I had the opportunity to speak to Joey once, I was at the NEC show in the late 90s watching someone talking at the Honda stand, I was near the back. I looked around the gathering and at the back was a smallish, long haired man, it was Joey, not far away from me. He was quietly looking on, it didn't feel right to make his presence known, so I nodded to him and got a nod back - that acknowledgement meant a lot ! A legendary road racer 👍🏻

Still emotional to watch, even 23 years after his tragic and untimely passing. His racing achievements coupled together with his undoubted easy-going nature and humanity to others less fortunate, has made Joey not only very unique, much treasured and irreplaceable, but equally importantly, one of us.

Funny we only talk about him as a superb rider and legend (as he should be)...folks should look into the relief aid that HE PAID FOR and himself delivered to the people of war torn Bosnia during those times. He finally started to get help with his off season endeavours, and he continued to deliver aid and relief throughout central and eastern Europe right up until his untimely death. Much more than a phenomenal motorbike rider, but a true and genuine man, and genuinely humble and compassionate human being. Thank you Joey...I remember watching you. Privateers forever mate.

Thank you for uploading this. What you saw was the true Joe Dunlop. His love for the sport was apparent to see and at that stage of his life his biggest challenger was himself. He just wanted to do like always win or lose to ride the best he could. That he did what he did on some of the sub par machinery he had to work with was phenomenal in itself. One story springs to mind at the end of a race holding the petrol tank on with his knees.

What a lovely tribute he gave to Phillip as well. Who is another great racer & man. I would loved to have seen Joey riding the bikes of today as I am sure he would be up there with John Mc Guinness. having moved out to new zealand in 1983 i only got the chance to meet Joey twice. Once in New Brighton NZ at a street race meeting 1993/94 summer(summer is from december to february) where he done a demo lap on the Britten V1000 bike then a week later at the local race track, Ruapuna, where he raced in two classes,125 and 250, on the card at the NZGP meet. I am in a video of Joey riding the Britten in that Brighton show lap. I think the team were hoping to get him to commit to a campaign for the TT. Sadly Mark Farmer R.I.P. died on the Britten in 1994, though no fault was attributed to the bike. By the telemetry, Mark had locked up the rear at Black Dub by unusually dropping a gear in a practice run and Nick Jefferies was on the other Britten.
Anyhow everyone loved Joey and he signed my shirt too.....thanks for this great doco!

An incredible human. This reminds me of the time I met him at the Fore road races. He gave me and a few others a lift back up to the paddock in his van from the pub.
Got to the paddock and almost immediately lines formed at the door of his van of fans wanting to meet the legend. And poor Joey was hammered lol (he liked a wee drink did Joey). Not once did he say clear off, I'm tired. He spent as long as it took to sign autographs, shake hands, meet fans (this was in the wee hours mind you, after the practice sessions). A more humble legend I've never had the honour to meet. R.I.P Joey. You'll never be forgotten.

its hard to grasp that Micheal now has the amount of TT wins Joey had when this was made. and people saying they don`t think 21 will ever be equalled.
I cant see John winning again now but i think if Micheal stands a favourable chance of making it to 26 and beyond.
