So, I was thinking about this movie recently; and while I do wish Jack and Rose could have lived happily ever after, I think Jack's death was necessary. Not for Rose, but for the audience. As time goes on, the disaster becomes more and more just a footnote in history, detached from the actual trauma of the event. We can look back at the reports of the sinking, and all the death, and realize how horrible it must have been; but it is still just numbers to us. By the time the movie came out, the Titanic had been at the bottom of the ocean for more than 80 years already. Very few survivors were left alive, and for most people; several generations separated them from the wreck. I think having Jack, the charming co-lead of the movie die, after we spent so much time getting attached to not only his character, but also his growing relationship with Rose; was meant to be the emotional punch necessary to make the wreck feel real to us in the modern world. Seeing their adventures aboard the liner, you really began to root for the couple. If it were any other movie, they likely would have gotten their happy ending. But Cameron wanted us to feel the loss, even a little bit, that the survivors and family of those lost aboard the ship felt; by taking this character from us, just inches from the finish line. In that way, Jack is meant ot be a stand in for everyone who lost their lives in the disaster.

It's more complicated then that. Rose just don't remember it correcly. She is over 100 years old, and trust me with how time can affect brain no wonder there is some anachronistic's in this. I know Mat prefers to make it zebras rather then horses, but it's much simpler that she doesn't remember it correcly and make up blanks in her memory. It is how your brain alter your memory because more time passes and more blurry that memory is. It's like old magnetic tapes. Let's not forget the whole story was told from a 101 year old Rose's perspective. A 101 year old who is about to die at the end of the movie could easily confuse Lake Wissota and Santa Monica Pier as something Jack said. I believe that could be a clue as to where Rose did most of her ice fishing later in life and the pier as something Rose definitely visited in the horseback picture between 1917-1923. Same thing with "Molly" Brown. She confused Brown's name she went by on the Titanic with the name she heard for years and years after the sinking just as she confused actually doing the activities with something Jack actually said.
@@tqsuited I think James Cameron might have purposefully ignored some of those details in order to make the story more of a feel of one coming from an actual 101 year old. And now that you mentioned something, I could dive further into a lot of the internet hating on Rose as a "selfish {you know what}" and bring up what I really think happened in the story. I think Cal was just a really cool guy who might just be a victim of heartbreak and the stories of him chasing her with a gun might be over exaggerated. Conversations such as those between Captain Smith and his officers? The wireless operators? The lookouts? The events of 1912 are told from her first hand knowledge, right? So unless she's just adding in details of history outside of her recollections, how is it that these are part of the movie?

Here's the first thing I go to though: so, the posit is that in Jack's original timeline, the Titanic never crashes and sinks. So what his entire mission would boil down to is knowing EXACTLY where a particular iceberg will be in specific moment to make sure the boat hits it. Unless you're saying that he was taking several different trips beforehand to scout where all the icebergs were in the Atlantic, it's not like there's available information in the future on the coordinates of icebergs from the past.

