I was able to hear, respond, and talk across the (10) person table in a crowded banquet hall with a DJ blasting 90’s music, something I could not have enjoyed in the past! Thank you Dr. Cliff and Starkey, you both really care about everyone’s hearing!
Hello Dr. Cliff, Thanks so much for this review and for your many videos I've learned so much from. My hearing care provider recommended the Starkey Edge AI for several reasons, including the quality of the sound, which she said was less "mechanical" than that which Phonak produces. Since my last hearing aids were also Starkey (mid-level technology), she thought the transition to new ones of the same brand would be easier for me. I opted for the highest level of technology and, in short, I'm blown away by these new devices. My hearing has improved enormously--impressively in normal situations, and dramatically in background noise. I can now participate in cross-table conversations in noisy restaurants that, previously, I just had to sit back and be left out of. I'd pretty much reconciled myself to a life of poor hearing, but with the Starkey Edge AI devices, that's no longer the case. BTW, the provider does use best practices, including real ear measurement.
I've been wearing hearing aids for 8 years and have found them to be disappointing because of the background noise. So, in October of 2024, I tried the new Phonak Audeo i90 Sphere. They are not only AMAZING, but also life changing! In noisy restaurants I can now sit across the table from my Bride and hear every word she says. I'm no longer mute in crowds because I now can hear. Conversations are no longer just noise. I really like being able to stream music and also have the microphones on so I can hear when someone is talking to me, and being able to turn the microphones off when streaming while flying. The Automatic program is very good at turning on the Sphere program when needed. These hearing aids are the best!
Hi Dr Cliff. I just got my Edge AI from the DoD Health Care system in December. I have found that the edge AI aids have been an amazing upgrade and have been very capable, even in high noise environments. The edge plus mode just takes that capability up a step. I was prescribed the edge AIs specifically because they are NSA SCIF compliant when appropriately programmed by an audiologist, which is key for my current position.
I just did a 3-way comparison with my Best Practices audiologist. I tried the Oticon Intent, the Starkey AI w/ telecoil, and the Phonak Sphere. Every person's hearing is different. This is my experience. I have always worn Phonak HAs. Due to high-frequency hearing loss, I expected to do well with the Oticon Intent. Yet they were the worst of the three and ruled out immediately. The comfort level of both the Phonak and the Starkey is the same. I like the Starkey AI HAs very much. The discreet size of the Edge is a huge attraction. I don't need the telecoil, but my audiologist didn't have the smallest ones to try. The sound quality of the Starkey Edge isn't as natural as that of the Phonak Sphere. Surprisingly, in background noise, all three HAs sounded equal. However, we did not turn on the specific noise reduction aids in the Starkey and the Phonak HAs. That might have made a difference, The Phonak Sphere does amazingly well in Bluetooth. I can go at least 100 yards away from my phone before it cuts out. I don't know if the Starkey Edge AI would do as well. I haven't had the real ear measurement yet. I have to decide on the HAs that I will buy first. Drat. Does that make a big difference? I will ask to try them again with the noise cancellation on. Despite my vanity regarding the Starkey's small size, I am leaning toward the Phonak Sphere.
@@susangoodrichlerner7819 why would you even test them without Real Ear Measurement? Makes no sense testing hearing aids when they haven't been optimized.
Your comment on using the brand your hearing care specialist is best used to is important. I went through a failed attempt with hearing aids because of this. I switched hearing care professional to get the starkey’s because of this.

Great information, Dr. Cliff! Consumers with more severe hearing loss benefit from the telecoil option. Hurray for Starkey for including a Telecoil in one of their models. Kudos. Unfortunately Phonak hearing aids don’t have a Telecoil and there is no accessory with a Telecoil option either. 😢
@@juliettesterkens721 I think adding a Telecoil to the Roger On would be a relatively easy solution for Phonak. I'm surprised they haven't created a solution for Telecoil. Of course, they know their sales numbers and if they abandoned Telecoils, it is likely because demand just isn't there despite its value for individuals with hearing loss.
Cliff, how much better are these hearing aids compared with the Phonak Lumity? Would I really notice a difference with an upgrade or are the differences minimal? Your thoughts are appreciated?
Yes, occasionally I forget about activating the Starkey AI on my hearing aids, but usually remember when I realize that it’s right there on my phone. But once activated it’s amazing….
Have the Infinio Sphere's and cannot see how anyone thinks the hearing aids do not match the advertising Phonak put out. I have only had them for two weeks and was the only person able to hear a guide as we walked a factory at work, only person able to hear during a loud work lunch at a restaraunt, and even heard my wife great front row at a Jazz concert. I've worn hearing aids for over 26yrs (started in 3rd grade) and these hearing aids in spherical mode are so far and above anything I've ever used before. I have not tried the new Starkey Edge AI offering but if the phonak spheres continue to amaze me as they have already then I will suggest everyone at least try them.
@@spydercrabb1990 the problem is, people go to providers who do not properly setup and program their hearing aids. It truly is sad that people would not see the performance differences because they are going to the wrong providers.
My first hearing aids were from Starkey. Could I hear better, yes, but even after 6 years, I was unable to access all of the advertised features. Why, because Starkey is based on Apple platform and I use Android. The online research I did before purchasing my new HA led me to believe they still are predominantly Apple based. Also, the Starkeys are more expensive. I tried the Phonak Sphere 90s and truly was amazed by how much they reduced background noise. I also love the AutoSense feature of the Phonak. I didn't want to have to manually adjust or choose a program in each environment I went to, and my Phonak Spheres do that and do it well. The Spheres, with a firmware update, have Auracast, when that becomes available, not sure about Starkey. The last point, I put my HA in at 0630, and when I go to bed at 2200 to 2300 that night, they still have more than 50% power left. I do not do lots of streaming, and I'm sure that has some bearing on power usage.
