where are you guys from and how did you learn Cebuano? We filipinos love foreigners who learn our language and love our country. 😊 Good luck and be safe to you guys.
Thank you for the sweet comment. I'm Canadian but I've lived in the Philippines for many years. Gradually learning different languages. Cebuano is a fun language!
Fun fact, lansiao is originally lan chiao in chinese, meaning "penis". I discovered it when I brought my taiwanese student to a carenderia and he asked me to pick some bizarre food. Gipili nako ang lansiao then explained to him whats it all about and then he just laughed hard and said, "ahhh!! Lan chiao! In taiwan lan chiao is penis!"
Thanks for that explanation! I didn't know that . Now it makes sense. I guess lan chiao is a word in the Hokkien Chinese language, specifically, not Mandarin, because most of the Chinese who came to the Philippines (and also in Taiwan) were from the Hokkien-speaking part of southern China. Hence, most of the Chinese words that got adopted into Philippine languages, and even words of some food items (like siopao and hopia), are originally Hokkien words.
Thank you, glad you like it. I would say 1 month to learn your 30 most useful expressions/questions which could allow you to do basic things, and 6 months to become conversational.

Practice with native speakers is the best way. And do not worry too much about making mistakes when you are first talking. The point is to form whole sentences as soon as possible
@@firthm2 I got it in a dream and when I checked Google translate, it traced the word ignon to Cebuano origins. I don't have a clue what it means. I did not even know about this country until my dream.🤷🏿♀️
When I was growing up,my dad was a missionary We are Ilonggo but every two years, we moved so I learned and and could fluently speak 8 Pilipino dialects . But because I haven’t used it, I could not anymore although I can understand them. Just some words and this is so sad so from your vlog, I’ll try to recover some . I really like to speak again. Any advice on how to start? I still can speak: Hiligaynon, Cebuano, Tagalog, some Ilocano. I have forgotten: pampangueno, Panggalatoc, magindanao dialect, waray, fluent ilocano. It’s sad when you loose gifts of language that you use to know. I live in the states now and it is such a shame that most Children of Filipino parent/ s do not teach their children how to speak their native language. Are we the only race whose kids grow up not knowing their heritage? I hear Hmong, Vietnamese, Latinos children speak their parents languages but Filipinos... they don’t even know where their parent is from . Tragic and shameful, really.
yes, it is true that many Filipinos do not pass on their languages nor certain aspects of their culture to their children. That includes Filipinos overseas, and even some Filipinos residing in the Philippines. Many Ilokano parents do not even speak Ilokano to their children anymore...only Tagalog and English. It is sad.
Nevertheless, it is very impressive that you learned so many Philippine languages. Congratulations! With exposure and practice, you could relearn them quickly I think.

I like your videos a lot. I’m English and wonder how long if you live in Cebu would it take to learn the language ?
Thank you, glad you like it. I would say 1 month to learn your 30 most useful expressions/questions which could allow you to do basic things, and 6 months to become conversational.
I would say it depends on your age . If a foreign kid where brought to cebu in a year they would be fluent as a native . If your 60 good luck .