Are we all gonna ignore the fact that the sinking of the Titanic saved millions of lives because it lead to some new safety requirements on passanger ships like enough lifeboats or better communication and warning between ships?
While you arent wrong even if titanic diddnt sink there would likely be an incident that would happen to cause these changes anyway, an example even possibly being lusitania, considering the death tole she had even when there were enough lifeboats
Not to mention that maritime laws that would have never happened without titanic sinking. Examples: lifeboats for everyone on board, not sailing too far north/south near the Arctic/antarctic circles.
Yeah that could have killed even more people. The thing with humans is we learn from mistakes. Without the titanic sinking it would have caused those Maritime Laws to not exist for a few years or maybe ever. Or like how before 9/11 airport security was nothing like it was today and it was really low. After that day we fixed it so it would never happen again. To be honest if I had the ability to time travel like Jack…. I wouldn’t change a thing. We’ve survived this long and we have become a better species for it. For everything that has happened to have been possible it required these tragedies and sacrifices and I wouldn’t change any of them
I don't think that can be definitively stated; if things kept going the way they were, and more passenger ships of the kind were built, then eventually, there would have been an accident, and it would have been horrible... and it very likely would have resulted in the same or similar laws.
Something that was overlooked was the fact that the Titanic disaster lead to laws being passed that improved the safety and quality of radio communications worldwide. It's why modern day radio communications (such as television and WIFI) are split into multiple "channels".
@@guillermogutierrez710 You mean that Jake is actually Jack's son or grandson? It's funny how they both share the same initial J. Wonder if Cameron did that on purpose.
Yooooo, what if jack time traveled because he saw the outcome of the war. That’s why he had the moose sack!! The moose sack was used in the war in 1917
My theory is that Jack's dad died in the earlier US entrance to the war. Jack goes back to try to delay it. Jack talking about ice fishing was his remembering the good old days with dad. The moose sack was dad's, kept as a keepsake.
Plot twist: Leonardo DeCaprio is a time traveler who went back to make sure the ship sunk so he could play in a movie about time traveling to make sure the ship sunk
It's not a twist is a fact I'm just saying because of my personal experience of being a time traveler also I know you're great great great grand daughter she is very funny XD
I once had a dream where I was forced to time travel in order to save this particular existent from his untimely death and anonymity, *which still got erased from the history* because he in turn also time travelled to the future in order to make sure that I got sent back in time to save him. This person got inspired by me, went and created a time travelling machine so that he could go to the future to personally send me back to his past where my appearance had inspired him to create the machine in the first place. If that's not a perfect loop, I don't know what is. My mind was blown when I woke up from that awesome slumber.
People in the 90s: "The World Wide Web will give everyone access to information, so we'll never have to worry about propaganda or silly ideas ever again!" Baby MatPat: "We'll see about that... Information, you say?"
The time travel theory is fun, but the simpler explanation, creative license for the sake of relatability. Jack’s anachronistic references, like Lake Wissota and the Santa Monica roller coaster, were likely added to make his dialogue resonate with 1990s audiences. James Cameron focused heavily on historical accuracy in Titanic‘s set design and costumes, so these small details were probably minor creative liberties to evoke imagery modern viewers could easily visualize. The story is about romance and tragedy, not secret time-travel missions - but it’s definitely a cool theory!
Another thing is that the sinking of the titanic told world leaders that there needs to be more safety precautions on boats like having a adequate amount of life boats and that we do sinking procedures on boats now so the titanic sinking also saved many lives because of that
I think you're missing the more obvious Film Theory here; Jack is a time traveler, sure. He comes back, orchestrates a situation where he can get on The Titanic and sail across the globe on the historic vessel, which in his timeline is legendary. He's not some temporal agent, he's just a rich guy on a time travel holiday, playing a character. But then, he does something he's not supposed to do. He sees Rose about to jump and saves her. This sets into motion the events that cause Titanic to collide with the iceberg. This is why Jack is so surprised when the iceberg hits - This isn't the way history is supposed to go. He still has a plan, though - He'll bail out and head back to his own time before the ship sinks, so he gets Rose onto the lifeboat and then he'll be off... Only she doesn't get on the life raft. Now he needs to stay or she'll surely die. That's why he's so upset with her for jumping off. Ultimately, he dies and she survives and the whole timeline is messed up - And time travel is never invented for some reason and instead of being a time traveler, Jack ends up an actor...
Jack's presence on the Titanic actually caused the sinking in a simpler way: if the lookouts hadn't been distracted by watching him and Rose kissing, they would have seen the iceberg a few seconds earlier and the Titanic would have missed it.
Haha, that is a good point that should have been included. Whatever mechanism Jack is using for time travel, he clearly has access to key points of probability or else how would he have been able to win the ticket in the card game in the first place. He already knew what hand the Swede was going to play and how to beat him. (This rabbit hole just keeps on going!)
MatPat: JACK IS A TIME TRAVELER LOOK AT ALL THESE HISTORICALLY INACCURATE THINGS IN THE MOVIE! The people who worked on the movie: Yeah..... Definetly on purpose.....
Another thing to point out is that Jack uses Filter Cigarettes, something that wasn't even around at the time. Also another thing I heard about the "Time travel Jack" Theory is since it's a James Cameron movie, Jack's purpose for insuring Rose's survival is because she's the Great Grandmother of Sarah Connor. Yes, it's far out there but it's something for the people who subscribe to this theory to enjoy!
I honestly kept thinking his theory was going to bop into this one directly. His theory is good but not as good as "Terminator: Titanic" if only because his premise is based on the idea that people in an alternate future timeline where the iceberg disaster doesn't happen, somehow have figured out it would happen. Which given no one is there to see the iceberg, the ship famously states it's "iceberg proof" to paraphase it; which also would be way more glanced over in a history where it doesn't run into icebergs, etc. It's a lot of, "we know stuff from history were people were now never at, in the middle of the ocean, at night" to buy into them discovering that this one girl's suicide saved the ship but was disasterous in various other ways.
@@GreyUsurper Whats more likely? That the writers and director all missed crucial details in their props and stories, or that they missed the fact that it would be pretty hard to predict an iceberg hitting the titanic if the titanic didn't hit an iceberg in the future. Your statement is 100% logical and actually is hard to argue against, but at that point we are arguing who made the biggest blunder. They could have just had Jack tell time appropriate stories or have him with unfiltered cigarettes and such, but they didn't. But thinking so far ahead as to how did the future even know there was an iceberg to hit in the first place is more of a missable plot hole in my opinion. All time travel stories are going to have plot holes, just depends on how big and noticeable. Yours is actually a very crucial and insightful one, but ultimately pretty small and missable if you aren't a gigabrain.

