My dad never let me watch sponge bob as a kid bc he saw one episode, and it had an adult joke, yet he let me watch this movie over and over again, to a point where it’s now nostalgic to me...
He probably saw a post-movie episode...

SpongeBob is mature and sophisticated compare to Mike Myer’s Cat in the Hat. I’m sorry you had a rough childhood.

You’re kidding right? 😱
What's scary about this movie aside from the imagery is the fact that _Universal Studios_ still has some merchandise of this.
Really? I went to Universal months ago and only saw regular Cat merch, I almost asked about the 2003 film, but they probably would've banned us.
I mean, I find it scarier that any merchandise of this disgrace to dumpster fires sold ANY merch...
Even many viewers were strongly offended how many adult jokes were in this movie.
Last year at my local comic book store i saw an old toy from the movie on display. It was a remote controlled S.L.O.W. And it had the cat in it. Which looked more like the one from the books.
It’s even weirder given that Warner Bros. is now in charge of movies based on Dr. Seuss.
This movie was so bad that Seuss' wife forbid Universal to do any other live action movie from his books. can't blame her...

I may be an outlier here... but I actually like this movie more as an adult. I know it is by no means a good Dr. Seuss movie, but the almost meanspiritedness of it gets me chuckling. This feels like an adult swim version of the story and it actually a quite a fun ride now as an adult in a way it wasn't as a kid.

Well, except for the muppet Count Dracula that pops up stating how many times Dr. Seus rolled in his grave every time a dirty joke is brought up in the film.
Stonks
I once heard someone say that "even if they dug up Dr. Seuss's body, strung it up in a tree and beat it like a piñata, they still wouldn't have been as disrespectful to his memory as this film". I agree.
I once heard that hyperbole is only cute in fiction, but in reality it is usually 10x worse. I agree.
Troy Wright I once heard that “trying to make yourself sound smart by using semi-complex sentence structure and vernacular while also spinning a persons joke on themselves only makes you look like a dick for no reason, especially if said person didn’t do or say anything wrong and you’re just trying to find a reason to assert authority in a situation that doesn’t require you to assert authority.” I agree.
Except it shows all of the themes of the book. The book isn't big enough to make into a full length feature film, so they use the IDEAS shown in the book and translate it into the film.
@@Keanuthelegend hyperbole/jokes are funny only in fiction.
HappyLarry polar express was also a small book but the new scenes integrated better in the movie than this.

Aw man, lucky.
I found it funny some strange reason
I found in my attic once, in a dvd box.
You should have matched the Mike Myers in “Halloween” instead.
Did you hide it behind the shelf, too?
16:43 For those unaware, due to copyright issues, they had to remove what makes this scene even more crazy than what can now be shown. When Cat gets hit in the nether region, he hallucinates himself swinging on a swing in a dress to the tune of Easy by Commodores while a unicorn whinnies in the background.
Now it’s just seems like poorly edited screaming.
Ohh I was wondering why they didn't show the actual clip
Don’t worry we all remembered what happened. Never forget.
Yeah I was wondering why it didn't show I remember watching this on a reaction channel and seeing this joke then I watched here and it was cut out and I was like.....what? Wait did my phone glitch went back and went yeah nope it was edited out
Oh I know that scene. I saw it on the DVD I have for this movie.
Seuss books knew how to talk to us like children but treat us like humans who could understand, learn, think, and feel. That's why we loved them so much. They didn't talk down to us.

Most of these books shouldn’t be adapted to the big screen like “A Wrinkle in Time”.

Each time I watch one of these reviews now, I think of how interesting it would be to see Doug make an editorial on Green Eggs and Ham. The title could be 'Where Green Eggs and Ham Went Right' or something along those lines.
Some of my favorite NC episodes are the ones where he takes time at the end to explain why the subject is a good example of how NOT to do a thing in fiction. It’s like a creative writing class that I snuck into and didn’t pay for.
One thing to note....Mike Myers was FORCED to play in this movie....So yeah, we had a missed opportunity for an "under contract" joke here from the Critic of old
He did those?
Cause the Dieter movie he wrote wasn’t good
It made me think even Seth McFarlane would`ve been a possible candidate for the Cat in the Hat because HE`S known for humor like that but the execs went with Mike Myers just because.
I’m also surprised Doug didn’t make a joke about the Piñata in the background with the cat’s likeness. It reminds me of the scene from Spawn where the Violator has his own car freshener. How that’s possible is never explained.

Plus, the adult jokes in there compared to the Cat in the Hat were toned down at least and were kept to a minimum, and were used sparingly throughout the film. On top of that, it did at least tried to be faithful to the book andthe cartoon in some places like they were trying to adhere to the spirit of the book like the part where he goes to Whoville and steal Christmas and where he learns a lesson about Christmas not coming from a store, even if it's not done or told well it was there.

