athena walking home from school when they get alerted by Wade that Drax is planning on releasing a toxin that would place the entire town under mind control. So the trio set off to stop Drax. However, upon arriving on the scene Kim and Ron end up in a death trap. Luckily, Athena manages to rescue them and stop Drax in the nick of time becoming the hero of the town. However, rather than get jealous, or upset about it, Kim is just happy for Athena. We then cut to an awards ceremony where Athena is receiving an award for saving the town. Suddenly, Drax shows up and snatches Athena. Kim and Ron try to stop him, but they end up getting tricked by Shego allowing Drax to get away with Athena. Kim and Ron head to Kim’s house and tell Kim’s parents what happened. So Kim’s mom, along with Kim’s grandmother, went with Kim and Ron to rescue Athena. When Kim went into where Athena is being held captive, she is surprised to find that it looks like a normal teen girl’s room. Athena then admits to Kim that she is actually an android created by Drax. Drax’s plan was to get Kim to befriend and train Athena and the plot to release a toxin that would place the town under mind control was just a setup to test the skills Athena learned from Kim. Athena does not know what Drax’s ultimate goal is but knows it can’t be good. Drax then takes Athena away and places Kim into a death trap. Luckily, Ron, with help from Rufus, helps Kim escape. (By the way, in this rewrite, Rufus accompanies Ron throughout the film rather than be discovered in a lab at some point in the movie). The rest of the film will play out as normal.

"Was your mother a grappling hook?" is something I'd hear Drakken tell Kim after he sees her using it *one* too many times on missions. That, and the "No, I'm committed now. *IT MUST BE GRAPPLING HOOK,"* bit after she shows up with something different. I'd kill to see Kim's response.
When the thirty something year old youtube critic comes up with better lines and story on accident than the writers can come up with, you know you're making a shit movie.
It’s weird that Disney who is focusing on pushing girls in their media, have decided that their female leads are either, boring super people with no interesting qualities, or stereotypical girls that are completely unfit for their roles?
Who the hell is Athena? Where's Monique ? You know, Kim's best friend who occasionally fights along side her (albeit she can't fight on the level Kim can)? She was a very cool character who sort of balanced out Ron's goofy-ness and incompetence. Where the hell is she? Side note: I'm very near-sighted and thought Athena was naked from the waist down at 30:40 :/
Monique was a fun character & not just a token ethnic friend. She was no mission sidekick like Ron, but she was Kim’s voice of reason in her daily life at school and work. Plus Monique also got to have some fun chemistry with Ron particularly in the science partner episode

I remember it the same way, in cartoons she came off as a high school, in the live action it's like she's a junior high girl who is is just at the beginning of puberty and hasn't hit hear growth spurt yet. It's weird cringy and worse of all childish.
Someone pointed out that Disney channel movies seem to have this odd problem where the characters are “16” or “14” or “18” but talk and act like they’re 8 or 10
For one thing, Kim Possible was never "random citizen can pick her out of the crowd" famous. And I guess it begs the question, if you are constantly sent on missions with high end spy gear to help governments, the world, or even just prevent thefts but not much undercover stuff, are you a spy or just an altruistic mercenary that doesn't accept money, only networking?
Is it that the fans have been too neglected to let professionals redo their favorite properties? Because, if so, then I worry about Hollywood, especially Disney's future.