I get that it wouldn’t make sense for the directors to purposely add incorrect parts in the movie- I’m just saying I think it’s funny that , to make the storyline make sense, matpat would insist on time travel rather than a more realistic answer. Yes, I know that the movie probably just had some errors to it, I’m just saying that I would theorize way different than MatPat :)
@@Thilykos okay but like why would a director PURPOSELY do that? yes thats the most logical explanation in real life but he is a sci-fi director. that would honestly be the most boring explanation
Me before the theory: OK, I'll see it through. Maybe he has some good points or evidence that cannot be explained any other way to support his theory. Me after the theory: Really MatPat? Time-travel is a more likely explanation of the incorrect details than the old woman recounting the story misremembering or forgetting minor details (like the name of a roller coaster) and her mind just filling in the blanks due to not having a perfect, flawless memory of conversations which happened many decades ago? Yeah, no.
This doesn't even acknowledge that massive impact that the Titanic Disaster had on passenger ship regulations. After it's sinking, it became mandatory for ships to carry enough life boats to support it's entire crew and all passengers (as it was not prior). This also being such a huge event, the "sinking of the unsinkable" and subsequent deaths of over 1,000 people provided a high-profile enough tragedy to see it done. 100 smaller ships could have sunk and killed tens of thousands but may not have had the impact of the Titanic. The sinking of the Titanic has saved thousands of lives, even to this day through the regulations put in place after it. Even omitting the whole WWI angle, it's sinking has caused a net-gain in human lives saved; making one mistake to prevent dozens of others.
If he planned all this prior ( the ticket saga and the plan to sank) any delay would be bad, so he had to stop it, maybe he was looking for suicide attempts while walking around the ship.
Voyagers would do something like this. 80s sci fi show where they travel through time not preserving it but changing it. "Give history a little nudge" to create the timeline that leads to their future. They will arrive to find that time isn't happening as their history books record it. So they have to "fix" it by changing history. Lincoln's kidnapped not by time travelers but by rebels which means in the "original" timeline the south won. But they save Lincoln creating the timeline they know. I'm not sure they thought of the implications of the show that deeply but it basically implied that our timeline is the result of time travelers messing up history. One of their agents gone rogue is even Jack the Ripper.
If he can time travel he probably just looped until he got a good ending. After all, if mat's theory is correct, every time he fails he ends up safe and sound since the ship doesn't crash so he can just time travel/jump back to before the poker game and try again.

