No anki? That's what I love to hear! Lol. I started rotations last week and have just been doing Uworld and taking notes in OneNote as well. I used anki all first year and although I know it works, I'm just so tired of it so I'm trying to see how my first shelf exam goes without using it and then I'll adjust if needed.
Thank you for your thoughtful video on strategies to perform well on Step 2 CK! Could you provide resources that helped you for each shelf allowing you to perform as well as you did? It would be greatly appreciated as I am preparing to enter my 3rd year in the fall and want to get ahead with mental preparation and resources that will help me succeed on Shelf & Step 2 CK.
Hi Shishona, UWorld is the most valuable resource for all rotations in my opinion (I sound like a broken record!), but if you also learn well by textbooks or outside resources, here are some I found useful: Psych- First aid for psych (text), Sketchy Pharm for psych drugs Peds- Peds Case Files (text) OBGYN- ACOG online practice questions IM- Divine intervention podcasts Surgery- Pestana’s Surgery Notes Family Medicine- AAFP Question bank Neurology- mostly just UWorld 😂, Sketchy pharm for neuro drugs
Hey Tim, thanks for the cool video. curious about the metric you talked about to target your weaknesses, do you mind sharing whatever formula you used?
How do you do UW questions? You make sure you understand all the answer choices? or the major idea from the answer? Just starting clinicals (IM next) and your score is #GOALS
Hey Tim, great name. When I do UW questions for the first time, there's often a lot I get wrong about the question. Even if I get it right, if I wasn't confident about my answer or had a lucky guess, I always take notes on that question as if I got it wrong. Early on (during my first pass), I read the entire question explanation, but only write in my Notes what I didn't know or understand before. My Notes are in a document that I review several times thoroughly (it doesn't take that long if you make the concepts concisely written). My second and third passes, I don't spend as much time reviewing the explanations because I'm familiar with them and I'll just write down whatever concept I forgot. By the end of the rotation you should be flying through reviews because A) You'll have fewer incorrects and B) It's usually 1 simple mental mistake that got that question wrong. TLDR: Do multiple passes of UW Qs. Repeat every incorrect until correct. Take notes on everything that you don't know 100% well. Review those notes repeatedly.
@@timjmd I know you mentioned you didnt finish the IM section... are you doing incorrects weekly or something? That section is a BEAST with 1200 qs + possibly more from ambulatory
Thank you so much for this video! Just wanted your advice on something I got through Uworld and I have of avg of around 50%. I only have a couple weeks od dedicated and I am wondering should I go through my incorrects or should I reset Uworld? Thank you!
They’re pretty similar, but more than a handful of them will seem “out of left field”, especially the Abstract-based questions. But UWorld questions include these questions styles and are the best preparation for sure
Never mind I saw the step 1 score in your other video, this makes this video more encouraging because sometimes people get like 260s on both it’s nice to see a big jump
Good question. I batched my questions and reviews which I felt was more efficient. I did my 4 blocks (160q) in the morning to afternoon, then took a break to eat, go for a run and shower. Came back and reviewed all 160.
I wouldn’t recommend Kaplan. UWorld is really all you need for practice questions. If youre asking about the textbooks, First Aid, Pathoma and maybe Physiology by Costanza
Hey Carlos! That was the NBME 7 for Step 2. I thought I did way better than my score, but then I found out most people score lower than expected on it!
I used B&B for Step 1, but in my honest opinion you don’t need it for Step 2. UW, OME and Divine Intervention was more than enough for me. His videos are very thorough though, so that doesn’t mean it couldn’t be a solid replacement for OME, as long as it’s not too time consuming and doesn’t take too much time away from UW Qs!
Hey Mohit, you can find Divine Intervention on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or directly on his website. Link in the description! If you want to hear a little more about the podcast I talk about it in my “5 Apps” video, but I may work on a more detailed Divine video if that would be helpful!
@@timjmd yes I think it would be really helpful. I was only doing Uworld till now but after your video, I think divine could really help grab the concepts faster and better. Anyway, thank you so much for your help. it means alot.
hey :) for the divine podcast I run the google doc. if you need a link lmk. theres notes up for every single step 2ck podcast available to read along while you listen.
Honestly, not much for Step 1. I really prioritized content review and practice questions. But I plan to go into the benefits of Anki and why I will use it in the future!
Hey Juveria, I can try to export/download my Step 2 notes, maybe in PDF format, put them in a shared folder, and post the link on my channel. How does that sound?
@@timjmd Congrats on your step 2 CK score! Could you please post the link to download your step 2 notes, Thanking you in advance, and wishing you all the best.

Thank you Dr. Poddar!
Great video! Were the questions on exam similar to uworld?I mean keywords, length of the questions, difficulty leve?

Hi! Can we get a breakdown video of how you managed time during rotations and how you studied during then? Your resources? Schedule? Study plan?
Hi Shefali, that’s a good video idea to work on! In the meantime, you might find my video “how to crush your clinical rotations“ helpful.

I can upload an excel doc with my scores for shelf, USMLE, and others if you like.

I'm curious to know if you did 160q at once or did you review each block after completion

Hi! I wanted to ask if Kaplan is a good resource. I bought Kaplan for step 1 and did not even look at it. Used it for biochem and retained nothing.
