SWATCH is kind of of watch now that is best to be overlooked. Good luck with the Sistem 51 irony automatic or even the Flymagic. Great ideas in the automatic movements, however since the COMCO issue mostly everything went quartz in their line of watches. Not that they're bad, but I would like to see more of their mechanical ones as well. When it comes to service of they're all metal Sistem 51 irony automatics, you can't even get a replacement movement or its extremely hard to get if something were to go wrong. Their Nivachron hairspring was a good idea, but it came close to a struggling moment for SWATCH.
The old Bulova Accutrons had a quick access battery door. The reason watch companies probably don't include it is that it adds to the part count, it's another place to leak, and taking off a normal case back just isn't that difficult.
I like the transition at 1:36 Jody. I like how you have continued to refine your videomaking, which was already superb, to keep things visually interesting.
I picked up my blue/gold Invicta Pro Diver for $30 on a black Friday sale a few months ago and I have had no issues with it whatsoever. It seems well made, has a Seiko automatic movement, and it looks good on my wrist.
I’ve always loved watches but I fell down the rabbit hole badly the last 6 weeks and have bought 5 watches and am stopping myself from ordering a Duro every hour of the day. Thanks for your knowledgeable content, and without pretension is so refreshing. My collection will always be on a budget. 😉
*Listens to intro, staring at Jody's T-shirt* *Reads it left to right* *Reads it top to bottom* 'YDH...TS...??' "...not sure the slogan works on a T-shirt though" Ah-ha!
I'm glad I watched this vid. I think you made a good point about the MechaQuartz movement. I didn't realize it was in so many budget watches. It's a gem. I have the Pagani Cocktail Time and it's a great watch.
I’ve got a number of your top 10 Jody, including the Pagani, Cadisen & Casio. Unbelievable value in our $60 or less! I also have a Swatch from circa 1986, with “Halley’s Comet” on the dial!🤣 Bought by my sister as a birthday present. Still ticks along even now.👍🏻😍😎
I went to an actual shop in Moscow today, and picked up a white dial Scuba Dude for $50 . There was a whole display case full of cheapo Komandirskies , every one of them just under $30. Nice to feel a watch, even if you're wearing rubber gloves. The Amphibia came on a good rubber strap. The other things had straps or bracelets that would have been banned during the Spanish Inquisition, as no one might have expected. To add to the torture, all the low-spec Ks come without self-winding but with the famous Vostok date complication (pay an extra $10-15 for a 2416b auto movement). Great list, Jody. Thanks!
Completely agree about Wenger. I picked up a field style watch at a local close out store for $45. Sapphire coated crystal, signed crown, sec hand hits the markers, good strap, nice brushed and polished case...best of all those two words at the 6. Agree with the neg...it is a bit big but great value for money.
The Duro is my favorite on this list. I own all three colors. I hope Casio comes out with a white dial version. I agree that the lume needs to be improved on. Also even though it might increase the price a bit, I'd like to see a backlight like the Super Illuminater Casios have.
absolutely LOVE my Vostok Komandirskie classic. it's hilarious, it's fun, it keeps time, and it blends in just well enough that my the folks in my office don't see the tank on it..
Just wanted to say thank you for all of the entertainment and reviews over the past year. Keep up the great work! Do you have a favorite (or favorites) understated watch that's bit of a sleeper hit?
For all my watch collecting, videos and commenting I had trouble walking out the door this Summer without my $20 Casio W96H-3AV Illuminator on my wrist 😎☀️Well I switched it sometimes and went crazy with a $40 Timex Ironman 💪🏼 Keep up the great work Sir 🤙🏼🇺🇸
You are one of the few UA-camrs that mention Wenger, and this is great. It is swiss made, affordable and durable, from my own experience. Very underrated brand,If i am not mistaken, now owned by Victorinox. Thanks for the video !
I used a pencil eraser / a 300 grit sanding block/ the. Used a mix of a steel Brush and rubber dremel abrasive to get rid of the shine on the Cadison bracelet to give it a satin like finish ... came out nice , it’s now attached to a custom Invicta 8926OB custom I’ve built/ deleted crown guards / emblems delete all over the case and custom seiko abolone dial from ali, with ceramic insert and miyota 821a
I paused as soon as I saw your t shirt, I gave up after a couple of minutes trying to work it out and then you told me!!! Love my gold and black Duro by the way. Great video about great value watches as always, thanks Jody!!! :)
Hellloooo Jody, just gotta say that you're my favorite watch guy on youtube, the lack of pretention, and your enthusiastic often hilarious delivery...plus I spent some time in Glasgow and got to love and even adapt that accent a bit (lost it since).
Great video 👍, personally i currently have mostly been buying watches in the $100 to $275 price range as i do like to have a wide variety to wear. However it is great to see a video focusing on lower range watches and providing lots of nice details as these are typically ignored by other watch You Tubers that i find tend to focus and push much more expensive watches (many which are very boring and mediocre just simply way more expensive). I almost bought a Wenger recently but instead spent more and got a Bertucci field watch as i really like the look of the Bertucci and wanted a titanium field watch with 200m water resistance. Good show 🙂
I love the Cadisen, it may be one of the cheapest watches I own but it's also one of the nicest. I've had very few or no comments on most of my other watches but for some reason people seem to really like the cadisen and find it classier than it's budget price would suggest.
Great list Jody. I bought my Casio Duro a year ago and am very happy with it. One thing though, if you can get hold of a Casio DW 291, do so. I think for the price it is a great buy. It is definitely on my buying list.
Got to love the cheaper stuff. I wish I still had the Timex that got me through 5 years in Scouts as a kid. 50M water resistance, but never had a problem with it taking on water at all. The little (35mm, I think?) Citizen quartz day-date got me through high school, college, and a good chunk of grad school. Need to get a battery for it.
