A lot of people think it’s just about commiting but it’s not. It’s about the prep work, it takes practice. Start on flat or something more mellow, then work your way up to the big stuff as you get better.
It’s a lot easier than just telling yourself to do it bahaha

I would definitely recommend reaching forward when you are first learning. the biggest way people fall while dropping in is by leaning back

The first time I tried a drop in I put my face in the concrete because I over-committed... I never had the leaning-back problem.
That happened to me but on a bigger ramp where you can role into it

I learnt the hard way. I’d never seen a video and tried to drop in off of a 3ft drop. I didn’t know which way the lean so I leant backwards.. bad idea. Didn’t work 💀

My favorite tip is to lean forward like your going to grab the nose of your board but don’t grab it
After dropping in forever I tried teaching someone to drop in on flat and I literally fell foward 😭
Yeah, I only practiced dropping in on a mini ramp and I have a scar on my elbow from one of the several times I fell. For sure, start small.

have someone hold on to you as you go down that way when you mess up you don’t fall and quit!

Wisest advice for skateboarding:
"Start small and you won't get hurt!". Seems like the first thing everyone wants to do on a skateboard is kickflip and drop into massive bowls. You gotta stick to the basics until you got them down like breathing.

Dropped in for the first time today. First try I fell backwards, second try forwards, but on the third try I got it. In the end no big deal! :D
Leaning forward is safest, standing straight up is doable, leaning back you're playing with fire.

Kids have no idea how good they have it now when it comes to UA-cam tutorials. When I was a kid we just had to learn from others in real life
Or thrasher magazine!!! But in the 80s it was mainly pictures and not so much how too tips. If it weren't for thrasher my brother and I woulda been skating Nash boards for ever

Started small, tried flat then mellow. Got hurt down a 4ft quarter wasnt forward enough. Got some elbow pads now for next time 😅

Easiest trick but one of the scariest for beginners
A skater let me use his skateboard and I learned how to drop in and it was my first time basically except from when I was 6 years old but I kept on falling on flat

Put all your strength on the front leg and instead of thinking about what might happen think about how good you are at skating
The problem about starting small in a skatepark is that there are only tall drop ins no small ones

I tried a tiny ramp and by some miracle didnt break my hand by falling backwards and slamming on it while its tensed up, what these tutorials fail to mention is the difference between a bank and a ramp, for a bank you dont have to lean foward too much to ride it down, for a ramp you have to match the angle. Take some time to stand on the ramp to figure out the angle to turn your body to and commit
i tried dropping in i leaned too forward and smashed my right cheekbone into the floor
I have better advice
1: put half your back foot on the tail
2: put your other foot over on one of the screws at an angle
3: lean your shoulder over your front foot and stomp as hard as you can but don’t take your front foot of
Bend your knees, keep the back leg straight for as long as possible, and COMMIT!

Or alternatively start big and get hurt, but definitely learn quickly
