I kinda wish Braille would wear helmets when they're skating, especially when they're doing more dangerous stunts because it would help normalize wearing a helmet.
The sweeping with the arms and the roll are by far the best to learn. As nice as sliding would be, in the real world without polished concrete and smooth wood it doesn't happen. You try and slide on regular skatepark concrete, a road or the street and your clothes and skin grip immediately and tear. The best thing is to curl up and hope that you roll it out. As it's said, "Speed has never killed anyone, suddenly stopping, that's what gets you". The more gradual you can slow yourself down, the safer you will be.
well said, luckily all my local skateparks have been remade or resurfaced over the last 5 years or so, and have very smooth polished concrete, i still dont fall well though, but its certainly better on that surface than it was. i need to learn the swipe and slide... and if i skated rough asphalt etc, the tuck and roll. ;)
Literally JUST NOW fell off my board for the first time since starting riding 3 months ago... I don't know how, but as i feel i instinctively recalled this video and pushed of the floor. Injury avoided! Thanks Carlos!
First fall after 3 months, you must be really lucky. Busted my lip on my second day which was my second real fall. I’m literally preparing to fall at least 5 times each day.
wish i would have had that info 30 yrs ago. When I was around 10 yrs old was "trying" to ride a skateboard down a hill, got speed, didn't know how to stop. Saw a wall in front of me and stuck my arms straight out. Suprised my wrists didn't end up in my shoulders! Never got on another board again. Love watching you all now, falls and all. Keep up the good work! I once thought skateboarding was just a "thing" but now see just how cool it really is!
It's never too late to resume skateboarding, i'm 43 years old and resume it at 43 a couple of weeks ago.. But i agree falling hurts more after 40 and my legs and my equilibrium are no more as sharp as they were 20 years ago ! Anyway i won't quit and keep trying tricks as before when i was in my 20's..
When I was like 13 or so I got talked into going to a skate park for the first time because it was the hip thing to do. I didn't own a board and had never been on one before yet for some reason my friends at the time wanted me to do a drop-in on a half pipe. After some convincing I agreed and posted up at the top. I had no idea what I was doing and they didn't give me any advice other than "it's easy." 3 seconds later I fell off the top of the half pipe and smashed my tailbone with max force. The pain was immeasurable, it felt like lightning was surging up my spine into my brain and then permeating through my entire body for A FULL WEEK! I never skated again since and my back has been in excruciating pain ever since that day. I wasn't able to play sports any more in school or do anything physical anymore either because it hurt so much just to stand up let alone run around.
Next tutorial on how to commit to get over the fear may be a good one, and I think i'm not the only one have troubles with that so it may help a lot of new skaters! Keep up the good work Braille!
Lilly. I am sorry, but they really can‘t help people to get over the fear of hurting yourself. It’s an instinct to avoid injuries. But if you skate, you just have to try to turn of your brain and just enjoy the moment. Before i landed my first Ollie down a Stairset i must have fallen a thousand times, but that‘s just part of the game. Just get up again and once you land a trick you‘ve been desperate to do, it is one of the best feelings you will ever experience.
personally it helps me to think in my mind like i already landed it and I'm just doing it again. Sometimes ill even tell myself im like married to the trick and pretend im like a 40 year old man who just married a trick and no matter what happens i can't just cop out because im scared because my mom won't let me move back home.
I like this channel but this is lame: About helmets: "dont do what we do, do what we tell you to do" That never works. Aaron: "You are not looked down as a beginner if you wear a helmet. Use the gear" But also: never wears a helmet himself. 7:11 And also Carlos:" Wear a helmet if you feel you are a beginner and enjoy free skating once you mastered it." There is a contradiction: you are not looked down as a beginner, you will be looked down as a beginner..... Tony Hawk is a better role model.
they're saying that if you feel like you want to protect yourself, go for it and don't feel bad about it just because some losers think it's uncool. but also, you have the choice of not wearing, although it's probably a better idea to wear protection if you're a beginner
Mike Vallely is a great role model for wearing helmets. A badass old school pro skater that not only encourages people to wear a helmet, but wears one himself too. Walks the walk.
Why should they have to wear helmets it’s a personal choice I can’t stand all these helmet police like it’s skateboarding it’s supposed to be dangerous
I don't think it's a green screen. It's a camera trick. The camera is far away, the subjects are away from the wall, and they zoom in to get rid of the extra background and get the subject in frame. If you watch The Office - "Survivor Man" there are a few shots where the scene is close, but the camera zooms in/out to show how far it actually is.
If the green screen was for better audio quality and why have it there I sought any one would care what’s in the background, and they film in the normal area all the time so why even use a small room
alien cheeks no I get it , don’t whooosh me. I said that because I was going to imply “man I wish my crush would care enough about me to watch me skate “

