This was a great pedal for new guitarists! A really cheap way of exploring a multitude of new sounds and effects :) as a 14 year old in the 90s I loved mine :D

I had of these back in the 90s, was my first pedal.
Had so much fun playing the 505
This was my first "pedal" too!
I made my own presets, I could create the "Slash" tone with it, no problem, and I could play Knock On Heaven's Door with my own preset that sounded EXACTLY like the record.. What more do you need?
Found it in the attic used to be my dads absolutely love the delay effect
This was my entry-level pedal and it served me well before I was able to build my own board. I know this is over 3 years old but Google found it. Nostalgia guys. Thanks!

I Made and album with it, lol probably more than 1 album lol there is at least 40 plus tracks I have recorded with the zoom 505 2 for a very very long time :) that is the sound of my project.
I've still got one of these pedals, I've had beer spilled on it cigarettes ashes on it dropped multiple times and it still runs lol.
I have one rotting in one of my boxes for decades. My A1 was also very much used. :-)
This thing used to be my pedalboard for years,then I Got the 606 with e.pedal . these are vintage stuff. haha.At present , I use boss and mxr pedals as well.Great review guys!!!

Man. I got one of these as a spotty oik. I spent all of my birthday money on my guitar and had no amp, so this was my only way of playing guitar! Alas it had horrible latency so used to drive me mad: but I loved it none the less!

That stepped phaser sound of the zoom was great. I need to get it to remake an old song of mine. But I used to have the 606 with expresion pedal, was the shit back then :P
I really like the flanger effect on the 505 and some of the acoustic and distortion setting are pretty cool. It´s kinda a pain in the ass to program but for the money it was an incredible value.
I just bought one of these again a couple of years ago off ebay to see how they held up and it is all I use lol

This pedal looks like a ton of fun I wonder how it would sound through my grandmeister 36 with my greatsch streamliner might have to find one and find out!
Do you have the the first version of gfx 707. If so could you do a review on this as well a how to do custom patches please. I also still own the model 1 of the 505 with the expression pedal as well. Great vid guys. Kind regards.

90's price performance products. The quality of the hardware is incredibly good. I have a 20-year-old one, I played yesterday. It still works fine. One of the legendary pedals of old times.

A friend of mine gave me his old Zoom 505.....this video has inspired me to find a power supply for it. Pretty awesome little pedal !!
It just uses a standard Boss style 9V adapter...you won't regret it...it's really great fun

Good demo. I happened to pick up one of these along with an expression pedal at a flea market today. So was looking for info. I was comparing the manual patch list as you went through the demo and it seemed the manuals presents didnt match what you were sounding. Have the presets been altered on this device?
Hi Bill...probably been altered...not sure though as it was literally at least decade but probably more since I last turned that thing on...all I remember was the first few presets but mostly A1 which was my main high gain distortion for a while back in the 90s...I probably changed the other presets around too...its a great unit though...some pretty cool sounds in there! The 505 was the first pedal that I ever owned. The only good sound that I could get out of it was chorus w/delay effect.

Don't forget that you could could plug your headphones into this little gizmo and rock away without annoying your household.

Guys - Have you tried the 508? I had read they were really cool delay pedals and much sought after, then I found one at a garage sale, Zoom made some cool pedals back in the day. Also thanks for responding to my query below. - Bill

Can I hook up the zoom 505 with my jd xi synthesizer? Is that possible? Or do only effects pedals work with synths?
You sure can
I ran a microphone through it once on the phaser (I think, it was a long time ago) for robot effect. I bet the synth would make for some interesting sounds

My zoom 505 is working only with distortions as metal, overdrive, etc, but the effects like delay, reverb or hall are not working properly... HELP

try factory reset... Press and hold STORE button and switch on power, The words "ALL" will appear, and everything will start flashing slowly, press STORE button again and let go, "ALL will start flashing quickly then automatically reset ready for use.

Borrowed a 505 from the local music store, over a weekend in ca: 1994. I hated everything about it, so i brought it back following monday, bought an Ibanez ts5 sound tank tubescreamer instead. Made of genuin plastic,
Still have it, still workes, still use it.
I'm still using this ;) , (with my Gibson SG Standart Ebony from 1996)
And by the way, don't use the presets :)

Were you using a solid state amp, or a tube amp ?
It doesn’t seem very noisy to me...could be an issue with your power supply?!? We used a tube amp

You might've changed you mind about Klons but I haven't. WAY overrated. I have to say my memory of mine was that it was pretty hissy. But it was a great practise tool and I really still love the step filter. It was really nice clean and some spacey delay. Btw, wanna test out a really crazy pedal? Try and find an Ibanez Soundtank HyperDrive. If YOU can find anything useful for a HyperDrive you'll be doing better than anyone I know!

Geez, I'm in 2 minds now! It's a such a useless pedal but at the same time I'd love to you guys work your SuperFunAwesomeHappyTimePedal magic on it and perhaps, perhaps, pull some kind of ok tones from it. Mind you, it'll fight you the whole way!

I had one in 97 too! Never really liked it. But I was 17 using an Encore strat and 5w amp lol

Watching this reminds me of why I hated it. All those heavy phase and flange effects. Truly horrible sounds
The presets are all pretty full on...you gotta tweak a bit to get good sounds...I still think this thing was way ahead of its day...and the newer ones - G1on I think - are pretty amazing too

So from reading the comments and watching the video this is good for nostalgia because you owned one as a kid or it's a good multi effects for beginners to learn about effects or it's good for the price. In other words it sucks.
There is nostalgia...BUT I think it still holds up really well...it's super cheap and actually still quite good! Check out our ZOOM 505 vs Analogman KOT vs Helix video

Shows you what kind of an old fart I am, the Zoom 505 is still my main pedal. I bought mine as soon as it came out back in the 90's and it still functions perfectly today, just as well as it did back then. The presets are cool, but the custom settings can be totally outrageous! Love it!
Haha...yep...I'm one of those old farts too...it's a really great unit in my opinion (Gabor here)...I ended up getting all the "500" series Zoom pedals...and I think they are all great!!

It's definitely a pedal that needs tweaking. I reset mine to factory, and then immediately went to fixing them...
Yeah it definitely does need tweaking...I think it's a pretty cool sounding pedal if you tweak it well

I bought it a LONG time ago and I used a lot of the effects which were great...years later and lots of effects pedals later I ended up only using that one overdrive sound that I saved on patch A1

I bought a 505 once and it sucked, it sounded like it was set up by a 12 year old, nothing but extreme distortion, no tone no feel, just pure junk.
