You know, one of the best things about being in my 50's now is that I lived my teenage years in the 80's..........Priceless and I wouldn't change them for the world!
Exactly feel the same as I’m in my 52s!😊
The beginning of the 80's was a New Gold Dream
Totally agree it was a very fun time
Still a tuff song as I’m in 50’s and still love it, best to listen to this when your walking or jogging whether early or late at night 🇦🇺
yes Sir, I would not mind to be an older guy, as long as I had lived through the 1950s and especially the 1980s.
the 80s had the best music, fashion, movies, etc. I can only fantasize about being a young man in those golden years of music!
This is one of the most under-rated pop/disco/dance tracks of the 80-ties....💪🎸🎤👍
Agree
A sparkling and explosive exploit put them at the top...unfortunately they could not keep such a high profile. What do you think it’s about?
A great opener to a concert.
I concur
I travel is better
Guys, believe it or not, I just randomly clicked on this song this morning, and I’ve been playing it over and over all day, what a FANTASTIC song!!!!😍
Really glad you discovered it my friend. Have you heard the extended edition with the different, more drawn out ending? I would also urge you to look into - if you haven't already - New Gold Dream 81 82 83 84. Their finest album hands down. Hunter and the Hunted is pure genius. Give it a few listens. Let it seep into your soul.
This was the first song I ever heard with Simple Minds, so I was late to the party. (And jumped off when Forbes left/were ousted) They were amazing!
Great band! Search out more.
Guess what? I've just done exactly the same thing!? What a fantastic band they were,...
@@edwardchapman3309Still are.
Still sounds fab in 2020 , having a dance In the garden with a bit of volume 😀👌
Dancing in kitchen as I Cook 😀
Go for it again-in the rain/brilliant whatever-I will be dancing also
Turn it up during lockdown
2022
Still awesome in 2024.
The 80’s were just the best times
No, the best were the 60s and 70s
They were all great eras. ❤❤❤
❤
❤
Who else thinks this was a better time ?
Absolutely!
Everyone used to smoke in pubs and there was no internet. And I remember paying twelve quid for jeans and thinking that was cheap!
Everyone. On the planet.
Pete Raymond no internet. Total focus. I saw them in Aberdeen 81 I think. I was 14
It was epic. I took lots of photos, collected fliers, posters, records etc...
Because, I was in a club in Camden Town one night. Full of punks, goths, metal heads;
you name it. I thought, I am going to miss all this one day
The bassline makes this song for me. It is incredibly simple, but so effective. Fun to play too!
Do you have tab for the bass line
So many of their songs were driven by Forbes' bass engine. 😌👌
Derek explains in on a UA-cam video, the fun fact is that someone in the comments who did not get who he was, tried to say he was not doing right….
@@flugsvenWaterfront
Love how the singer sounds like a cross between Bryan Ferry and Bono and comes out sounding better than both 😎
That'll be Jim Kerr Then...🤷♂️
80s rules I'd go back there anytime
Simple Minds at their most exciting and interesting. Sons and Fascination is still one of my favourite albums ever.
definitely. it has a real edge
Have it on lp
Like someone already texted , 1980 - 1983 was their best period . After the album New Gold Dream it all became less interesting.
Their great period of creativity. 1980 to 1983. Stunning sound.
+Joseph Devlin have you heard Celebration album ? that's a good one
I know that compilation album but I love Sons & Fascination, Sister Feelings Call and New Gold Dream LPs.
I agree. Early 80s had such a feel behind the music
79-81!
So what happened after that. ?
Jim Kerr,s confidence, charisma and powerful voice,a great band made this one of the best bands of that era and they're still performing ❤
They are still one of the best bands in the world ❤😊
I love the beat and energy of this song. 80"s music is AWESOME
Simple Minds was not just a band, They where a MEGA band.
They don't make bands like this anymore.
🙏
Have you seen them live?
@@fryim06 Unfortunately I have not.
