    I am convinced there is a man that's probably 90 years old now living in area 51 that was solely in charge of adjusting windows and installing weatherstrips in 87 to 93 convertibles back in the day and they keep him in a Hanibal Lecter cage after he lost his mind from all the years doing this ,if you have one of these cars and you wake up one morning and say to yourself "man that weatherstrip has a little crack in it, i think ill change it" DON'T, leave it be until it has to be absolutely done and dont fuck with any adjustments on anything unless it needs it bad.
    I love these cars and at the present own a vert and a hardtop and Ive had plenty of them over the years, the convertibles will test you patience like the vault at Fort Knox,babysitting 7 screaming kids?no worries,Ive worked on a convertible windows and weatherstrip, i can take anything,ill file 1 inch piece of steel down to a 1/8 with a ladies nail file before messing with any window adjustment in these cars,now a hardtop?? piece of cake.

I am really dredding the repair as I have already gotten the side panels out car just waiting on the kit from lmr.

    Started doing this today. Not too bad. Took an hour to pull both sides apart, took another hours to replace the bushings and the bottom mounts, an hour to reinstall and then 3hrs to adjust both sides to perfect. Yea, it was a PITA but in all honesty as long as you take pics of everything and don't rush its not too bad. The adjusting was frustrating at times and I walked away a few times but all in all a job the is doable as long as you have some mechanical background. Glad I found this video for advice on what not to loosen up, that was the # factor that saved my day. Thanks for the video! Now to replace control arms, springs and beef up the stabilizer bars.

    Thanks for taking the time to document this process. It's been so helpful. I've watched it a number of times.
    One thing, I wish you had shown how you got the window out of the car. I've twisted and turned it every angle I can think of and can't get it to clear the inside body brace to come out. I replaced the bushings and cleaned it up 'in the car but it would have been easier out of the car.
    Thanks again for the video, it saved my life!!

    • @RaymondUrias
      @RaymondUrias  3 роки тому +2

      Awesome 👍
      To get the rod out you have to push the window all the way up and towards the engine bay as high as you possibly can and then you're going to push up on the rod and then you're going to pull it out kind of diagonally towards the engine bay area once the rod is out the window just comes right out through the same big opening. It's tricky but not that bad once you got the trick figured out.

    Fantastic video - thanks so much for these great instructions. Two deviations I made though. Easier to install new motor when that whole assembly is out of the car. And I STRUGGLED getting the rod back through my new bushings while it was attached to the base bracket. I took the rod out and it fit right into the window bracket THEN I mounted to the base while it was in the car. Neither way is easy, but for me it was easier than your method. Thanks again!

  • @jeffp322

    I think I can recite the video from memory now. My passenger side window got slower and slower until it wouldn't raise. Finally got it apart and jumped it with my 12V car starter and it was fine in both directions. Switch test resulted in 12v at the power connector. Cleaned up the contacts, added dielectric compound. Cycled the window at least a dozen times. Came back after about 2h and put the car away across our condo complex (0.1mi). Window wouldn't move. Motor couldn't be jumped. Switch still delivering power. Swapped the motor and it's working fine, go figure. The motor seems to labor as it moves up, so I will clean the actuator rod (it's a little sticky with aged grease) the best I can.
    This particular window has a ton of slop in it when it is all the way down, but the cant and tilt is where it needs to be in order to seal. Is the slop from a lack of pressure from the weatherstripping? Thanks, All.

    • @RaymondUrias
      @RaymondUrias  Рік тому

      Based off my experience and what you're describing, it sounds like the motor had not been replaced in a long time, which means that the original motor finally bit the bullet. But typically when the motor goes, the bushings that keep the guide rod in place begins to break up. Unfortunately this is going to require the removal that whole thing to replace those bushings. I really do wish that somebody would make those bushings out of a better material than that black flimsy stuff. Maybe some polyurethane material would be nice then you never have to do this again. Weather stripping plays big factor in the window alignment as well. If your weather is stripping is shot and you have none then there's no pressure being applied to the window to keep it tight. That's why if you read the forums or if you've ever done this before when you replace your weather stripping you have to realign that rear window all over again because it's going to put pressure on the window as it's coming up which is going to screw up the alignment. This is why I recommend to do everything all at once while you're working on that area of the car because more than likely you will never want to revisit that part of your car ever again lol

    Here is just an additional note in dealing with the removal of the top rear seat cushion.
    The factory design makes it hard to get to the bolts holding that cushion in place, both for removal and reinstall.
    The last time I remove the seats, I used perforated metal pipe strapping and created an extension for both the seat back and the flange that the seat attaches to. I then bolted those extensions to the flange and to the seat, then installed the seat and bolted the extensions together.
    It took about 30 minutes to do the initial set up, but now removing the seat bolts is about a one minute process! 😂

    Is there any adjustments to the regulator if the new motor gear doesn’t align back with the regulator gear when installing? The new lmr motor shaft seems to be the same length as factory but when bolted up is like 2-4 mm to short! If I get it to grab it slips off after window moves a few inches. Window worked perfect until motor stopped working just doing a motor swap but won’t align back up gear to gear! Thx

    • @RaymondUrias
      @RaymondUrias  3 роки тому

      There are no adjustments to the regulator that I am aware of. When you installed your motor you took the regulator out correct. You didn't install it while it had a load on it.

      Swapping out the hydraulic motor is not difficult it's a very dirty job you're going to get hydraulic fluid everywhere. If you have to replace the Pistons they're a little bit trickier when I recommend is pinching the line hopefully your line isn't old and doesn't brutally break. Then just swapping up the piston it's just a tough spot to work in
