You know, MatPat, I’ve really enjoyed all of the “selfish content” you’ve put out recently. Not just because the subject matter is personally interesting to me. The time travel surprised me too, especially considering the circumstance in which time travel was mentioned before : Rick bringing a pizza and explaining that he hadn't used time travel. I had assumed that it meant that time travel was impractical or something like that. But apparently not...
@cheesyvin I thought so at first, but... It still presents time travel as something which is possible, practical and useful, though also very likely to be misused. Judging time travel only from that episode, it seems that : the problem is not that time travel itself is absurd/paradoxical/unreliable/etc, the problem is that time travel is often put to absurd/paradoxical uses. Case in point : the time agents get rid of the problem by going back in time far enough to prevent the snakes from evolving too much. Time travel problem fixed with time travel. I am not saying that it was a mistake to present time travel in this way. What I am saying is that I have no idea what they were going for with this, what point they were trying to make (beyond pointing that people often use it stupidly). I had been hoping for something more if time travel was ever to happen. Maybe something in the spirit of the heist episode, with a crazy parody of stein's gate and other time-travel shows instead of heist movies ? Anyway, now that time travel has happened, it feels a bit underwhelming.
Beth did say season four would be just like season one. Season one didn't really have any direction in it's first few episodes either. Maybe this was done on purpose?
Jerry's voice actor had a part in an episode of Love Death and Robots, voicing a similar looking cat that could talk, and caused the human extinction on that reality. I don't know, maybe this was on their minds.
I thought that was just supposed to be the reference, because of that. And especially because if the tongue-in-cheek, apocalypse-as-tourism tone of that LD+R episode feeling like such a fit with a Rick and Morty episode. But NOW, because of you, I can pretend that I'm just some sort of expert consumer hyperfan who got the exceptionally subtle reference. …but I don't think it was really a secret.
One of my favorite episodes honestly, people hating on this season are the people who think the creators should cater to the fans instead of making the show they want, this season has been awesome so far as long as you don't go in with a bunch of expectations
Hearing the description of the episode with the death crystals again got me thinking... Was Morty responsible for Jessica's choice to comfort people with no family who die alone!?
Kinda Unrelated, but my sister had a little theory that Space Everest was actually just Everest. That it is part of the earth Space Tourism board from when earth was taken over by the Galactic Government. Her theory is that even though the Government is gone, Aliens still come to earth for vacation and dumb people like Jerry have named everything "Space ---" to try to appeal to Aliens. I think it's a pretty funny theory and I like it, because through her version; Tony went to earth looking for Rick after doing a bit of detective work of his own, but decided to go skiing first. Tony died on the same planet as Rick, basically just next door and Rick never knew. His friend just wanted to Space Ski down Space Everest while drinking some Space Egg Space Nog with Space Cinnamon on top. Space.
@@antixingyunn628 no, that is not what happened, that single earth was destroyed and rick nonchalantly goes to another earth and kills the rick and morty there to be replaced
My theory: At the end of this season Rick is going to go through a portal to yet another dimension, and knock on another Beth’s front door, and start season 1 all over again, leaving the audience to wonder how many times he’s done this. Also you should do hiimmarymary part 2.
Def my same theory! Like the show has just been yet another sad attempt to be loved by his family. Just to screw it all up somewhere along the line. He clones so often and has so much knowledge, it really seems like he's been around much longer than one human life. Maybe this time around he'll find out no amount of knowledge/intelligence can give him a perfect life.
Relevent Quotes about Control from Episode 4... Barthromaw: "Your lessers will hunt you down, and you will be owned or slain" Rick: "I have actual power" Wizard: "Not here you don't" Morty: "I started all this when I tried to control Barthrowmaw, and that was %%&* up. Nobody should control anyone, especially that guy up there." Rick: "Well it's your world now. Have fun with empowerment. It seems to make everyone that gets it really happy"
Things aren't predictable and static, the universe is plastic and, unless you have all the information in the universe, its unpredictable due to chaos theory
yea lmao no can do. But honestly, the show has gone pretty long without adding regular characters just because I feel they could add 1 or 2 to get into other archs which I think they will inevitably do anyway.
I think season 4 theme is about how rick is disconnected emotionally and he try really hard to keep them deep down and every time it comes to the surface he pushes it down again
I can imagine Morty leaving with Rick at the end of season 4, leading into a season 5 focused on just their adventures. I can see this happening as Rick continues to manipulate Morty to the point that Morty feels like running away with Rick is in his best interest.
@@patricksammon6238 they could bump into the "real" Beth out in space? Or that side plot just gets shelved for a season... Remember they're hoping to do another 70 eps
I would actually watch that. I’m really not enjoying season 4. I hate Jerry, I hate Jessica, I hate Trisha, I just want space adventures and the citidel. No more dysfunctional family bullshit, no more romance subplots with bland characters, no more Dragonheart fanfiction.
