- The Age of Aquarius & Let the Sunshine in is a medley of 2 songs originally from the musical play Hair , music by Galt MacDermot and written byJames Rado and Gerome Ragni in the year 1967. It was released in 1969 as a single by the American R&B group 5th Dimension and became an instant hit being No.1 song for 6 weeks on the US Billboard Top 100 pop single chart.

You're just a little off target in your song description. These songs were part of a hit musical play called Hair, which was about a man who joined a tribe of hippies who indoctrinated him to the world of free love, flower power, peace and drugs. The play was notorious because of a scene in which all of the actors were dancing nude on the stage. It was made into a film starring the late, great Treat Williams. The 5th Dimension recorded these two songs from Hair and they became a major hit for them. Originally sung? No.