probably the most impactful thing Doug Walker ever said: Kim possible was an empowering show because it didn't tell a story about a girl who was a hero, it told a story about a hero who was a girl. THANK YOU, that's the main problem of a lot of movies trying to be "empowering" nowadays
Same with proud family it was a nice show with funny comedy and nice morals whose characters just happened I be mostly black. Yes they hit the notes they had to (segregation, kwanza etc) but they never preached about it and made to applicable to everyone. Hell the kwanza episode ended with the twist that the “spirits” of the holiday ended up getting the proofs to help a white family something I’m sure modern SJWs would bitch about
I feel like this about most shows and once had a discussion with someone who insisted the new doctor who needs to be a woman. I said the writers aren't ready to make a natural feeling doctor who, because if we think about good female protagonists im TVShows, we have more bad than good ones. The few I remember being good are Jessica Jones, Kim Possible and I don't know, maybe Buffy? We're still in a phase where we keep doing the "oh she's a girl" thing, with a weird crush, a bestie and cries over bullshit. It's not a person, but a stereotype.
I agree. I've always believed that the best to make a strong female character is not bring attention to the fact they're a girl. Make it so the universe doesn't give a shit if they're a girl the audience won't give a shit either, but if you constantly bring up the fact they're a girl then the character is immediately weakened because it seems like your using the "strong female character" as a crutch.
@@bensell982 absoltely. In that sense, even Sailor Moon is better than most female protagonists. She has a personality, flaws and throughout the show actually some growth. She was a girl in many stereotypical ways, but there's nothing wrong with "girly" but with thinking that's all the personality a girl ever has.
I need to know why they decided to make Kim play soccer. Cheer leading was like...a major part of her. It showed how she balanced her kickass spy side with her high school femininity side. Honestly, Kim was pretty basic when it came to the school portion of the episodes, but that's just who she was and it was totally fine. Idk if the soccer was like an empowerment thingie to prove girls can play sports,, but... there a girls who are fine with being cheerleaders and thats fine too
I agree. As proven in the clips Doug showed us, cheerleading not delicate femininity. Those stunts take real badass skill and were a part of what made Kim so strong and athletic.
@@welcometothemetaverse2523 Oops! Yeah you're right cheerleading isnt very delicate, but it is a stereotypical basic girl sport. I was trying to say that the cheerleading showed how she was an athletic spy while also being an athletic girly girl?
Especially since its fairly rare to have any sort of positive portrayal of cheerleaders in kid's media. Usually they either possess no brain cells or are a mutant offshoot of vampires that subsist on human tears instead of blood.
Kim was like "Yeah, I wanted to give you confidence and motivate you to be a better version of yourself. But not that much, now I really want you to be worst"
And wean you get more attention then her, because you where a better spy then her. She gets whiny and upset and ruins the mission because you prove to her that you can also be a good spy.
As a big KP fan who still watches the show, Kim was never jealous of others because she built others up instead of tearing them down. She admired other people for their strengths, and that everyone is special in their own way, Ron included. She loved when she could compete with people on her own level or above because she always liked a challenge.
Same here, the Kim possible that I know and remembered won't give a flying fuck about not being popular like Bonnie for two reasons: #1 "main protagonist getting annoyed with someone who brags about how popular they are" cliche #2 she's more focused on saving the world from the forces of evil than being popular So that's much to it and agreed with you 💯
Something Kim Possible as a show did was establish Kim as being a headstrong, independent person with a heart of gold and gradually reveal her insecurities later but have her overcome them in her own way. She's initially presented as picturesque, but not flawless.
I think that's really the key to making an empowering female hero. Stop focusing on how, "they're a girl. They're so different from other girls. Oh wow look A GIRL DON'T YOU FEEL INSPIRED NOW THEY'LL DO MAKE OVERS AND WHINE AND GET JEALOUS DON'T YOU RELATE TO HER GIRLS?" Just make a good hero that happens to be a girl. Heck, just make a good character. If you don't draw attention to her gender, and the audience won't feel the need to either.
Tess Hawkins That’s how I feel any movie trying to make an empowering figure to be. Just focus on making a good character or hero, that just happened to be a girl, or black, or Hispanic, or gay, or whatever demographic you want market to without making your pandering so blatant.
*watches the cheerleader montage*. Why the heck are cheerleaders always shoved into the dumb or mean girl cliche? Their freaking awesome, work tirelessly for their routines, and put their bodies through torturous exercises. They deserve so much more in pop culture!
Not to mention they have to be really skilled and brave, I have seen what can happen when some of their stunts go wrong, even the less difficult stunts that regular high school cheerleaders - not the ones who cheerlead competitively like in colleges - do, and holy *crap* those can be some life-altering (or ending) injuries!
Maybe because, A.) The creators were losers in high school whom were bullied or dumped by the worse cheerleaders in the team, or B.) Creativity deficit.
Because the cheerleader type was written by non-athletes in a time when cheerleaders were at the top of the teenage girl hierarchy and those non-athletes were generally obsessive loners. And once a type like this starts, it tends to stick. Edit: plus teenagers tend to clique-ish anyway (more than just the human norm) so when you have a cohesive unit (cheer team) it's easy for them to fall into that domineering pattern that the trope appeals to.
Dude, there’s a reason you make the cheerleader the hero: Buffy, Card Captor Sakura and Kim do all these insane feats on the daily while having stuff thrown/shot at them. Being tossed in the air a few times by you squad mates? So not the drama
Exactly. She doesn’t fight crime for the glory & the fame but because it’s the right thing to do. People like people who do the right thing, not for the fame unless they’re supposed to be written like that from their backstories.
@Russell Jordan Yes and yes. Why isn't she a cheerleader? Why all of the unnecessary flips? Also, an agenda is NEVER a good basis for a movie. What a dumpster fire!

