Attempt 1: bongcloud and just go to the center as early as possible (got checkmated) Attempt 2: go normal chess first (i castled, which gave his king an advantage to get to the center) Attempt 3: normal chess, but don't castle (still far away from winning, skill issue i guess)
I love this variant. Played it quite a few times myself. There are definitely some strategies in King of the Hill that won't work in regular chess, but one of the few things that works best is to not move your king or queen too early. A queen is even more powerful in this variant than in normal chess.
Haven't played it myself, but it feels like knights are at least equal to bishops (instead of slightly weaker) due to their ability to control two center squares on the c3/f3/c6/f6 squares. Of course fianchettoed bishops can as well but the diagonals can get blocked.
@@lmabacus404 actually no. Knights are far more powerful in this variant.2 moves at the start and the hill is boxed off for the enemy king. With a bishop, these lines can be blocked but not with knights. But because they are so strong, they are also targets for experienced players.
Gigachad bongcloud is a fun concept. And while I would have liked you to move out with your king earlier, I recognize that not all wishes are realistic.

This would probably be a different story if the "No Check/Checkmate" rule was carried over from the Racing Kings variant.
The only other variant I remember at this point is 3-check chess.

why is the center lower than the rest of the board, shouldnt it be higher to be a hill
Even though king of the hill is on the variant server, doing it on the normal server usually gives you better opponents.

Theory doesn't stop with the Hyperbongcloud, there's also the Bongcloud - Pass the Bong variation.
