After many months trying to sort these locks this is my advice ..there are two motors ..one is for open and close the lock and the other is for the dead lock....the Body control module switches polarity to open and close the johnson motor...and the other motor deadlocks.....you can cut the.white wire on the loom to stop the.deadlock engaging if you have this problem and it still locks normally without...deadlocks are a pain if they jam...nothing opens...the motors when removed may still spin..but when loaded with the lock mechanism to move may fail...replace ..and make sure you get the right polarity replacements...and make sure the mechanism is clean and moving freely....takes a bit of washing out with WD or electric cleaner...then lightly grease it.....that's what causes motor burnout in my opinion..

Great instructions. I have a bonus tip for people. The par that you took off at 4:48, you may take inside the door. Then the whole peace comes more easily out. And the same thing when you put it back in. Put it there with out it and just add it after the lock is in place. Because getting the lock in and out is the pain.
Having replaced maybe half a dozen of these actuators over the years, I very much appreciate your ($$$ saving!) tutorial on fixing the dang things instead! In case it's helpful for the next person - after taking one motor apart for cleaning, I opted to try cleaning the other with contact cleaner through the little holes in the motor housing rather than taking it apart. Worked like a charm! Maybe save that PITA step next time around and make for a faster fix. 👍🏼
Driver and passenger locks running opposite from each other after you finish? READ ON! First of all, great instructions, you saved me several hundred dollars from buying a new one, and plenty more from not having the dealership do it. I’ve read several comments about the lock operating backwards after being reinstalled. I had this same problem and was about to lose my mind until I realized what a bonehead thing I had done. When I reassembled the brushes onto the motor, I installed the brush holder so that it was rotated 180 degrees from how it was supposed to be on the motor housing. I have photos to clarify, feel free to ask for the photos if this happens to you and it’s not making sense. It should have been obvious as there was now a rectangular hole between the motor and brush holder after I installed it incorrectly, which I totally ignored. I literally had this thing installed 3 times, and disassembled the actuator probably 6 times before discovering what I had done. I was about to tear my hair out, thinking the car had somehow reset in the control module and the polarity of the motor signals to the drivers door had been reversed. I messed around with the internal gears for hours thinking I managed to get something configured incorrectly. Thank God it’s working now though!
I fixed the motor and had it tested it spinned properly and I put everything back together and re installed now I'm having the problem you have highlighted above and I am not sure or don't understand what I did wrong. Kindly please assist with the photos
@@esaiamolimola3136 I don’t know how to post pics on here, not sure if it’s possible. If you can post your email address, I can email you a couple pics showing what to look for.
use an automatic center punch to loosen that push nut at 5:20. just punch at the base of each of the "fingers" and it will get loose then push the pin out. then you can get a new push nut when you put it back together.
You sound like a Kiwi, me too. Just bought a used R50 and my driver lock failed after three days! That must be some sort of record. I'm going to try your step-by-step to see if I can fix mine.
A pair of needle nose pliars just small enough to fit into the motors locking tab detents will grab the tab and with a squeeze bend it out so you can open the motor.
Great video, thanks for making and posting this. I'm wondering if some Dielectric grease inside the servo where the contacts gets dirty might help prevent it from happening again.
Thanks again for the tutorial on repairing these units. Worked like a charm until I realized that, although my passenger side door button goes down when I lock the car, the actual locking mechanism doesn't engage. The door opens and closes normally. I wonder if that motor wasn't cleaned enough because I didnt take it apart to flush it, or if I reinstalled a spring the wrong way (or forgot it altogether). Any educated guesses before I take it apart again?
Thanks a lot for this video! I need to rebuild the actuator on the passenger door soon. In the end of the video you mentioned that you rebuild the power steering pump. Did you also have a video of that rebuild? I still have a broken power steering pump in the garage, swapped it for a working one. But always handy to have a spare one that is working.
Good video... I did it same as on video. No problem at all locking unlocking perfectly but when I drove the passenger door locked but drivers not. when I stopped and pulled the handbrake it did not unlock. I dont know if it is because driver doors actuator motors are dead too or something else ? also middle locking button doesnt work. I tried to unlock the passenger door maually and it doesnt work... I dont know what to do
@aim8179 You'll need to pull the door card off again. Check if all the linkages are still attached properly at both ends, plug attached, etc. before opening up the actuator.
@@thomaswilding8818 on the passengers side i did it. everythings okay. but I think computer still thinks that the car is in driving mode so it wont ulock the passenger door
I was able to rebuild the one motor that was burnt out with new brushes from another motor. I was wondering if you knew what the other motor with the larger gear and attached to the grey gear does? Also, is there a amount of time you have to wait in between attempts of locking and unlocking while testing? My motor seems to work then stop working then start up working again after waiting. Maybe a thermal protection or just the motor being worn? Any advice would be great. I also found ebay has motors of the similar size and gearing. Thanks for the great video!
I have not gone through to work out the actions each motor controls. Good thinking replacing the brushes. I had hoped to provide a link to replacement motors, but could not find anything I was confident was a direct swap. Can’t say I’ve ever had to wait for the locks to start working again.
Yes, unfortunately typically means pulling it out again. Check those steps around 11 to 13 mins in video. The first time I did one of these, that's what I had to do get it working properly.
@@Andr704 hey make sure both doors are unlocked then disconnect the battery, take the actuator back out take apart check that the plastic gears are both in the same direction ie open position then follow all instructions put back together in the car and reconnect the battery

This happened to me. I’ve written a long comment in this thread, but basically I incorrectly had the brush holder rotated 180 degrees when I reinstalled it onto the motor. I messed around with the position of the internal gears for hours, but I don’t think you can get any of that wrong. If any of the gears are in a different position when you reassemble, they seem to sort themselves out.
My key fob isnt working but i already replaced the actuators on my passenger door because of faulire but it still wont respond tl the key i hear no clicking sounds or a fail to unlock it just doesnt work

Put a new battery in your fob and then follow the instruction to re-initialise your key. In the car, just press one of the fob buttons four times.