I had an idea for a continuation of your wall-e theory: Eva packs way too much firepower to be simply searching for a plant, I am suggesting that there were suspected survivors, and she was sent to destroy them because they knew too much. The whole plant operation being a cover story. (Edit: some extra clues are the facts that Eva hovers above the ground as to not leave behind obvious give aways to her presence. She seems very geared toward combat.) (Edit 2: if there were survivors, this would explain why the plant would be found inside the refrigerator, because they knew of Eva's secondary directive. If they hid the plant someplace obvious, then she would find it and leave, buying the survivors more time.)
Hmmm Again, if humans still survived on Earth, wouldn't Wall-E have interacted with them somehow? Plus, without plants, what would the humans eat to survive on Earth?
@@abhijanwasti7991 it may not be pretty, but we are shown that cockroaches can survive. They may eat them. As for wall-e and the humans, the humans were probably hiding, which is why Eva searched in placed plants cannot grow and humans could fit.
Don't get me wrong, I love Wisecrack, but I feel like Mat does R&M theories because he wants to talk about R&M. But Wisecrack does R&M videos because they are afraid of backlash if they don't constantly roll out R&M videos. That said, in both cases, I think there's really no need to analyze each individual episode. I like overarching theories like this video MUCH more. Everything else is "HEY, HERE'S WHAT TO KNOW IF YOU DIDN'T TAKE PHIL100".
well actually everyone missed the hint at evil morty. with the fact that all those other realities have begun to change to fascist worlds, with the first ruled by morty i might add. this is probably a hint at a further development of evil mortys plans, as he turns every reality into a place where ricks hate it the most.
I'm pretty sure it's just that he went to the select universes where his cloning machine still exists. He even mentions that and points to the fact that one of the goals of the fascists was to achieve immortality. In other universes, his priorities are different and he doesn't feel the need for it.
And rick also said that morty has been up to some wierd stuff if i remember right. Maybe that reality morty have begun his plan to turn it facist, perhaps after evil morty dropped by?
What if Rick see the fact that his family leaves him and when he end up being alone we will get a back story of what made him the way he is , what happens with his wife and from where his problem with control comes from ???? I am putting my money on that as the previous episode and season speck for them self . As you go from S 1 to S 4 you can see that everything has to do with Rick and his past .
Wait but what part is there not to get? It's always basically 1: Rick and morty out on adventure 2: insert random SciFi problem 3: hint toward something deep 4: Rick uses unexplained SciFi gadget 5: problem solved Or something similar
Alright alright let me say this... The first half of the season is so chaotic to throw theories and theorists like matpat himself off the trial and episode 6-10 are going to be completely different and more self aware.
Calling it now, if this is really is the theme of season 4. 4/5 is going to end with Rick getting a new body and moving in with a new family that hasn't reconnected with Rick, bringing us back to zero.
How about this? Rick tries to stop the smiths abandoning him, and instead the others try to stall fate against him. In the end, we see another universes smith family.
Mat sounds so serious and sad in this episode, and he keeps lamp shading with all the “selfish content” comments, I really hope he isn’t letting hate comments and stuff effect him too much.
@@obama7336 yea, the last we saw of him was season 3. Cant wait for that to come back out of nowhere again and prove everything wrong. just like always. god I love this show
1:45 before I finish the video, id like to add my two cents on the topic of “no themes”. So far this season, we have seen loads of character development in Morty. He has changed from being a “yes rick” character, to someone with more backbone. Episode 1: when they first got the death crystals, and Morty kills rick, he completely ignores hologram rick. Would season 1 Morty do this? I don’t think so. Also at the end, he stood up to his parents, taking the responsibility for his rampage instead of dumping it on Rick. Episode 2: we see Morty putting up with less of Jerry’s behaviour, and rightfully calling him out on it. This episode also shows us that Morty doesn’t always need rick around, taking it into his own hands to fix Jerry’s mess. Episode 3: not so much in the heist episode, but we do see a side of Morty that we don’t often see: his hobbies external to rick. I think rick was afraid of losing his sidekick, so he put a stop to Morty’s script. Episode 4: refusing to use Rick’s magic gun, instead opting to use his magic tome on their journey to the Wizard Episode 5: Morty going off on his own to somehow make amends for killing snake buzz aldrin. Interestingly, almost all of these things go against rick in some way. Could we end up seeing this relationship move from a Batman and robin to more of a partnership? Or will rick put a stop to Morty’s character growth? Find out next time on DRAGON BALL Z
That scene with summer and her friends (who I’ll just call Valley and VSCO) listening to snake jazz made me hate my generation. It would make a great commercial for CougarLife.com because after seeing it, I now want older women.
it would explain her attitude cus Beth always loved him as he is and listened to him you do realize his real familly is dead right and used another one to replace his wife and daughter all ricks go trough this depression cus they look for a universe were they survived but have memories of that part of their life ... and no he dosent wipe it of his a man after all not a coward