wtf did i read?
Let's not forget the whole story was told from a 101 year old Rose's perspective. A 101 year old who is about to die at the end of the movie could easily confuse Lake Wissota and Santa Monica Pier as something Jack said. I believe that could be a clue as to where Rose did most of her ice fishing later in life and the pier as something Rose definitely visited in the horseback picture between 1917-1923. Same thing with "Molly" Brown. She confused Brown's name she went by on the Titanic with the name she heard for years and years after the sinking just as she confused actually doing the activities with something Jack actually said.
That's a great analysis, I've never considered that before. She couldn't remember all those tiny details accurately like 80+ years later.
What might be perceived as a love story by Cameron might actually be disguised as a story about a spoiled rotten person.
I don't know anymore. I guess I'm just speaking just to hear myself speak now, haha

Also, yeah, terminator 1&2 have time travel... BUUUUT... Piranha 2, Aliens, The Abyss and Avatar do not :P

Mattpatt saying "she died cause she real old the end" got me laughing lmao

Another thing is that the sinking of the titanic told world leaders that there needs to be more safety precautions on boats like having a adequate amount of life boats and that we do sinking procedures on boats now so the titanic sinking also saved many lives because of that
I think you're missing the more obvious Film Theory here;
Jack is a time traveler, sure.
I love this theory!!! This needs waaaaayyyy more likes.
Yep just rose basically ruining everything, making almost 2k people die, messing up time, making us cry. You know normal things.
What
This is genius
I love it
Jack's presence on the Titanic actually caused the sinking in a simpler way: if the lookouts hadn't been distracted by watching him and Rose kissing, they would have seen the iceberg a few seconds earlier and the Titanic would have missed it.
Ever seen HISHE
HAHAHA
But another thing would eb that after going back to search the crew would have noticed the lack of binoculars in the crows nest
I'm no mathmatologist, but I'm pretty sure that's their fault.
MatPat: JACK IS A TIME TRAVELER LOOK AT ALL THESE HISTORICALLY INACCURATE THINGS IN THE MOVIE!
The people who worked on the movie: Yeah..... Definetly on purpose.....
Yeahh I was thinking of the same thing😂
Kola Bright what does that have to do with this though?
More fun though

11:33 details early in this part should be mentioned,is Britannic which got blown up by a mine
Makes more sense

Me: Well, if old Rose is telling the story of Titanic, then it would make sense some locations and dates don't aline because she forgot what Jack said and tried filling in the blanks herself...
MatPat: *TIMETRAVEL*
Edit: let me clear something up.
LOL
She was old enough to remember and write what happened in that ship, don't you think?
Yeah, I was about to comment this exact thing. She could easily misremember small details like a lake name, etc.
They need to release the 'Secret Director's Cut' with Jack in the alternate future preparing to go back in time
Forget Avatar sequels, James, give us this!
Lol imagine jack thinking: ok i gotta sink this ship, hey look at this lady trying to suicide, saving her would sure do the job
If he planned all this prior ( the ticket saga and the plan to sank) any delay would be bad, so he had to stop it, maybe he was looking for suicide attempts while walking around the ship.
Prevent her death to cause more death to prevent even more death! Confused yet?
@@MrJackfaire I didn't read correctly and thought you were actually talking about real life and ngl I had an egsistental crysis for a minute lol
If he can time travel he probably just looped until he got a good ending. After all, if mat's theory is correct, every time he fails he ends up safe and sound since the ship doesn't crash so he can just time travel/jump back to before the poker game and try again.