The parkour roll is the way to go. I use it a lot in my videos. I am 36 and just starting to learn, so I fall A LOT. But being able to disperse the impact energy makes it easier. Oh and if you are not sure WEAR PADS!!! #helmetgang
I fell today rlly hard trying to power slide and after that I just pick my skateboard and go home I lose all my confidence after falling makes me don't wanna skate no more for that day (my hand is okay but it hurts like a b*tch)
neighbor tomorrow looks at my garden and wonders why I'm throwing myself, sweeping and rolling on the grass ... well, I'm coming back to skateboarding after a 15 years pause... am sort of scared of injuries. thanks for the video! good tips
Yes it is embarrassing, safety is for pussies. "Hospital bills, broken bones, and worried parents is totally rad; worth impressing some stranger's" Come on man they talked about safety gear for half of the video!
If someone is having a bad enough day to judge you, then be glad that you are having fun unlike them. As a skater, I love seeing beginners (assuming you are sorry if I’m wrong) start skating as it shows how much it’s growing. Any skater will love to see a board under your feet protection or no protection.
@@jydy5683 cringe mate, spend 20 bucks on a parkour lesson and they will teach you how to fall. Helmets are fine but you look like a tosser with anything else.
I sprained my knee after falling forward and locking up my knee to stop the force, but that didn’t work so after that I instantly fell forward and slammed my knee in the concrete gravely road
You guys touched on it in the end about being healthy, but being in good physical shape has a huge impact on being able to walk away from a fall. Not only stretching and being limber, but also muscle mass helps build bone density which means less chance of breaking a bone. Being an old ass man, my advice to anyone wanting to start skating or get back into it, who is not in the best physical shape, is to cross train. Ride a bike, do yoga, lift weights, go for a run, a walk, or even ripstick it up(please don't), whatever it takes to get the body moving, and your chance for injury goes way, way down. Plus the better shape you are in, the higher you can ollie, it's science.
Same, but I'm guessing you're already in good shape and pretty good at skating. My comment was more meant for people who maybe weren't in the best of shape and wanted to learn to skate. Shred on!
My brother used to have a plastic mini ramp. When I would drop in on it I aimed it towards the grass, practiced, then proceeded to concrete. Using grass doesn’t make you lame. Whatever you need to do to build confidence, do it. Love these videos guys. Keep em’ coming 😊
This is going to be me when I get my first board and start riding I have no balance and have always been afraid of anything like skateboards or roller skates but I've decided to get over my fear and for the first time break some bones and cry a lot

Thank u guys, for those "fall" suggestions. I am a new skate boader, and I am determined to keep going, learning to fall properly and overcome my fears. Thank u again!
Is always good to hear advices from experienced skaters. I feel that a skater have to ride as many times on the week as possible. This will bring more comfortable as you stand on a board. I came back skating for one year now and I'm learning evey day that I ride. I've learned to fall better and better, don't hurting myself really hard. Thanks for a great video.
I’m 58, I had precisely last skateboarded when I was about 5. I’m a teacher and just recently taught my students about Tainan skateboard culture here in Taiwan. So, I decided to get back into skateboarding. I was playing around today when my skateboard flew out from under my feet and I was instantly slammed to the ground knocking my breath out. I’m pretty sore right now but I will be back at it tomorrow, thanks for the video.
@@brailleskateboarding it’s slower going than I had anticipated. Broken ribs, six fractures in ribs 5, 6, 7, & 8. Still, I doubt it would heal any better or faster if I had just given in and sat around throwing myself a pity party.
I did a kick flip and landed primo... hurt my wrist and stopped skating 4 6 months, and jow I'm getting back it to it and after watching this I'm not scared to fall anymore.... thanks braille
I appreciate all the Braille videos. After taking 20 years off from skateboarding and only recently getting back into it these past 2 years, I needed to relearn things and get encouragement. I am also part of a 3 person team (The Active Grind) in the Nashville-Franklin-Spring Hill Tennessee area. We are guys in our late 30's early 40's who got back into skating and are helping kids aged 5-14 learn and pursue skateboarding. I quickly had to step up and relearn a lot in order to be able to help teach these kids and these videos have been great.
Actually he helped me the most by telling the story about his broken foot and continued skateboarding couple of months later. bc I litteraly broke the same bones just two weeks ago and feared that I wouldn’t ever be able to skateboard anymore 🙈 You really got me cheered up again, thx all of you guys for this video, even if it’s 3 years old already!!

