The Verve were a great band. Really trippy in the early days. Ashcroft and the guitarist Nick McCabe were often at loggerheads and the turmoil comes out in the music sometimes. Ashcroft has had a decent solo career, his albums sell pretty well and his shows are usually sell outs playing to big audiences. He has Damon Minchella from Ocean Colour Scene on bass in his band now which is a good mix, Damon is an amazing musician.
‘She’s a superstar’ is a good representation of the Verve early tunes 😎. Live at Camden Town Hall -23/10/92 Notice the crowd are allowed on stage to crowd dive 😎
Unfortunately there aren't many live videos from the Storm in Heaven album and not in good quality, but the Camden show quality is pretty decent. 'She's a superstar' sound incredible at that show, very spacey sound.
Great reaction as usual. Let's give a shout out to Jools Holland who in my opinion has taken over the mantle of the great John Peel in finding and publicising new music talent. Plus is an extremely talented musician in his own right.
i just found your channel in the last half hour, the verve is my second favourite band, i was shocked in a good way to see you posted a reaction video to this band! Cheers from australia
Verve has many more top tunes. History, love is noise, gravity grave, blue and many many more. RA solo stuff is superb and not to be ignored also. They dont own me is quality
Thanks for playing this. 'Twas I who admonished you, although I didn't mean for it to be an admonishment. Sorry :) I think they played 4 songs on Jools Holland that night. 3 singles from Urban Hymns, and this (which wasn't even released as a single) from their 2nd album. The Keyboard player is probably p*ssd off because he had recently joined the band to fill in for Nick McCabe (guitar), who had quit. But then Nick came back, and Simon Tong was demoted to tambourine/keys. I'm glad you/Dave liked it anyway. I have bought you a coffee. The rest of this album (A Northern Soul) is incredible.
Nature is the law - an Ashcroft tune featuring Brian Wilson is great 👍 His solo stuff is brilliant, but also his colabs with DJ Shadow 'lonely soul' and Chemical Brothers 'the test' are incredible tracks. The guys got a great voice - seen him many times live and hes one of the best live acts. Verve fans fall into two camps - those who fell in love with their earlier stuff and those that only ever heard there 3rd LP Bittersweet/luckyman/sonnet etc.
The Verve was a very well balanced band. Richard Ashcroft has a great voice and is a magnificent songwritter. Simon Jones (bass) and Nick McCabe (Lead guitar) created very good sounds together and complement each other. For me, Nick is the most underrated guitar player of all time, his guitar and synths sound amazing live. There are videos on youtube isolating Nick guitar tracks from the rest of the instruments and it sounds amazing. And Pete is a very solid drummer as well. The Verve have 3 very different albums. If you start listening to the most successful and acclaimed 'Urban Hymns' as it was my case and go backwards (then 'A Northen Soul' and then 'A Storm in Heaven + EPs) you can be a little bit confused as they sound very different in a relatively short period of time. For that matter, there are people that don't like their early stuff and people that don't like Urban Hymns. The keyboard player is Simon Tong, he was 2nd guitar in some of their live shows and took on the lead role for the remaining of 1998 tour when McCabe left the band. Maybe he looked depressed because he wasn't playing guitar on this one :) My suggestion for another reaction: 'History' from High Hall 1998 (Eventually you'll probably react to the whole High Hall show because it was MEGA).
Nice. Very chilled vibes and that was a tight performance. Do you guys watch Later.. with Jools Holland? You've referenced the show quite a bit. Richard Ashcroft is a geezer, he's a humble dude. ✌️😎
I liked this one. Particularly the groove. the beat/groove reminded me of some sixties stuff, like the troggs and even that Donovan song, seasons of the witch. Here's a new one for Dave to try that takes inspiration from eighties metal (King Diamond) but sounds much more modern. It's the band Kryptos with the tune, Decimator ua-cam.com/video/Ax3vwjuT7FE/v-deo.html
I agree that these last couple songs from The Verve are certainly different from what I expected, because the big hit is the only one I ever heard. I really like the singer and the song has a nice groove to it. Here’s one from one of my favorite bands that’s been around for 40 years. This is a live song from a recent concert. Absolutely love Armored Saint. Here’s “The Truth Always Hurts”. ua-cam.com/video/LynF6A3e2VE/v-deo.htmlsi=jOY41-keWMREy9WL. Thanks guys.
@@GutterBallet Both Dave and I really enjoyed this one, but he doesn't know they have new stuff coming out. I'll surprise him with one of those tracks in the near future.
I liked the verve wen they wer out and went to see them few times…respect for percentage of RAs songs but as iv got older I feel like a lot ov his tunes are depressing..soz all verve bathers..I was one ov you at one point
Slide Away (not the Oasis song) is my personal favourite Verve tune, but this is phenomenal too. Nick McCabe, man. Enormously underrated guitarist.

The verve are brilliantly underrated!! Some great tunes from their first two albums and the third one!! Top band
Great choice! 'Stormy Clouds' and 'Reprise' on the same album - 'A Northern Soul', are immense too!
A new decade, This is music, No knock on my door in fact... just listen from 1 to 12! Classic Album
Nick McCabe is seriously underrated in terms of great guitarists.

Debut single All in the mind is a classic. Never made their debut album tho.
i like how you don’t pause the video like other reactors
Dave is a musician and likes to listen to the songs as they are intended. Thanks for stopping by!
Verve has many more top tunes. History, love is noise, gravity grave, blue and many many more. RA solo stuff is superb and not to be ignored also. They dont own me is quality
i love how his voice is still going strong.. obviously not like 90s but it’s still very good, even though it’s been a while

Your comment was flagged and I have no idea why! TY again for the coffee I will let Dave know about the keyboard player!
@@samechick Another interesting fact is the Keyboard player taught both Simon Jones (Bass) and Richard Ashcroft how to play guitar.

Nick McCabe's beautiful ethereal slide guitar.

Some Ashcroft songs to start on
"C'mon people"
" A song for the lovers"
"Music is power"
"Break the night with colour"

Nice
You probably maybe know this tune as he’s American.
Moby -Memory Gospel (Official Audio)
I’m not religious but it’s a headphone tune 🎧😎

Richard Ashcroft - Science of Silence
Try "Check the Meaning" by Richard Ashcroft
Full length version is a must!
I realise it’s nothing to do with this video Dave but listen to UNDERWORLD-REZ COWGIRL (Everything, Everything Live) 😎

First
You guys need to react to The Drugs Dont Work
For the best of both worlds, try Richard Ashcroft featuring Liam Gallagher "C’mon People (We’re Making It Now)"