At least Goldbergs has way better writing and is ten times more funny. I guess if I'd want anyone to be Ron, it'd be him, but man the kid deserved bit better of a script (I say kid but he's nearly the same age as me.......)
exactly! I agree wholeheartedly to the pandering to "girl power" it gets on my nerves so much. Like for example, and this is an unpopular opinion- But I really didn't like the whole girl power moment in endgame. Yes those woman warriors are awesome, but they don't need a "look at us, we're empowered woman" to BE awesome. They are ALL warriors- and just that. It doesn't or at least shouldn't matter if they are a boy or a girl or something else.
Honestly that line up took me right out of the movie and what I got wasn’t a feeling of empowerment. It was a message of insecurity. One of them yelling ‘we’re women and look we’re strong because...we’re here?’ It would have landed better if maybe some of them had a relationship or connection that built up before. I mean hell! That was what all the damn origin movies where for! So when Thor sees Hulk he cheers and goes ‘I know him from work!’ And it’s an awesome line and hilarious moment. Loki wanting to leave because he is having some ‘punny god’ flashbacks were beautiful. But when the women stand in some weak lineup of a photo shoot girl power...honestly what connection? They could either look at each other and say ‘what’s your name?’ Or ‘you have boobs like me so you’re cool.’ I would have rather seen the girls fighting next the people they knew and had been in movies with before and passing the Spider kid between them while kicking ass and taking names. Just snip that lineup out and we’re good. Drawing that kind of attention to the female heroes like that just undermined what they were trying to do.
I also don't like the whole thing that women and girls have to be tomboyish, like unfeminine things and be ultra-snarky to be considered empowering. Why can't girls and women who are polite and like traditionally feminine things also be empowering?
@@rogue7723 I feel vice versa tbh. Always when there is a scene of a girl feeling confident and powerful, she is walking in a dress in slowmotion....why can't a girl be displayed as confident in a cool alternative outfit or something? But yes, there should be a balance. Just like in real life, every girl (and guy) is different
Anyone else seeing this and remembering an old Kim Possible episode called "And the Mole Rat will be CGI" which was about a moronic director trying to make an awful movie based on Kim?
I have another question: why everyone are assholes for no reasons? I swear, it's so gratuitous and forced that I busted a rib when Shego laughed along with the whole school! It was so bad I couldn't believe they kept the scene...
This movie was literally a self insert fanfiction. Right down to Athena being an emo re-color of Kim, having a "sad" backstory, everyone loving her, and all the other characters being dumb to make the fan character smarter, braver, and overall better in comparison.
Ok, hear me out. In the video, he says that the actors of the OG Kim posable should have played the mom and dad. So how about instead of the movie being about Kim. It's about Kim and Ron's daughter and her trying to be like her parents well going through high school. that way it's a continuation well keeping to the original and being new with new characters.
@@terrencejsmith7160 When some people (girls) write female characters they only focus on being a girl, everything else "yep she can do it." but I agree even some writers said it beforei instead of writing male or female or white black asian etc. just focusing on writing a "good" character and let the actor/actress play it out is always better. I think Will Smith in Independence Day done exactly that.
That's a problem recent characters had in movies. With characters like Rey or Captian Marvel it feels like they can do no wrong and are superior to the other heroes just because they are female. While classic and beloved characters like Sarah Connor or Ripley were good characters and even you can replace them with a man and it wouldn't affect that much to the story
How come there weren't any adults supervising the soccer tryout to prevent Kim from being appointed equipment manager instead of a player? Doesn't the coach make those decisions?
Dude are you seriously asking why there no logic in a live action Disney movie? (Note this isn't me hateing on Disney this is just me saying that these movies (or any form of fiction really) don't follow regular logic)
The truth one realizes as they scroll through the comments to see what other folks are saying to avoid the cringed imagery. Then they stumble across this comment.
So why does Kim's mom go on the mission in the climax, but not her dad? Isn't her dad and Drakken college roommates, so they had some connection. The worst part of this movie is Disney didn't air any re-runs of the old show so the younger generation doesn't know about Kim Possible, let alone the references. And they changed so much from the show and its continuity much to the disdain of the older generation who grew up with it. The movie aired a couple times, then disappeared; so who was this movie made for?