Are we not gonna talk about the fact that first time ever in Rick and Morty they time travelled??
The time travel surprised me too, especially considering the circumstance in which time travel was mentioned before : Rick bringing a pizza and explaining that he hadn't used time travel. I had assumed that it meant that time travel was impractical or something like that. But apparently not...
@@quaesitrix881 Maybe that episode was meant to show the absurdity and uncertainty of time travel.
Eh
I'm pretty sure the creators said they wouldn't do time travel, I'm surprised MatPat didn't mention it

Space.

Maybe this time around he'll find out no amount of knowledge/intelligence can give him a perfect life.

I would definitely be okay with the series ending that way
Season 4 episode 10 summer literally says “don’t drag us into your crap just because you’re losing control”
Relevent Quotes about Control from Episode 4...

Rick: "I have actual power"
Wizard: "Not here you don't"

"The only thing constant is change"
I think Matt's use of the word "random" is for lack of a btter term.
JAYSTAR1135X can’t the theme of every Rick and Marty episode be the universe is always changing
Tony Spera, yeah but in season 4 rick specifically says “if you’re living properly then the way you die is always changing” and similar things
Things aren't predictable and static, the universe is plastic and, unless you have all the information in the universe, its unpredictable due to chaos theory

She seems very geared toward combat.)
(Edit 2: if there were survivors, this would explain why the plant would be found inside the refrigerator, because they knew of Eva's secondary directive. If they hid the plant someplace obvious, then she would find it and leave, buying the survivors more time.)
By the way, if you want to add to my theory, that would be great, thank you for reading.
Your theory doesn't explain why Eva didn't blow up the humans aboard the spaceship.
(edit 3: Eva was getting rid of humans who would know how evil bnl is, so the humans on the ship could recolonize without opposition.)
Hmmm
Again, if humans still survived on Earth, wouldn't Wall-E have interacted with them somehow?
Plus, without plants, what would the humans eat to survive on Earth?
@@abhijanwasti7991 it may not be pretty, but we are shown that cockroaches can survive. They may eat them. As for wall-e and the humans, the humans were probably hiding, which is why Eva searched in placed plants cannot grow and humans could fit.

well actually everyone missed the hint at evil morty.
with the fact that all those other realities have begun to change to fascist worlds, with the first ruled by morty i might add. this is probably a hint at a further development of evil mortys plans, as he turns every reality into a place where ricks hate it the most.
This... Is actually a good theory
Omg this actually seems like a valid theory
I'm pretty sure it's just that he went to the select universes where his cloning machine still exists. He even mentions that and points to the fact that one of the goals of the fascists was to achieve immortality. In other universes, his priorities are different and he doesn't feel the need for it.
And rick also said that morty has been up to some wierd stuff if i remember right.
Maybe that reality morty have begun his plan to turn it facist, perhaps after evil morty dropped by?

Episode 4: refusing to use Rick’s magic gun, instead opting to use his magic tome on their journey to the Wizard
Episode 5: Morty going off on his own to somehow make amends for killing snake buzz aldrin.
Interestingly, almost all of these things go against rick in some way. Could we end up seeing this relationship move from a Batman and robin to more of a partnership? Or will rick put a stop to Morty’s character growth? Find out next time on DRAGON BALL Z
