I ordered a spare battery for my r52 from my "local" Mini dealer. They cut the key from my VIN. I also had to prove I owned the car. I picked up the new key but I had to program it myself. Your instructions worked great. Now I have two working keys! Just to clear it up it if you have a new spare to pair. With the new key, follow this guy's steps. Once the doors lock/unlock, press the buttons on your old key (do not stick in the barrel). The doors should lock/unlock again. If they don't start over from the beginning - new key ignition and buttons, old key buttons. It took me three iterations to do it. The guy in the video did it quick - you don't need to be as quick. Still hats off to this guy for making the video to help us Mini owners out 👍

Hey im a newbie locksmith, i have a mini cooper one 2001, i made the key with autel, immo is working fine, i cant program remote, its needed learn with immo? or i can program with hand?
So this video covers programming the remote for central locking and not coding the actual immobiliser. That would need to be done with specialist software and tools
Hi Mini Mods, u video is useful, so how about ur old key? Is it still pair with the car? I wanna copy one more key for my family while I am keeping one for myself.
Hey man, thanks for the kind words! The old key is no longer paired to the car, it is possible to pair both. The other key will still work to open the door locks by turning the key but it will not get past the immobiliser. Hope this helps!
Yes! Start with the main (working) key. Ignition click, 3 button magic, then immediately do the new key exactly the same. If you can manage the 3 button thing perfectly, both (up to 4 keys actually) will work. Start the engine ASAP and that then seems to lock the keys into the cars memory.
Will this method work for a new key bought from the Mini dealership? They want $183.50 for the key and an additional $167.20 for programming, plus a 4 hour round trip to the dealership.
If it’s a gen 1 mini, this will work, yes however the dealership coding enables the key to start the car AND do the central locking whereas my video shows you how to re-code the central locking. A fresh key would want MINI to code it for you. Hope this helps

No matter what you’ll need to take apart the original key to get the immobiliser chip. What I did before was buy a used key off of eBay, move the blade and immobiliser chip to it and then programmed the buttons to work with central locking. Worked a charm
This will program the central locking. Without the transponder from your original key, it will not start the car. The transponder is usually a little chip at the bottom of the blade of the key inside the casing.
So I've got the old fob, but as mentioned the unlock button is broken so obviously can't open the doors with the remote and I have no spare. Is what I described possible as I have the original? Thanks in advance.
@@courtneyg06 yes it is but to make the new key work properly I.e. start the car, you’ll need to move the transponder chip from your old key to the new one. Yes so the original key has an immobiliser chip in it that needs to be swapped into your new key, to do this, split both keys and you will find it at the top of the case near the blade. Swap it into your new key and then pair that key to the car. It will then start the car and lock/unlock it!
I don't have original spare key. I Ordered a 3 button EWS car remote control key off amazon. Reprogramming it with this method, will it start the car? Or just be a door key/fob? I have a 2004 R50
Have you swapped in the little chip from your original key? If not then the immobiliser will not disable and the car will not start. If you do not have this chip or the original key to remove it from then you need to speak to BMW / MINI
You should be able to code it to the central locking of the car but you won’t be able to start the car without getting the keys transponder coded to the car
