I love how your videos go right to business, no bs, just information and sound tests. I'm debating getting some more Fairy switches for my work keyboard, as much as I adore my Frozen Silents I'd rather risk Fairies on a board that might get swiped, even if the chances are almost zero. Cheers to you and your website, you do great work and offer an incredible service!
I just want to thank you deeply for this video. I’ve been looking for silent switches, and this was the best. Thanks for the back to back. Sound test as well.
Nice list, please make a list of the best marbly switches next! I got the Gateron beer from your recommendations and I love the hard and marbly bottom out thanks to your videos
Awesome video - really helpful. Appreciated. Below are my faves. Adding the timestamps so I can listen back and forth between them. Jerzzi Honey Bean 6:50 Akko Penguin 7:15 Akko Fairy 7:20 Gazzew U4 7:40 TTC Silent Frozen 7:45
Very nice video: zero fluff and directly to the point. I have just one wish for the future: make separate videos for tactile and linear switches. I think I'm not in minority when I absolutely want to have either linear or tactile switch and the noise comes only after choosing the general type of the switch. And I think it would be better to explicitly say if a silent switch is silent for bottoming only, or for both bottoming and uplift.
After watching this, I decided to go with the Akko Fairy, and have been really happy with them. They are so quiet, I now feel obligated to do some work on my spacebar, since it is not like the others.
I absolutely adore and can vouch for the TTC Venus. I have tried many switches over the years and the way I built them into my everyday typed (QK100) they sound absolutely heavenly. They’re quiet enough that the sound isn’t annoying, but also have a nice creamy thock that I want without them being too harsh. TTC is a manufacturer I look forward to seeing more of in the years. I’m considering making a travel board with silent bluish whites we’ll see.
I got the Neptunes which are basically the same switch. I love how the switch sounded and felt in hand outside the board, but the bottom-out just felt really strange to me once I put them in my board. I'll def try them on different boards to see if it's any different, but for now I'm kinda turned off on them for a bit. It's super hard for me to explain, but almost feels like more than one part of the stem is bottoming out but slightly uneven. Because of that it actually feels super uncomfortable to me to bottom these out when typing, which is unfortunate because the stem movement is super smooth and I do like the overall sound
@@leftcoastfunk I can’t say I had exactly this experience but with the Venus I did have a half a day point where like coming from almost exclusively using táctiles I missed the bump, but I got used to it quick.
The camera angle(s) you use and the little description box on the lower left bottom of the screen looks awesome for sound demos. Very aesthetically pleasing. Keep it up! EDIT: The TTC Silent Frozen (V2) are amazing!! I was trying the Gateron Zero Degree switches and compared to non silent linears yeah very quiet. But TTC SF’s have a quietness to them I did not think was possible and that also feel good too. They are even quieter than the Gateron Zero Degrees. And they illuminate RGB lights like crazy! If you looking for THE silent switch and happen to use RGB lights on your board go with the TTC Silent Frozen!
Bought some silent frozens from you a month or so ago and hot damn, I love them so much. They've been my everyday switch at work and they are a hit. Never heard a complaint about sound (they're quieter than most membranes) and people ask to try typing on it all the time because they love the feel. Honorable, and weird, Mention for the Outemu silent limes. Crazy light silent tactile switch that i've been using to game after the GF goes to sleep.
Have you had any issues with the silent frozens not fitting into any of your plates? I've only tried them in one of my boards so far but the sides of the switch literally wouldn't go through the plate :(
@@leftcoastfunk I threw them in a monsgeek m6, which is an ALICE layout, so there's generally plenty of space. I didn't have any real troubles, but it did seem like a bit of a tighter fit than some other switches. What plate were you working with? That's so disappointing because I feel like you would likely enjoy using them. I assume you're experienced but, just in case, how hard did you push? I was definitely worried I would break them, but they snapped into place easily with a little oomph.
@@russ2120 I'm a bit experienced (built about 9 boards anywhere from a KBD67 to a Mammoth75, have tried/used around 30 different switches, and every type of plate I'm aware of except copper). I was trying this switch in my Hope75x with POM plate. It definitely would not go through the plate - at least not without pressing hard enough to create fear of absolutely blasting the hotswap socket across the universe (yeahhh I decided not to push that hard) I expected it to still go in even if it needed more oomph than usual due to the soft plate, but no-go. Maybe the plate was TOO soft lol. I was trying it on the built board just because i was only going to try a few switches and that board is a pita to disassemble, but that did make it so I couldn't really support the plate while I pushed. Perhaps that's the answer for the tight fit I'll try a couple other boards/plates and see what happens On the other hand, idk if I even WANT silent switches lol, but I thought they'd be fun to try out
@@leftcoastfunk okay then you know the tolerance better than I do! I got them exclusively to build one for work, so the overall quality was sort of a nice surprise. If you really love a good sound profile, they may not be as fun. That said, they "sound" as good as something silent can sound.