@@fryim06 luckily for me a number of times , supposed to have seen them again but the pandemic stopped it.
@@fryim06 YES IN JULY 1986
One of the best voices ever heard in my life . . !
My God still sounds brilliant 2019
Very modern, they were ahead of their time
@@tamaragarrett3625 A pure definition of New Wave and Synth Wave sound. Simply the best music.💙💙

The early 80’s at it’s very best! What ever you do,play it LOUD!!!
This was their first big hit in Australia, making the top 20 in 1981 (#17). A pity that commercial radio now only plays "Don't You (Forget About Me)", and has seemingly forgotten all their other hits (including "Promised You a Miracle", "Glittering Prize", etc.)
No it isn't, everyone WAY better than this has worse treatment. The list is endless: Kim Wilde, OMD, A-ha, Bangles, Kirsty MacColl, Bluebells, Aztec Camera, Cock Robin, Comsat Angels, Toyah, Big Country, Belouis Some, China Crisis, T'Pau, Shakespears Sister, Sheena Easton, Roxette, Crowded House, Deacon Blue, The Smiths, Talk Talk, Belouis Some-even Duran Duran's post-1984 even better tunes and the grand ABBA get treated like this, especially all the girls' solo stuff. Even bloody worse for acts like Sandra, Alphaville, 'Til Tuesday, Real Life and Information Society that weren't even give a proper crack at the Top 75! Simplistic Minds get bloody lucky in comparison and should be considered bloody lucky, when they're nowhere near as good as their rep lies. Big bad, sometimes absurdly sung interchangable stadium noise that often goes on too long. Simply put, 'Don't You Forget' is probably their best and it made them remembered for it in the US. Least they get that. Anyway, 'Promised You A Miracle' is a thick and twatty number, their worst 80s song ever, and way too often all heart radio's old crappy 80s night, where they never played 'Don't You Forget'. How funny is that? Not. Best forgotten is that horrible tune. Their most standout numbers for me are the quite few-'This Is Your Land' and 'See The Lights'. Even on good rowdy numbers like 'Alive And Kicking' & 'All The Things She Said', his pompous and bawdy and often none-too discernible singing-and often overdone, does these tunes no favours. There are better vocalists fronting bands out there in the 80s-he is weak compared with them.
Bro I live in Perth Australia and there is a radio station called Easy Hits Fm that plays the worst of '70s and 80s music and I'm forced to listen to it at work. No chance of hearing artistic gems like this and yes the only Simple minds track that gets played is Don't You Forget. The station sucks shit and even the news bulletins are bollocks.
Mate, this is just like the UK. They always play crap-even when it was in the 90s, unless you were an overrated, undeserving 80s artist (Sting, Phil Collins, Paul Weller, The Cure, Slagdonna-the worst-Michael Jackson) they never play your stuff anymore, and NEVER EVER any new stuff the artist has got out. US radio is even worse as those xenophobic tossers only care about their own crap, apart from the bullshit from the UK today, when we've nothing any more, like everywhere else. Says it all.
Easy Hits FM-the title says it all. It's so 'easy' to play shit-and as every station for decades is only interested in the Top 10-and mostly, it IS full of shit as the best songs usually never make the Top 40-and some see no charting, or even release at all! Bet there's still many artists in my list who didn't even get one play where you are.
Damn straight so many hits. Make U2 look like a joke. These guys were freaks
@@chipcity3016 More chart entries at heights than they deserved. Quality varied, and anyway, most 80s groups make U2 look and sound a joke, but while guitar-driven bands will never have the edge over synth-based ones or singers, Big Country and Crowded House outstrip them every time, and Duran, while not being solely guitar-based, certainly do. Anyone can have 'many hits' if they've a insane critically acclaimed following in the media; it's usually the people that only are allowed to get sparing hits that are better. Simple Minds still get treated way better on radio than most, along with Depeche Mode, Sting, Weller, Cure, Phil Collins, Slagdonna, Minogue, Tina Turner-all crap like that.