If you ask me they didn't show the original show because they were trying to fool any and all new faces that THIS was Kim Possible, because they knew that if they saw the original and THEN this, it would be adding kindling to the already raging inferno of pissed off people who don't like getting tricked into watching garbage.
We had plenty of live action Dipper and Wendy in one sight gag in the Weirdmageddon finale. It worked because it was a visual gag, things were going to hell and the show has a unique art style that wouldn’t work in love action.
Because it takes more effort to animate. You have to put more heart into it then just reading a script and showing up to set. Animators are involved in a lot more of the production than a simple actor is and can really let their imaginations run wild, even with a small budget. They know the storyboarding and the set and the characters intimately due to how long it takes to make each thing real and beautiful. I don't think kid actors or even most adult actors get that into it. And that dedication separates the great from the meh, hence why you have your Tom Hanks's and Ryan Reynolds's and Julie Andrews's and the like. Plus, you're working with a group of people towards one goal. You're not relying on a sole kid's "talents" and abilities. (Sorry, that was long. I am just feeling all kinds of righteous fury at this movie! 😤)
Because the creative team behind the cartoon had to do something that stood out enough for people to like it and the creative team behind the movie just thought "this is just for kids, right?".
How is that a bad thing the actress is freaking gorgeous and the movie doesn't look that bad. I mean at least it looks like they put in a decent amount of effort into it.

They definitely didn’t. Ron on the other hand I can say his character is fine. Shego and Drakken are okay but not as intimidating as they were in the show. Drakken was funny, like extremely funny, but he was still intimidating and threatening when needed. Shego was obviously the same thing. Kim…no…just the worst. Bonnie too. Seeing that bit with Drakken while Doug talked about those two acting really pinpointed a big issue with this - and likely others - Disney remake: A lot of it tries to forget it's a cartoon. And that MIIIIIIIIGHT work, with quality writers and all (this had none), except you've got parts that totally remember it's a cartoon like Todd as Drakken, Oswalt's goofy Demento thing... This creates too much inconsistency and destroys suspension of disbelief. Essentially, I don't *believe* that this Drakken exists in the same world as this Kim. @@BlueWoWTaylan Exactly. If they wanted to adapt a fairly silly spy cartoon, they should have done that - and Drakken's actor did - but instead they tried to pretend they weren't adapting a cartoon.

That’s one of the best jokes I’ve ever heard
"Was your mother a grappling hook?" is something I'd hear Drakken tell Kim after he sees her using it *one* too many times on missions. That, and the "No, I'm committed now. *IT MUST BE GRAPPLING HOOK,"* bit after she shows up with something different. I'd kill to see Kim's response.

even the original kim would act less stereotypically even when she was acting stereotypical about fashion and stuff
Sara Fontanini the og( fuck autocorrect) was awesome
this right here. You can have a strong female lead and never bring to attention that she is female.

Idk if the soccer was like an empowerment thingie to prove girls can play sports,, but... there a girls who are fine with being cheerleaders and thats fine too
I don't remember Kim being afraid of anything in regards to the mission. She was more afraid/frazzled about her school and social life.
I agree. As proven in the clips Doug showed us, cheerleading not delicate femininity. Those stunts take real badass skill and were a part of what made Kim so strong and athletic.

@@christianrodriguez3957, Batwoman: "I'm a WoMaaaaAaAAAaaan!!! Here I come!"
As a big KP fan who still watches the show, Kim was never jealous of others because she built others up instead of tearing them down. She loved when she could compete with people on her own level or above because she always liked a challenge.
Same here, the Kim possible that I know and remembered won't give a flying fuck about not being popular like Bonnie for two reasons:
#1 "main protagonist getting annoyed with someone who brags about how popular they are" cliche
#2 she's more focused on saving the world from the forces of evil than being popular
So that's much to it and agreed with you 💯
Something Kim Possible as a show did was establish Kim as being a headstrong, independent person with a heart of gold and gradually reveal her insecurities later but have her overcome them in her own way. She's initially presented as picturesque, but not flawless.
“Kim Possible was an empowering show because it didn’t tell a story about a girl who was a hero, it told a story about a hero who was a girl.”
Well spoilers action sequences are expensive and Disney probably gave these guys an extremely low budget to work with
I think that's really the key to making an empowering female hero.
Maybe because,
A.) The creators were losers in high school whom were bullied or dumped by the worse cheerleaders in the team, or
B.) Creativity deficit.
I guess being a football player is more easy than being a cheerleader
Dude, there’s a reason you make the cheerleader the hero: Buffy, Card Captor Sakura and Kim do all these insane feats on the daily while having stuff thrown/shot at them. Being tossed in the air a few times by you squad mates?