I've tried a few of these. The U4s are definitely the quietest, the Bluish Whites are a little louder, but have a longer feeling key press, and the ws silent tactiles are just as quiet on the bottom out, but really loud when you release the switch. I'm currently rocking the bluish whites because I like the longer keystroke
Thanks for your summary videos. I've been really enjoying them. And finally, the Outemu Silent Jades (Silent Cream housing in somewhat transparent housings?) are where they belong :)
Thank you for this video! I am getting 2 sets from your website, and I honestly think you should add a review for silent switches for the Kailh Prestige Silent switches! I am going to buy these as well, my husband and I work beside each other and love our thocky keyboards but it can get irritating in meetings being beside each other in work mode, so silents are essential for us and I'm obsessed with the feeling they provide. I've only tried the EPOMAKER Sea Salts and loved them so I began doing research. I LOVE how the Kailh Prestige Silent's have been sounding in any sample video I have viewed from HippyoTech and a few others. They do seem harder to find, but I am just getting them through Varmilo website.
Man I actually love those TTC Neptunes. Figuring out what I want to do for building my first keyboard and definitely will be ordering those from y'all.
Love the silent yellow jades, they're inexpensive, feel great, and have remarkably consistent factory lube with zero spring or leaf noise. Total winner.
I've been confused with the Jades (Said to be v3) and the Cream Yellow pro (V2). What's the main difference? The V2 had a difference in lubricant over the V1, as the V1 was thicker and slower.
@@yensteel you pretty much said it, if the yellow jades don't have spring/leaf noise then they are superior to the Cream Yellows. The Cream Yellow V2 decently lubed but even with proper hand lubing, they have spring and leaf noise. Yes, I did try all the different tricks to lube the leaf and spring to quiet the noise. It's in stark contrast to other silents like the TTC Frozen line which even dry doesn't really have spring or leaf noise.
I had assumed the silent frozens were quieter than the silent bluish whites because they’re more expensive (hence, the premium build) and they don’t have a tactile bump. That might still be the case, but it’s a really small difference. If anything the SBWs seem to have a higher pitch rather than being louder. Also the Venus and Neptune switches stick out like sore thumbs here. I know they weren’t meant to be specifically silent and I love the sound, but not quite sure they belong on this list…
Honestly IDK what it is.. The TTC Bluish Whites I love typing on, but I wish they didn't sound so scratchy. Maybe I'm misremembering, I'll switch them back into my Preonic tomorrow. I've been running Kangaroo V2's lately.
I am currently using the Kailh Deep Sea Silent Whale.....I previously had the ttc frozen silent v2, but the tactile definitely helps me out since the auditory feedback is very minimal.
Great review, help a lot, dont foget the keycaps play a huge role also, I went for Dye-Sub PBT keycaps, for the switches I went for the Gamakay Phoenix Switch .

I wish more companies would make electrocapacitive switches, especially ones that are silent. Probably my favorite sounding keyboard is a lubed HHKB pro 2 type-s or any lubed silent topre for that matter, but most of those keyboards start out at around $300.
Jerrzi Honey Bean for the win! With its price tag significantly lower compared to TTC Frozen's, you are getting the lightness and silentness of TTC's switch.
would be great showcase if you had used a db meter to record the actual noise at location so we could have real comparable data, because each of us can also use locally a db meter and really understand how quiet or not, these products are
TTC Rabbits are really great Silent Linears. Pricey, yes. But it is really ridiculously quiet, with great typing feel. I have yet to find anything better. TTC switches are also super well made.
Gateron Silent Ink Black v2 have stronger springs than most other silent linears I've tried (which is most of them) or Gateron Silent Yellow v2 are decent too, or spring swap anything you want.
Just ordered a keyboard worth of the Silent Frozens and 10 Silent Bluish Whites to see how I like those too, looking forward to making another board! I have the U4s and some Boba Gums in two other boards and there's a lot to love but also a lot I don't. Namely, with the U4s they have that ting when you tap them and the tactility is maybe a bit much for me. My Gums feel like a bad batch honestly, really scratchy and inconsistent even after re-lubing. Hopefully these work out a little better for me.
appreciate your doing these roundups / showcases of switches in different categories! Just curious, is there a reason you use an aluminum plate for silent switches in these comparisons? I’d assume folks pursuing a silent build would go with a material like PC that’s less resonant, though I acknowledge it’s likely PC wouldn’t accentuate the differences between switches as much alu.
The idea behind opting for a stiffer, louder plate is to show that even with such plates, silent switches remain silent, indicating that the silencing mechanism works regardless of the plate material. In practice though, for extra noise reduction, definitely use a softer plate instead!
How do Kailh's Deep Sea Silent Pro Islet (Linear) and Whale (Tactile) switches compare? I haven't seen that much about them, but they look like interesting options as well.

they're referred to as silent, but the function is more akin to dampened. instead of bottoming out a tactile switch where a hard surface meets a hard surface, there's a bit of a rubber cushion that insulates the impact. If you really want a switch that's more on the quiet side, you'll probably want to look at Linear switches, possibly with gaskets.
I got the WSSilent Tactile and they are wa more quiter than in the Video, i use them everywhere and they so nice and quit, almost like those membran keyboard you can buy for your tablet