Thanks for mentoning swatch. I advise to pick one with time marks on dial or get used to unprecision in reading.. Even plain yellow is my "everyday friend" for summer days.If someone is not sure - go pick up used one. My oldest is from 1992.
If you’re struggling to find a $100 driver with good lune, check the Orient Ray. I have the Ray II, which I picked up for about $120 USD, and the lime on it is incredible. If you can find it for $100, DEFINITELY get it!
Duro was one of my first watches. Still looks great and I reach for it when I need something for the wrist immediately and no messing with winding and setting the time.
Great list and +1 to Swatch...I’ve still got 2 originals from the new wave 80’s and my sons bought me a Sistem 51 auto recently. It’s a nice change from the 200g dive watches.
Jody, you are at your best in these videos identifying low cost but high quality watches. A lot is weighing on you :). I only buy watches that you recommend. Keep up the good work. For price conscious people like me this content is lot more relevant than a Rolex.
Love your channel. Let’s face it, most people don’t know a Rolex from a Timex. That why I like my blue Duro. From 50 feet, it’s a submariner on a rubber dive strap.
So..... I do love my Aquatico Bronze Sea Star and Blue Angel watches, but right now I’m rotating between all 3 Casio Duro’s..... original on a black strap, blue on a blue (blu shark) strap and gold edged on a home made leather strap.
My Casio Duro is still a regular on my wrist, despite many more expensive and "better" watches. It just looks good, is comfortable, and doesn't need babying. I'm yet to get a blue one.
I have the Duro, it’s one of my least expensive watches but it gets a lot of compliments and it’s reliable. But yes switch out the band for a nato strap
@justonemorewatch, you should check out TITAN, its an Indian brand and really well respected. High quality well made durable watches and quite reasonable. (this is not a paid promotion)
That timex strap I bet is a really good strap red wing here in the United States is a premier work boot manufacturer just for them to put their name on something says a lot. They were making boots for Carhart they decided to get cheap redwing refused to make them anymore
Congrats Man your vídeos are the best, just a hint for the community, I bought a Pagani (submariner) and I replaced the bracelete with a Barton Silicon Quick release strap, Barton is amazing but oddly the one that fitted was the 21 mm . The 20 mm esse too narrow, if you want to pass that hint, there we Go. Best Regards, Marcos Ferreira from Brasil
Must admit I've not considered any watches below a few hundred quid for a couple of years & just watch for entertainment and coz I like you..but some pretty compelling pieces here. Cheers mate 👍🏻
Good to see Swatch make the list. I have an automatic 'Irony' from the late 1990's fitted with the 'exclusive for Swatch' non-hack ETA 2842. I think you should do a special Flik-Flak type review aimed at the first watch bought for bairns. I still have my 26mm boy's Timex.
Me gusta tu acento escocés . Tengo que volver a retomar el estudio de la lengua inglesa, pero sería chulo hablar como un señor de Inverness. Saludos desde el norte de España 🇪🇸
Bought my first SWATCH in the 80's from Woolworths in Kirkcaldy at Christmas for 20 squid. Loved it though it ticked really loudly. Wore it for years and I wish I knew what I did with it.
Always trust a Scot to give you the best in frugal shopping. I've got a blue Loreo homage and its champion. Same for my Vostok Amphibia (blue diver guy). I had original issue swatches, all of which lasted a minimum of 10 years. (well before this battery change bonus) some of them even still work. I just wish they could be repaired.
Definitely wait for the Cadisen C1032 to go on sale! I picked mine up on the metal bracelet with an extra leather band for £31! Definitely worth it! I love it!
Great video! I love a good bargain. Found a great one the other day at the thrift shop. Swiss air force 9g-400 chrono for 10 USD. Basically new. Still had the plastic cover on the case back. Just got a new battery for 3 bucks and off it went. 300 dollar watch for 13 bucks haha
For *62 USD* I just bought a *Casio Edifice EFV-100D* with a black dial on the *German* Amazon.de (53 Euros) and free shipping. Considering the reviews I´ve just watched on YT and read on reddit it really seems like a quality watch for that price, from a manufacturer we know has great quality.
I love your channel. It’s interesting to see watch collecting from a non-rolex or ridiculously over-priced watch perspective. Yes Those high end watches are amazing, but not all can afford that sort of watch (well not anyone really). One watch I am amazed you haven’t covered is the Lip Nautic Ski. Either the original vintage version with the R184 electronic (that’s electronic not quartz) movement, nor the update contemporary version which uses a pretty typical eta automatic movement I believe. Both the vintage watch and the current automatic watch can be bought for less than £500 (or at least that’s how much I have found them for). Lip is a really interesting french brand with some lovely designs especially the aforementioned super compressor diver (the Nautic ski). Jaques Cousteau and his dive crews used them.
I'm sure you can relate Jodie, it's always a bit depressing to see things in USD at a nice price like 60, and then see the conversion into your local currency for decently more.
Not sure but I think Jody's shirt is displaying some of the phrases you would hear around Glasgow at 2 in the morning.
Between a Scotsman and a Welshman, it's possible y see it one time
🤣🤣 I've been there and said that.... 🍻🥃🍺🍷🍻🥃
This is so true 😂😂 Whenever Im back at Scotland, the first thing I notice is drunk Scots at 2am making noise in town
Yeah that t shirt is pretty applicable here in Oz too. Well for that matter, any bloody pub at 2am!🍻🤪
I was puzzling over that.
Casio should make a 40mm Duro
Actually some of the Ali shops will get it done if you buy 10.000 of them....
Yeah, I'd love to have a Duro but they're way too big for my wrists sadly.
With decent lume....
38mm and 40mm Duro, would sell like hotcakes
Eigedomsskatten bgw9 please.