This was and still is the best track the minds ever wrote, just brilliant 👍🏻
Probably the best song ever made. The lyrics are meaningless to perfection, a love song like no other. Whenever I need a jolt of energy for a planned run or similar, I play this song just under painfully loud - it usually works.
This was one of the greatest albums of all time.....an underappreciated masterpiece.
this and the next album are not only absolute masterpieces but among the most seminal of all time..or rather all modern music owes them a huge tribute, pop, electronic, new age..they traced the path which then was undertaken...
100%
They had some good songs go 80s
Unbeliveable for almost 40 year old song.Still very much alive and kicking. Can't stop listening.Learn from them music people
Stebulous!
I, too, am here from reddit.
I'd take 4 decades to find this song again too
Internet training required my friend 😉
Just Brilliant..80-83 Simple Minds were something else.
Aye they were mate..👍
Still are something else brilliant bands
81,82,83,84.......
With sons and fascination and new gold dreams as their best albums
Simple minds, one of the best groups from the 80’s , reminds me so much of that time and it’s heaven.
It's a magnificent song - the bass line the star (as was often the case with Forbes) in a very starry show.
Aye, they were never the same after Forbes left the band.
DF is my new bass crush. Love his groove!
Forbes and MacNeil gave the band their signature sound, IMHO.
In most cases always with Derek playing
So glad to have had my teenage years in the 80s...best time ever...still remember them in concert...amazing music in the 80s
saludos cordiales antena3 radio
Remember dancing like that the twins 8n the video until rave came along in the 90s no it all head banging shite I'll always love the 80s x
Wow, this is a banging tune! Simple Minds we're unrivaled in the early 80's!
dont forget the late 70s dude
Dunno why, but the woman in the elevator cracks me up everytime I watch.
Cracking bassline !!
This is an amazing dance track. I love early Simple Minds music and this is one of the best examples from the early 80s period.
Did you like Chelsea girl, life in a day? Epic all time greatness 😃
I remember hitting the dance floor when this track came on. fantastic memories, fancy footsteps. we were so cool and never even knew it. still get a natural high...
YES...I would hit that floor and blow everyone away!
Ohhh we knew it alright, just didn’t flaunt it.....
Didn’t need to back then 😉
Still an amazing song in 2021….. that is 40 years…..holy shit.
Jim Kerr in top form, such a great voice
Spine tingling intro, the Minds at their best time, great era for Scottish music
The blueprint for INXS success
Bass lines in this song are absolutely savage! Their early tracks were the best ... Sweat in a bulllet - class bass riffs
Hadn't listened to this album for years. Now playing constantly in the car. A cracking track and album. Simple Minds are an amazing band
Play it loud and see how good it sounds! Classic!
Add 4 to 6 beers as well, and it's even better!
The best thing about the 80's is that time proved their music right. In truth it was very very good and eternal. It sounds very fresh and cool
Sex Drug Baby Bomers JESUS on BACK burner ! Look where Repentance Can Redeem?
Guardians of the Galaxy video game brought me here.
Loved the lighting and the ambiance of those 80s nightclubs take me back please!
I was In Australia and 15 when I asked my mum for a Simple Minds tape (cassette), and I've been in love with them ever since. I'm now 59 years old. The driving bass line, the beautiful synth, the minimalist guitar, and finally the wonderful Jim Kerr's basso vocals with the slight Scottish accent coming through. Divine.
Fantastic simple minds
Fucking loved this when it was released, nightclubs were heaving, plenty drinking and fighting.

80s was true living! new times are total piss, never forget the ultimate times 80s BEST decade ever.....
Being a child of the 60s, teen in the 70s, Bowie, glitter, punk, and then the 80s came! Loved dancing to this song in the clubs where I was at every weekend and some weeknights (Tuesday being ladies night). New Order, Cure and Bauhaus were sooo much fun on a dance floor.... where I met my 1st born son's dad :)
The 80s were awful. Some of the music was good, and some of the films, but the decade itself was pretty terrible, with economic destruction and the threat of nuclear war.
