I’ve played quite a few 1800s. I’ve never seen games that bad. Like, I legitimately wouldn’t be shocked if they bought their rating. Or they were trolls. 100% never seen 1800s ever play so many dumb moves.

I hypothesize that since queens gambit and the explosion of chess, there's been a lot more competition at the 700-1000 levels making climbing a bit more difficult causing some weird skill variance.
It just hit me that this performance is a direct result of Levy's GM training.
He's been playing too much good chess, he forgot what us scrubs look like.

My theory is that the chess boom of last year raised the bar for everyone in the beginner-intermediate level. Your content has made it so that people rated 800 are playing 1200 -level chess, but by playing other 800s with similarly high abilities, rankings don't fluctuate to reflect improvement.
It feels it was easier to reach 1200 in blitz a couple of years ago than it is now.
Must be why I'm still stuck 🤣
This is probably why I am having such intense positions in 550 elo matches. I had a match where the position was basically one good move per turn and we did good with most of them it is crazy at the lower ranks atm

Levy's got a blind spot for the lower elo's. Y'all are underestimating how many of us have watched a ton of your videos and internalized a pretty deep sense of the overall strategic principles of chess, but are still sitting at like 700 because we blunder a piece or two each game.

@@lt422 And yet I call the lower elo games in this series pretty much every time, whereas Levy usually overestimates their elo because they're making good, solid moves he thinks are impossible for a six or seven hundred rated player.

At 5:00 what the kids were taught was actually the ASL word for "agree" or "same". You use the "Y" shape and then you move it back and forth between two things that you believe have the same attribute, so when you do it with an idea, it means "I agree with you"

I was the guy in game 1. Learned the opening by watching Levi Caro videos, completely missed the rook on b1, when my bishop was trapped I didn't realize until after the game that I could have won 2 pawns instead of 1. Thanks for the review Levi I defiantly took notes!
Edit: Also game was 15|10 not a 30 minute
When you took that pawn with bishop, i imaged it like you were trying to fork your opponent, but then realize that you're a you forking king and knight with knight.
@@HmmHmm-ve7ou No I just knew my bishop was trapped so I was going to do a desperado to try and get some compensation. I didnt realize that bishop to g2 instead would have resulted in 2 pawn compensation instead of 1 pawn either way the bishop was going to die tragically
@@jgreenbelt i dont think ur bishop was even trapped, your knight was comign to d4 with check, protecting the f3 square for your bishop just in time

I feel like Levy has a blind spot in his brain for 600-800 range, he either gives universal "around a thousand" guess or goes "yeah... fuck it 500".

The thing is, 500-800 is such an unclear spectrum. They all blunder all the time. It's impossible to tell.
you go from 400 to 800 in less than a week so theres no much deference between the ratings
@@Ninterd2 Generally yes but Levy can generally tell between 900, 1000 and 1100 - as a 1200 who went up from 800 I can barely tell the difference. So it has to be possible.
@@Chodor101 I'd say 900 or 800 is where you become an amateur at chess, rather than beginner. You know that attacking things is useful, but don't consider repercussions of careless play. But I could be talking out of my ass here. Levy can try to justify the moves by explaining why it's a good move, but if the follow up isn't what he thinks, he'll have to sort of figure out what strength a player has who would have a subpar or different plan.

I really like the people who submit games they lost, I mean it really helps to use your analysis to improve yourself! Its great!
Does Gotham not realize how much of a difference 3 minutes it vs like 10 minutes??? At this level you can get games with really bad accuracy because they're blitzing out moved without thinking. Then when you switch to 10 minutes you get 90+ %accuracy, especially. This guess the ELO should REALLY include knowing the time format upfront, there's a solid 200 rating point difference from 3 min to 10 min games
That's a great point. There can be a huge rating swing even among the same players simply because of which time format the game is being played in.
I think even more difference, with 1-3 minute games

One old game from me my opinion could get a queen for I think 10 moves by moving the pown to 8, and after this for 2-3 move capture a rock and get a queen. I won in the end

If Babbel is your jam, might I recommend Hinative (pronounced Hi native), where Babbel is for learning a language, Hinative is for polishing it. You can ask real natives of the language you're trying to polish your understanding of questions like "hey, is *this* the correct way to phrase *this* idea?" or "hey, is *this* the correct way to pronounce *this word* ?" and everything in between.

Levey's reaction @ 11:50 to 12:04 is priceless. ( my experience is that a 1200 can play up to 400 points higher than expected or as low as 400 points lower at times or in some cases, sometimes the higher is because they are actually an 1800 who bombed or sandbagged their rating points.
This really is my favourite series.

If only that -remove was the worst move of the game… h3 and a3 randomly at the 1800 level is enough to be losing if your opponent plays smart. Giving 2 free tempi… yeah.

Interesting. On the first game, I guessed 800, because that is my level in lightning (5+5), and I make blunders like that.
My puzzle rating is 1532 but when I dont have time to think deep I make exactly the blunders that they make in this game.
Lol was a 15|10 game and I was so pissed that I missed the rook on b1. I think my opponent played worse then me but yeah I usually dont do low time control because I like to make quality flashy moves like the rook takes bishop move to take the rook in the corner of the board.
