How is this band not remembered as one of the greatest of all time? It’s a travesty. There’s something undefinable about their sound that is very special.
I never get tired of watching this! They were so young and so alive. So ahead of their time and brilliant! (Can you imagine being there, witnessing this incredible phenomenon happen, and being a part of it!) Simple Minds is quite possibly the greatest band of the '80s. Who would have known they'd be here 40+ years later, and still knocking it out of the ballpark. I'm 62 years old, I missed out on so much, but I'm grateful these videos are here! 👍❤️
They weren't ahead of their time, they were of their time but with the talent to be enduring to last through all time; at least as long as we are still alive and kicking. 😊
@@RJRobertson-fd8xythat's it. Simple Minds are one of the best examples of the 80's sound. Unmistakable and a product of their own time. I saw them live a couple years ago. They haven't lost it at all. Real tight act

What an amazingly talented group! Jim is such a PRESENCE as a front man. LOVE that his and Charlie's friendship goes back to school day and endures to this day. But there is absolutely No Simple Minds without the driving, funk-a-fied commanding backbeat of Mel Gaynor!
"Sparkle in the Rain" should be acknowledged as a classical pop-album. It's dense, very authentic and melodic and full of superb songs. Probably the best album of the 80s. Up on the Catwalk is my all times favorite 80s hit.
There's no limits bud: I was there for early Simple Minds and saw *all* this stuff live, but never stopped and wonder if people who state what you people state do the same (ie still invest in music) or just slag everything off? Stick to FB bozo.
The album Sparkle in the Rain had a big impact on me when I was a teenager and I still think it is one of the edgiest albums of the 80s. This track is a great opener.
I’d put them in moment similar to the Cult love album when they were a decision and a producer away from taking that extra step. Tbh I think their early work still holds up and their best songs are as good as U2’s without all that edgy artifice
At the time, the drums sounded enormous, thanks to producer Steve Lillywhite who had a dead-set penchant for them to dominate the mix. He had a slightly earlier crack at it with Big Country
Also, I hope someday someone from Simple Minds reads this so they know how much I’ve been digging them since my childhood in the early 80s. I’m 50 now. When I saw them live in Vegas it was a bucket list moment
I love the effect of that synthesizer harmony effect through the song which is very effective as they did from 'Theme from Great Cities'. It is very difficult to pick out a favourite song from Jim Kerr and Simple Minds as they had their very own effective unique style which was never matched by anyone else. Still regularly listen to Simple Minds today.
It's was a terrible time. Massive mistakes were made in the UK, the US and beyond and we're paying for it all now. Music was good in the first half though. Shit in the second half.
Mistakes? Second half a shit? You where here in 80s?! Just to say one: Michel Jackson released album Bad on 87 ... may you do not like it, but i can suggest you 3000 more different albums and authors from this time!

Otherworldly masterpiece
I love your comment that's exactly how i'm feeling

The drumming technique is still so impeccably awesome after all of these years.
True, great drumming!!It gives the song an insane drive together with the keyboards.