Richard Anderson but this is about the music surely..... and I think you find the world is more fractured now than it ever was in the 80’s?
@@dja69 holy shit! I've always said the same..that 87 was the last great year in music
And to note...it was staggering how many great albums came out in 87
ON AND ON AND UP!
Simple Minds really WERE perfect in EVRY WAY. They were KINGS in the Early 80s, stunning
Comieeeenzaaaa SuperGarcia!!
(En España me entenderán) 😂
Me acabo de enterar de que existía este tema y de que no era un tema específico hecho para el programa Supergarcía
Great best-of compilation, but instead of having Love Song in there twice, should have had Someone, Somewhere in Summertime. How can that not be included in the greatest hits??!!
Ive seen them live at Glasgow Barralands in the eary 80's FKG epic group and still my fav group to day 😁😁🤘🤘
Love Song Lyrics
[Verse 1]
In coats of many colour
Reptile man drop
Stay below it, stay below it
Stay below it, stay below it
Temperature drop
America's a boyfriend
Untouched by flesh of hand
Heartbeat under, heartbeat under
Heartbeat under, heartbeat under
Some promised land
[Hook]
Love song
Love song
Love song
Love song
On and on and
On and on and
[Verse 2]
Flesh of heart, heart of steel
So well, so well
I cut my hair, paint my face
Break a finger, tell a lie
So well, so well
America's a boyfriend
Untouched by flesh of hand
Stay below it, stay below
In glory days that come and go
Some promised land
[Hook]
[Verse 3]
Stay below
Shout below
Flesh of heart
Heart of steel
Flesh of heart
Heart of steel
Flesh of heart
Heart of steel
Flesh of heart
Heart of steel
[Hook]
Love song
Love song
Love song
A love song
[Verse 4]
Stay below
Shout below
In glory days
That come and go
Stay below
Shout below
In glory days
That come and go
[Hook]
Thanks Chabbo.

I am 56 and thought I knew every 80s nugget. I heard this today for very first time and I’m obsessed!!!! Radio NEEDS THIS TODAY!!
Same. I mean, the big songs of S.M. I know very well. This little little ditty I had never heard and I love it.
Same here, came across it today June 2nd 2024. Yesterday I bought a 4 disc CD ‘Now 80’s Alternative’ and one of the tracks on the discs that just blew me away was Simple Minds - The American. I came on You Tube to find a visual copy and I found this track, Love Song, at the same time. Two mind blowing tracks I’d ever heard before today.
Nice minds 80s
Gilles De little 🇬🇧
Hard, driving, cool - sounds as good as anything now
Stephen Campbell much better than anything now
Their still together and preforming, better than most acts out there. Simple Minds have and always will be great
Music these days pales in comparison to the 80s
I forgot how incredible this song sounds - just pure brilliance, it takes me back to my 16 year old self.
286 people haven’t a clue
Fucking awesome
And now I’m 52.....🤪
My fav Simple Minds song. A touch of class right here.
This stuff is like a cracking whip - it's damn good, and let it be known that Australia cracked Simple Minds; their anthems and festival groove endeared them to thousands here in Oz at a number of outdoor summer festivals (I have a poster from back in the day to prove this!). I think we "got them" before the UK hordes can lay claim to. What a great band!
Amazing tune from an amazing band. Way ahead of the times, these tunes still stand the test of time 40 years later. 🎼🎸🎹🎤😁
This was and still is a great tune
Forget just how danceable a lot of early Minds tracks were.
This is one of their later songs, not early.
Late by what measure? It's 1981 pre New Gold Dream from Sons and Fascination when they wouldn't be considered big anywhere outside of Scotland.
I wasn't aware this was an earlier song. I clearly remember this single hitting the UK charts in 1992. Thanks for the info, Tom.