Why not just "good affordable watches"?
It took me until the end of the video to decipher Jody’s t-shirt! 😝
Who needs a Rolex when you can get one of these babies
The quick change battery cover on the Swatch is an excellent idea - dont know why more companies dont do this.
It's a brilliant feature. I think some digital watches did have it back in the day?
Tons of vintage watches had it. Look at any old Timex for example.
SWATCH is kind of of watch now that is best to be overlooked. Good luck with the Sistem 51 irony automatic or even the Flymagic. Great ideas in the automatic movements, however since the COMCO issue mostly everything went quartz in their line of watches. I love the lack of pretention on your channel
Scottish. Not we're not exactly famous for being pretentious. Unless you count The Grange in Edinburgh, but that's technically an English salient.
I like the transition at 1:36 Jody. I like how you have continued to refine your videomaking, which was already superb, to keep things visually interesting.

Jody's next challenge; Top Ten (modern)Seiko that are worth their price - But their chapter ring has to be aligned!!😁
impossible
Worth their price is where that challenge ends, don't even mention alignment.
Give the man a chance!
Carole Baskins Husband That’ll be a very short video, LOL
I had to put my Swatch in my friend's shed two blocks away every night, as the ticking kept me awake 😂
This is a real problem in their plastic range. My girlfriend takes the swatch out my watch box and hides it in the study it's so loud.
But how did he manage to sleep?
I got my buddy a timex and it's the same deal hahaha

@@russb24 Lol, I did the same.
Interesting how prices continue to rise but wages stay the same.
Also interesting how CEOs continue getting richer while their workers receive the same wages from decades ago

An interesting use of the word "interesting" there for certain 🤔

Very nice selection Jody, I love my Cadisen and my square G-shock and would love to own one of those Wenger field watches!
You can brush the cadisen bracelet easily at home with scotch brite pad, cost pennies and you can refresh it every time you catch a scratch.

I'm sure you can relate Jodie, it's always a bit depressing to see things in USD at a nice price like 60, and then see the conversion into your local currency for decently more.
Great selection 👍 thanks Jody