Marina Syndulla Yeah he did. "You're not just wrong, you're stupid."
"A little voice inside of me is saying, "This is a bad idea," but I can barely hear that little voice, because an even louder little voice is screaming, "Let the 12-year-old drive!""
I like the message that children's books are timeless
I agree with you, reading the books by Dr. Seuss is better than seeing the films based on the books.
I'll agree, Jim Carrey was actually DECENT as the Grinch, he did a good job
“Decent?” No, he was great as he always is
@@nsasupporter7557 at least he was consistent with what Seuss offered, to an extent
He literally carried the Grinch.
He did what he could given the circumstances. That's just the magic of Jim Carrey. I hope he has a good retirement.
He had a thing that this film did not had.
It called effort
"This isn't Doctor Seuss! This isn't even pre-med school Mr. Seuss!"
I get it's r/wosh funne joke but Dr Seuss was never a doctor or went to medical school,he's only called dr because his mom wanted him to be a doctor, seuss was his mother's maiden name also

What does IT have anything to with THIS movie?
@@Rgoidit's a horror film
1. Instead of going to just stare at the sun I would’ve just taken a visit to dr. Seuss’ grave and just I’m sorry
2. What you said about people forgetting these movies is actually pretty true because before I saw this video I completely forgot that this movie even existed
Everything about this review Kinda reminds me of how everyone hates Teen Titans Go
Did... did they really have to cut out the "getting hit in the balls so hard he ended up on a swing with a dress" because of copyright infringement??
Right?! I rewatched it today and directly recognized this is missing.
I thought my phone would play it wrong.
Probably because of the song they played during that scene in the movie.
hey you can see the cut. i remember that part
I thought it was cause of the song that played on that scene
Toonfield Animations yeah I saw that 2
The thing about Seuss was that he understood that the extremes most children's material push are actually aren't practical and that moderation is usually the best option.

Omg! I loved the “We’ve got to have money!” Tony Jay clip and then the Cha-Ching clip! Great touch!
To be honest, that guy catching the girl as she falls may be the only decent scene in the whole movie 20:53
Cats trailer: *looks like hell*
Cat in the hat: Finally a worthy opponent! Our battle will be legendary!
I understand your Kung Fu Panda reference.
Who looks more disgusting
Cat in the Hat vs. Cats
the cat in tHE HAT even if the Cats movie is crap, your own movie has bull who scat. The movie of yours literally has adult jokes, and mostly appeals to main stream rather than being fath full to Dr. Seuss.
the cat in tHE HAT b r u h have you even seen the penis joke in the movie. That’s how low your movie is. It’s not as bad as the Cats movie, definitely not, but I think even the emoji movie is better than yours.

Actually, what's cringe isn't the joke itself. If nobody laughed, it would have just ended and everyone would have forgotten it. It's that it gets dragged out in a total of six - yes, six - finger snaps.
Fun fact: I went to Volo Auto Museam and guess what I saw on display? It was the Cat in the Hat suit that Mike Meyers wore in the live-action Cat In The Hat movie!
I saw it too last year and not going to lie, even without Mike Myers in the costume, just looking at it, the Cat is still creepy. 😬

Keanu Reeves as Neo in The Matrix Revolutions
Tommy Lee Jones as Harvey Dent/Two-Face in Batman Forever

Cancel Culture in 2021: *rly?*
There is no such thing as Cancel Culture attacking Dr. Seuss, it's because 6 obsure works of Seuss are removed from publication for having racial stereotypes by Dr. Seuss Enterprises, Inc. (Company of Dr. Seuss and his estate) and those are And to Think I Saw It at Mulberry Street, McElligot's Pool, If I Ran the Zoo, On Beyond Zebra, Scrambled Eggs Super and The Cat's Quizzer.

the acting in this video is better than the acting in the actual movie.
Lala Awesome of course it is, and it's purposeful, critics episodes were purposefully budget. It just fit with the humour.
The latin american Dub of this movie managed to t east make this movie a "So bad you laugh" movie. the dub actors had charisma actually
Say what you will about the later sketches, but the early ones I thought were actually pretty funny, especially in here
Lala Awesome Agreed, Critic gave one of the best speeches I have ever heard.
and that isn't saying much
6 years later and these videos are still feel like they could have been posted yesterday.
Truly timeless.
To quote Morticia Addams from the 1993 film..."Oh no...he lives."
23:12-24:13 That is one of the most beautiful speeches the Nostalgia Critic ever says that insults a bad movie. And he's right; stories like The Cat in the Hat had well thought morals, beautiful drawings and funny stories had helped shape our childhoods and given us great entertainment and I agree with him when he said when Dr. Seuss got it right, he got it right. And to be honest, The Grinch is the only live action adaptation that I like because it stayed true to the book, despite it having some adult jokes, but the thing I loved most is that Jim Carrey was funny and outstanding in this, whereas The Cat in the Hat doesn't stay true to the original story and has too much adult humor.
Agreed
Even Dr Seuss’s widow approved the Grinch movie, unlike this garbage