Exactly, the best way to show empowerment is to treat them like any other character. The best way to do it is just to fuckin’ do it
Honestly that line up took me right out of the movie and what I got wasn’t a feeling of empowerment. They could either look at each other and say ‘what’s your name?’ Or ‘you have boobs like me so you’re cool.’
I would have rather seen the girls fighting next the people they knew and had been in movies with before and passing the Spider kid between them while kicking ass and taking names.
Buddy that wasn't a forced empowerment message it was a nod to A-Force. A series team up in the Marvel comic books featuring woman exclusively.
@@rogue7723 I feel vice versa tbh.

Trust me, they'd find a way to make it worse.

Yes but to be fair her Dad is not really a fighter more of a genius scientist.

We had plenty of live action Dipper and Wendy in one sight gag in the Weirdmageddon finale. It worked because it was a visual gag, things were going to hell and the show has a unique art style that wouldn’t work in love action.
I honestly thought this movie wasn’t real and that it was a fan film but I honestly think a fan film would be better than this.

Shanethefilmmaker i am well aware I didn’t need the long speech lol.
Mr J depends on a lot of things. Some fan films I’ve seen were awful cause of either painful acting or certain constraints on budget.
7:01 That's not an impression. That actor actually sounds like that
"A forced message disguised as a human being" is the PERFECT way to describe it--and many other characters in recent modern movies, as well, I feel!
why are Disney Channel cartoons usually more realistic than the actual live-action stuff?
Because it took more effort and heart into making the show feel more realistic than there was in the live-action movie?!
Because Um...Reason.
Because the creative team behind the cartoon had to do something that stood out enough for people to like it and the creative team behind the movie just thought "this is just for kids, right?".

They definitely didn’t. Ron on the other hand I can say his character is fine. Shego and Drakken are okay but not as intimidating as they were in the show. 10:40 ... to be fair - Dr. Draken and Shego also were the best part of the animated series. Don't get me wrong - Kim and Ron are cool and nice to watch - but without those two, the series wouldn't be as good as it is.
Seeing that bit with Drakken while Doug talked about those two acting really pinpointed a big issue with this - and likely others - Disney remake:
A lot of it tries to forget it's a cartoon.
Take, on the other hand, Austin Powers (but we don't talk about Goldmember) or the Naked Gun movies. They're live-action but also *absolutely game to be cartoony with it*, and they're still just really solid movies.
@@suckypuckle9292 But why would they try to lose the essence of the show...that made the show what it is. Without the cartoony aspect, it is just another teen action movie.
If they want to go 'real remake' then go do that... don't try to act like ''Oh this is the cartoon comes to life''.
@@BlueWoWTaylan Exactly. If they wanted to adapt a fairly silly spy cartoon, they should have done that - and Drakken's actor did - but instead they tried to pretend they weren't adapting a cartoon. The problem being that, without its cartoony elements and the fun stuff, Kim Possible is a basic teenage school drama...Which this movie is, unfortunately.
I always thought Shego looked like Kim with just green skin and eyes and black hair.
@@suckypuckle9292 That's a good point. It's like the remake of The Lion King, i mean, sure the animals look cool and all of that. But don't have the expressions the animated had, so when there's a scene were they needed to express sadness or joy or anything else, these new animals can't make you feel the same way the animated did and it just feels bland... and don't get me started with the songs that don't work with the more "serious and realistic" approach this movie has
Movie Logic: Villains know where Kim Possible goes to school. Doesn't take this as an opportunity to kill her.
Counterlogic: In cartoon, Drakken and Shego KNEW EXACTLY where Kim has gone to school AND preschool from the BEGINNING of the show (Tick Tock episode) AND used it in both specials, but only to inflitrate - themselves as chlidren in A Sitch in Time and sending Eric to infiltrate in So the Drama).
Also, Kim never kept that a secret anyway, people KNEW it who she was, she never had a secret identity or anything like that.
Maybe the think the homework will do it for them.
@@karolnowak6423 Or maybe they wanna focus more on taking over the world than they do on just spending their time, energy, and resources on what they likely consider to be just one little teenage girl.
Just like how Rita Repulsa from Power Rangers knows where the command center is, but doesn’t bother to launch a full on attack.
Kim Possible has no secret identity. All her villians could know where she went to school, who her parents were, where they lived and about all her friends.
They just never acted on those cliches because A.) They were more invested in their own evil plans/ aesthetics. And B.)... they got their asses kicked by Kim Possible when she was relaxed, making it personal would be FAR more painful when they lost!
Also none of them were really sadists. They just had goals that aligned themselves outside a legal system