Most embarrassing thing is falling in the middle of the streets and you see the cars seeing if they should help you or not and you’re just like “I’m ok” *dies in slow pain*
I'm 31, recently got back into skating after a 10 or so year hiatus. Was going to a local skate club run by a local legend and pro and on my second week there I was trying the 2ft mini ramp out (whoops) and slipped out when coming down switch, threw my left arm out to catch myself, went stiff and broke my shoulder socket (bigger whoops). I've had surgery to pin it all back together and should be good to go in another month. I definitely should have paced myself more and learned to ragdoll rather than go stiff and throwing a single arm out. It's not put me off skating at all and I'm desperate to get back to it! Thanks for the video!
Get well soon dude :D im 33, started skating like 2 years ago with an electric skateboard to just chill and cruise around. Drove 2000km without a single accident or fall.. until a taxi drove over the board.. but this instantly made me realize HOW MUCH I loved skating... I had that freak incident with the taxi but I managed to hop off before it drove over it.. but being without a new board for 8months was HORRIBLE... I just so wanted to chill and ride again every single day... Got a cheaap ass board for a second, fell from it a couple of times, still wanted to ride even more. Now finally got an amazing board, smooooth as butter ride and noisless and 30-40km\h.. it is soooo good to chill and just ride man. Find it funny as I started this so late, guess mostly that I always wanted to more chill and ride then do tricks but living in a flat city a regular longboard made no sense for years.. until the electrics finally started to appear. Best purchase in my life I think lol.
This is really profound in many ways... applies to both literal and figurative falls. "I want to learn... scary... try it... get over that fear." Fear of trying anything new... a relationship, a job, a sport...
I love how Aaron thinks that I’m smart enough to protect myself from falling when in reality it takes 2 mins to realize I’m falling then processing it😐
Aaron and the braille team thanks for all the videos. For a 40+year old dad who has a couple of daughter's interested in skating, it has made it so much easier learning how to skate again. Thanks.
I am terrified of falling and this has been holding me back for a while. After watching this video, I think I'll be less scared when trying to learn new tricks. Thanks!
i stoped skateboarding because I was so afraid of breaking my ankle, but ironic enough, I broke it when I was doing gymnastics 5-6 yeas ago. I did a front flip 360 and I twisted my ankle so bad that I broke off the corner of the main bone in my leg. needless to say, ill start skateboarding again anytime soon
if you don't feel comfortable learning how to fall from a video, i recommend you take judo classes for a while, that's how i learned how to fall, it's the first thing they teach you.
Took a pretty big tumble on asphalt today after I paniced after going too fast, got a speed wobble, loss control, tried to step off but criss-crossed my legs out of human instinct, only to trip over myself and crash into the ground on my left shoulder, left forearm, and hands... Thought this video would equip me with "the skills" so I dont bust ass as hard next time. Glad to see that this was some pretty useful info, thanks guys
He skates huge ramps. Pads are necessary for vert. For street they are not practical. You can still hit your face or break bones with a helmet and pads.
I usually wear a helmet because I have the thought that when I fall on my back my neck will swing back and I’ll smack my head on the ground. Though most times when I’ve fallen I’ve noticed that I instinctively tuck and curl my head forward without thinking about it.
GREAT video guys! I missed this originally, but the message still holds true in 2021! I am 47 and just started skating again...I skated in the mid 80's thru the 90's and then stopped....just starting again and am going to wear protective gear for sure!
Thank you I’m really glad I found this video because the first time I tried skate boarding I went on a long board down my steep driveway and got a spiral fracture in my leg and I wanted to learn how to fall correctly without having to use crutches again.
You guys should build a mini-mega ramp to do grabs and stuff. Maybe a *6ft* ramp to a small quarter pipe ( not vert ) It was on one of these ramps where I tried an airwalk ( never done a grab this hard before, haven't even kickflipped yet )and rolled down the hip on the other side... I stilled rolled onto my feet at least
My skate shoes are so bad there is no grip anymore so when i do a ollie my shoe just slides off and i hit my nuts. I guess my shoes are holding me back but im still trying
Bro I’m telling u when people who are good at skateboarding fall it’s so cool cuz they do it so gracefully. When I fall I always hit my head and belly flop or just hit my knee or elbow so bad
in 1997, when I was 14, I was switch bombing a hill in hayward.. speed wobbles and fakie 4 wheel slide (I was told by my friend who was with me) sent me head first into a parked car which put me in a coma, broke my wrist and thumb. I had tears all over my brain and a tear in my brain stem, I also chipped my neck. died multiple times within the first few hours too. 2 weeks later when I was conscious and on my way to healing, I was sent to vallejo to go through rehab. all I did when I was there was watch skate videos and the shop I had been going to since I was little (the station, in fremont) sent me posters and videos. the day after I was released from the hospital I skated. the CHP confiscated my board from the accident scene (kelly hill is an unincorperated part of hayward) the doctors at the rehab center wanted me to wait at LEAST 6 months before I skated again but I had brought my board to my 2 month follow up appointment and noseslid the red curb to show that I was ready to skate again. I was told I had to wear a helmet from then on since I had a brain injury. skateboarding both took and saved my life. my balance is shit now and I gained a ton of weight and I can no longer skate like I once did. watching the braille videos gave me the itch to skate again, I still havent, but I want to. oh well.
oh boy! I Just fell down last week when I rode my board on a downhill and broke my jaw. Now I am in a huge pain and not able to eat and talk normally in the next few weeks. I am not sure if I should skate again, but I want to... you seems much more brave than me.
Thanks guys! Great video. I recently got a Boosted Stealth and definitely needed this video. I recently got a new helmet and got some wrist guards coming in the mail. I’m in SF too and am using my board mostly as a commuter vehicle and I know/dread the eventual hard fall at 16-24mph on our rough SF streets.
Today I broke my arm. That's why I am watching this video now. Ironically, I was wearing full set of protection, and the arm broke at place covered by the wrist protection. 1:34 confirmed. Thanks for the video, maybe I'll use your advice after the doctor will allow me to skate again.
A lot of the time in skateboarding pads make it worse it gives you a false sense of security. Bottom line is skateboarding is a tough sport your going to fall and sometimes your going to break stuff just the way it goes
Thank you so much for this video!!!! I'd kind of stopped trying because I had a couple of bad falls and started to really worry about the consequences. Can't wait to have these falls in my toolbox.
Great video this shit is important. I'm 30 and I started skating 4 months ago (apart from learning to ollie and shoveit when i was a kid) I skate every day and watch your videos every night to learn and keep hyped. I go hard for anywhere between 2 and 8 hours and I fall every day and use all of these techniques especially the roll and I try to jump straight back on the board out of the roll because why not. I juggle and play with fire and pyrotechnics so I need to keep my wrists good so thanks for talking about falling. Thanks for all the everything BRAILLE I have been binge watching for months and still a lot to get through I have liked and subd and I think I found all of you the other day in insta but never actually left a comment so I thought it's about time, do you think its a good comment? Braille has helped me with my mind state so thank you my G's I will come visit one day and do some crazy circus shit , Dee Jay
30+ year old skaters inspire me so much. Early twenties crept up and 2 two and half year breaks made 5 years off a board. Glad to see people still learning things at 30+. Really motivating. 🙌👍👍🤙

