Everything uis best. Simper Minds are a hugely underrated band . Always coherent . U2 is juat the better commercial version. Not that i dont' take it as per value . But Simple Minds are far more creative.

I'm 40 and it reminds me of being a daydreamy 9 year old, travelling by train to St Ives, Cornwall. The guitar is ethereal. I like the stained glass window in this video, it is a sublime track x
For me this is one of the all time great songs. This is the Minds golden period from 80 to 84 when they produced stuff that was just on another level. McNeil is a genius and was a great loss when he left. This song has it all, poise, beauty, power, and Jim Kerr when he could sing properly - perfection.

Next tour, Once Upon a Time, they were done. 2 Great Albums and then vanish...And by that I mean New Gold Dream & Sparkle in the Rain. I bought and listened to the earlier efforts and can conclude, they were still finding their way.

New Gold Dream i rank as one of the top 10 greatest . For sure THE greatest in the 80´s. Nothing else produced in the 80´s comes near it. It is the epitome of the 80´s inlfuence from the 70´s merging into a funky symphonic freedom we never heard before :-) Or after

The song rips me wide open, the sound and the whole musical arrangement makes me joyful and sad at the very same time............. powerful, oh so powerful
New Gold Dream is such an amazing record and means so much to me. I bought it in 1982 and still have the same copy. I was 13/14 and went out the next week and bought Sons and Fascination..Still have that copy too.
I'm 52 now in 2020. One of the albums i'll never forget. It gives me shiver every time i listen to these tracks( hunter and hunted, big sleep, king is white and in the crowd) So unique and talented. Definetively a great band.
Same here, I'm a bit older and actually appreciate the brilliance of early 80s Minds even more. Why oh why do commercial radio stations keep only playing Don't you forget about me, their worst track by a mile is beyond me.

The most perfect song ever made. It never fails to move me. I love the dreaminess of the album version, but also the raw power of the live version recorded in Newcastle during the NGD tour of 82. I play bass, and I love playing this. Derek Forbes is a genius in my eyes. If only SM would tour NGD in 2022 with the original line up from the album to celebrate the 40th anniversary
i first seen the simpleminds in 1977 and got to know all the boys pretty well. Actually live pretty neat a couple of them to this day, Cant see them ever regrouping but you know the old saying MONEY TALKS

Thanks for adding me......when I first listened to SM I was 22 years old battling the worst suicidal depression from a life of abuse. I had become extremely religious and was attracted to the cover of New Gold Dream. The songs were mystical, transcendent and I projected my own life into the music.......Sparkle in the Rain raised my consciousness...it gave me chills....out-of-body-experiences........I survived.... I earned three degrees and have worked in hospitals, taught public school 20 years...I think I am a pretty happy person today...6 years ago I found Graffiti Soul.......wow......a few months ago I came across Walk Between Worlds.....again its a life changing experience....Last Monday saw them for the first time!

Have you listened to their Song This Fear of God? It's way way WAY Ahead of their time! I remember dancing to you promised me a miracle with a woman who was a beautician. We had fun back in those days! I love dancing to Simple Minds Music and I love Singing with Jim too! Lol!
Proud to say I have been the proud owner of a pristine Gold Vinyl copy of this LP for many decades. Also picked up Midge Ure's 2019 "Orchestrated", he and Jim Kerr are pals, and Ure's voice on it is even stronger, more beautiful than it was when he sang "Reap The Wild Wind".
The power and vibe that comes from this song is enough to allow you to close your eyes and imagine your somewhere completely different in another universe.
Yes that's the key the maturity of the song writing and composition for such a young band was incredible. Musicianship off the scale. The keyboards in this bring tears of joy to my eyes. Wish I had kept up piano lessons.

I'm going to be 60 this winter. I went to Los Angeles as a make-up artist for Yves Saint Laurent, and worked for them for quite a while. I was with the crew that launched the Fragrance "Paris", at the Bel-Air Hotel in Los Angeles. It was great, we had so much fun in those days, when we were all beautiful and sparkly.

The Roaring 80's. What a time it was. Sometimes i wish i could turn back time and let it stand still. The music and absolutely everything was so much better than now. I'am a 65 year old Grey man, but i never have forget to dance on a masterclass masterpieces like this.

Thanks for adding me......when I first listened to SM I was 22 years old battling the worst suicidal depression from a life of abuse. I had become extremely religious and was attracted to the cover of New Gold Dream. The songs were mystical, transcendent and I projected my own life into the music.......Sparkle in the Rain raised my consciousness...it gave me chills....out-of-body-experiences........I survived.... I earned three degrees and have worked in hospitals, taught public school 20 years...I think I am a pretty happy person today...6 years ago I found Graffiti Soul.......wow......a few months ago I came across Walk Between Worlds.....again its a life changing experience....Last Monday saw them for the first time!

I agree with you, but everything they did was So Great. The reason I know that it was ahead of their time is since 2007 I've been streamlining Simple Minds Videos and I can't get enough. Have you listened to their Song This Fear of God? It's way way WAY Ahead of their time! I remember dancing to you promised me a miracle with a woman who was a beautician. We had fun back in those days! I love dancing to Simple Minds Music and I love Singing with Jim too! Lol!

Proud to say I have been the proud owner of a pristine Gold Vinyl copy of this LP for many decades. Also picked up Midge Ure's 2019 "Orchestrated", he and Jim Kerr are pals, and Ure's voice on it is even stronger, more beautiful than it was when he sang "Reap The Wild Wind".
The power and vibe that comes from this song is enough to allow you to close your eyes and imagine your somewhere completely different in another universe.

Some of the early Minds tunes are exceptional given how young the band members were. This one has always stood out.
They were only 23 or thereabouts...only 5 years after forming with no real formal music training...
Yes that's the key the maturity of the song writing and composition for such a young band was incredible. Musicianship off the scale. The keyboards in this bring tears of joy to my eyes. Wish I had kept up piano lessons.

I'm 59 and knew these guys back in Los Angeles in the 80's. I'm Scots and knew them through Scots friends and family.
I'm going to be 60 this winter. I went to Los Angeles as a make-up artist for Yves Saint Laurent, and worked for them for quite a while. I was with the crew that launched the Fragrance "Paris", at the Bel-Air Hotel in Los Angeles. It was great, we had so much fun in those days, when we were all beautiful and sparkly.