Todos los días la pongo
Actually, you're not wrong. They edited it a bit and re-released this particular song in '92. It was indeed in the UK charts at that time.
We used to go crazy on the dance floor when this came on. young and life tasted great this takes me back .. still makes me feel alive .
I saw Simple Minds in princes Street Gardens, Edinburgh 2022 one of the best concert's I've ever been to and I've got tickets to see them in Glasgow march 2024 😁
I love the way he dances behind the JD table, not the first time I see artists from 80 dancing like this, a hand movement - remind me a pantomime - I don't know why?
Jim Kerr is a brilliant singer, and in this video he's so cool :D
and young. .. like us :)
Looks like Gary Oldman.
Best bassist in new wave. Damn; what happened to him? Listen up to "Glittering Prize," he killed it. If you are out there, please play on my music.
One of the best video releases of this song from these legends. Turn it up and play it loud .
Great song, seen them many times since 79 they were just a small band then but you knew they were going places, made some brilliant albums early doors probably up until 85 then ego took over and off went the back bone of the band Derek Forbes and from their they stumbled on to 91 ish Mick left and from then the just kept topping up the pension pot with music thats was well not what one would come to expect from such a pioneering band... take you forward to now, nothing creative just a shadow of what they once were, dont despair though i can see an original line up reunion to celebrate the big anniversary.
God love Jim Kerr, I jumped in the elevator at the Perth International Hotel back in the late 80's and probably blew his ear drums freaking out, but he still gave me his autograph!!! Thank you Jim!!! You're amazing!!
Genial song 🎶🎵👍80'S
Loved it back then, especially the 12 inch version. Still love it today, and just about everything else that came after. This was the amazing work that broke them in Australia. Great, great band.
The 12 inch version is the full version. And the best version. Love the way it finishes with the keyboards and bass as the drum stop rather than just fading out.
Refueling over, we headed on our way, and several perilous miles later… AAARGH!!!!! we finally reached Cornwall.
Simple minds, legends for the last 40 years. Really enjoyed the music SimpleMinds did in the 80s. Love song, don't you forget about me, alive and kicking, new gold dream, Waterfront, all the things she said, to name a few.
Still on of the best records ever made!!!! Fotzepolotik Cocteau Twins another one.Maybe the Scots have the knack. Big Blue World Paul Haig anyone????
Visited pubs n clubs early 80's as a teen.Magical times
We new the bands from the style and voices. Not like now. Who is that?
I miss the uniqueness of these bands. One of my favs.
Exactly
Bands nowadays sound alike. I was not fortunate enough to get a glimpse of the 1980's.
Love Song taken from the album vinyl album The American/Sister Feelings Call.
Within the UK England in the late 1970's you could not hear this track at all as the DJ's on popular radio stations would not play this song and were told not to!!! John Peel on radio 1 London played this song and all the other simple minds songs to along with the cramps and other so called alternative music. God Bless JOHN PEEL for doing so R.I.P. God bless radio may long it live and rein !!!
You couldn't have heard this track anywhere in the world in the late 1970s since it was recorded in 1981.
Great music anyway, one of SM's finest before they went downhill with Once Upon A Time and what followed next.
ViaggiatoreFantasma good news from the next world was one of their best albums
They where just way ahead of their times! This song still sounds like it just came out today! 👋🥰👉❤love simple minds!
Simple Minds were classic back then better than U2 just a classic band with great songs "I travel" "Life in a day" "American" and the uber classic "Love song" 😎👍🤘.
Supergarcía en la Cadena COPE.
Derek Forbes was Simple Minds.
Cool as!

Fantastic
How many times I danced it, how many dreams, in the mythical punk club Suburbia in my small town in central Italy!
Just a timeless choon
Saw them for the first time ever in Coventry last night.
BRILLIANT.
Thank you Jim and Charlie 👍
The best song since A Whole Lotta Love.

Forgot how good looking Jim Kerr was back in the day. Love Song still hitting the spot in 2020.
