    Wow! An actual TEACHER on UA-cam? Amazing! So tired of these "Look at me!" speed paint videos disguised as tutorials and how to's. It's nice to see someone who knows what they are doing actually teaching people how to paint.

      Wait, others struggle with those vids too?!?! I thought it was me!!!
      I've been struggling & struggling, watching & painting dozens & dozens of beginner/easy vids from so many UA-cam artists who seem so much more interested in selling their merchandise (ie brushes, t shirts) than helping anyone learn. They imply/infer that by buying their exclusive line of ie brushes it'll magically transform you into a painting pro. They may be great brushes but there are no magic shortcuts.
      After dozens & dozend of painting to these vids with horrible results. I decided, just today, to box-up ALL my paints/supplies because I felt so artistically defeated and empty of any talent. Now that I've seen this video I'm pulling everything back and will begin anew watching closely these exceptional lessons. Thank you!!!

    Finally a video that makes sence. I learned years ago, and now teach, that we need to understand the tools and materials we use. Not so much the pros & cons, but rather capabilities and limitation then using that info to our advantage to create the desired effects. I tell my students use common sense, follow safety precautions and explore. Experiment and learn what your tools can do for you in this adventure of art.

    • @IntheStudioArtInstruction
      @IntheStudioArtInstruction  3 роки тому

      WhittleDude, I am in total agreement. I always equate painting skills with craftsman's skills: it works best when you know what your tools and materials will do and when you know how to guide their results.

      It works great for so many things. It's an amazing little tool when used as a tool and not as an excuse.

      I'm just curious as to what you mean "as an excuse"?
      I also use a flat brush for cedar and pine trees.

    My medium is gouache and i only have 1 cheap fan brush
    Whenever the fan brush gets wet it forms into spikes :c
    What can i do?

    • @IntheStudioArtInstruction
      @IntheStudioArtInstruction  4 роки тому +3

      It must be made of hog bristle. Hog bristle does not take well to water, but works beautifully with oils. If you can get a fan brush with synthetic bristles, it will work well with gouache.

    Ok some feedback...mute the video...speed it up...your done. 13 mins too long...1 minute is all we need. And, get ride of that Filbert brush and use a two inches to apply paint to your canvas...speed it up...

      I think you've got it backwards. Slow it down so you can get the real essence of the full capacity of what this brush can do.

    I like the hair example best. I'm a newer painter (less than 4yrs) & want to paint animals (dogs/cats) but I'm stressed about painting fur & getting it right. Thank you so much for your tips! I DO have a fan brush & so far, I've only used it for winter pine trees.

      Observation is your best friend. Rather than paint "hair", look for the hues and values, then the textures. This brush gives the textures by the way it can move value into value and color into color.

    I love your quiet and informative way that you teach. Very often, I will watch an episode and file away the key information , and then watch it again as I prepare to paint. Thank you.

    What brand of fan brush is this?

    • @IntheStudioArtInstruction
      @IntheStudioArtInstruction  2 роки тому +3

      Shan, it's an old fan brush with the brand name completely worn off, but any professional brand of a hog bristle fan brush will do the same job.

    Sorry, you seem like a nice lady, but you talk way, way too much. Plus you didn't start zooming the camera in for close-ups till around 12:30. The first 2 examples hardly showed any difference in contrast or color. Too far away, colors you chose too close. Maybe right in front of you, you can see difference, but it doesn't really show up in the demonstration on your channel. I have to say it like it is. Overriding tone and content one of blandness and boredom.