I am afraid most of the time while i'm skating, i just do it, just don't think about it
I have to correct myself. They just uploaded a video about commiting
U don't need a tutorial for dat itz all in ur mind 💯
personally it helps me to think in my mind like i already landed it and I'm just doing it again.
Use the gear"
But also: never wears a helmet himself.
7:11 And also Carlos:" Wear a helmet if you feel you are a beginner and enjoy free skating once you mastered it."
There is a contradiction: you are not looked down as a beginner, you will be looked down as a beginner.....
Tony Hawk is a better role model.
the point is that it's all on personal preference
they're saying that if you feel like you want to protect yourself, go for it and don't feel bad about it just because some losers think it's uncool. but also, you have the choice of not wearing, although it's probably a better idea to wear protection if you're a beginner
@@gh0stykinsno ong. 😂
Wait. Why are they using a green screen for an image of a wall that they have.
There’s a lot of echo in the Braille house. So if they do it in a room with a green screen the quality will be much better
Audio quality.
I just realized that.
If the green screen was for better audio quality and why have it there I sought any one would care what’s in the background, and they film in the normal area all the time so why even use a small room

I feel like ripsticks are barely acceptable. Scooters the real one here
Not really I don't stretch n I'm fine my way to stretch is to warm up with my actual tricks
Same, but I'm guessing you're already in good shape and pretty good at skating. My comment was more meant for people who maybe weren't in the best of shape and wanted to learn to skate. Shred on!
I'm getting back on the board after nearly a 10 year hiatus and I'm 42. Definitely not too old brotha!
I like the Fetty fall.
The way he falls can be used for more than just skateboarding. He's in an immediate position to pop back up which is crucial in a lot of sports.
Just crawl it out
I prefer the roll to double backflip out

Get better soon! props to you for getting back into it

Thanks man, I actually went back to the skate club last night to catch up with everyone and just to push around a lil! :)
This is really profound in many ways... applies to both literal and figurative falls. "I want to learn... scary... try it... get over that fear." Fear of trying anything new... a relationship, a job, a sport...

Look at Rodney Mullen the best sk8r Eva and he wore protective gear for almost his whole skate carrier

I am now not embarrassed of wearing of helmet after hearing the motivational speech. Thanks Aaron and Carlos.

back shoulder roll instead of slide, you don’t slide on rough terrain
