Jennifer Warnes - Let The Sunshine In (1969)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 29 бер 2013
- Before Jennifer Warnes had her first big hit in 1976 with the #6 charted "Right Time Of The Night", and two #1 duets from hit films ("Up Where We Belong" with Joe Cocker from "An Officer & A Gentleman", and "Time Of My Life" with Bill Medley from "Dirty Dancing"), she recorded a double-sided single in 1969 billed simply as Jennifer. The songs were both from the musical "Hair"; "Let The Sunshine In" and "Easy To Be Hard". The single never reached Billboard's Hot 100 chart, never even coming close, because it reached the Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart at a lowly #128.
when a song brings a tear to your eyes , you know its magical
she is just great I graduated high school with her. we did a duet of House of the Rising Sun on stage. we sang at the icehouse in Pasadena CA. It was great !!~!
Do you still have contact with her?
How can I get in touch with her for business?
@@alansommer Sorry I do not. I hope she is like me Tired and Retired. I thought she was just great. Enjoy watching old Smothers Brothers outtakes of her singing. Funny she did not become a bigger hit then she was. Really talented. Saw her in the LA debut of Hair. Wow !!! If you find any info on her wearabouts let me know. I sang for a few years in Newport Beach CA Prison of Socrates and the Ice House in Pasadena. Fun times but I settled for a great wife. 7 kids and 19 grandchildren. Life is GOOD !!!
@@chuckbodnar5756 what's a great wife like? That would be a nice piece of advise for me.
Who cares ???
It’s Feb 2022: in less than two weeks, we have lost forty years of peace talks and trees of brotherhood that our parents sowed as seeds of hope, singing this song in peaceful mobs against the craziness of war ; and here are we now, in a much darker future which no one really wants this way. Let the sun shine in.
Man, you really swallow that propaganda.

It's never too late. Don't forget our sisters. They fight harder than us.

She has a one of a kind powerful voice! I wish that she would consider a new album, she could sing nearly anything nearly effortlessly. So good!

Still letting the sun shine in 2024 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
That second “everything” she sings at 1:05 is truly magical. Wow.
Since 0:56... a masterpiece. A beautiful moment of great art in almost 30 seconds

I cry when I hear this song because even though I don't understand all what it is about there is something in this woman 's voice . It is inspiring and spiritual. Jesus Christ with his arms outstretched, sun shining on his heart , to God be the glory ! Thank Mrs . Warnes for this 🙏🙂👍
She is so beautiful.
Easily the most beautiful rendition of Let The Sunshine In. What a voice!
While not completely disagreeing, Celia Cruz´s version I heartily recommend too.
@@korpienmahtijullit7508 As a Cuban, I'm ashamed that I forgot about Celia's version hahaha

Magnificent composition sung perfectly. A great moment in time.
I just love her voice.
One of the few artists whose voice hasn't really changed much through the years. Listening to this, then listening to one of her recent releases, they all sound fresh!!
Reminds me of Janis joplin
l'ho sentita oggi per la prima volta!!!
She did a collection of Leonard Cohen songs, and he said she sang them the way they were intended to sound..high praise.
Jennifer is a singular talent! Love her to pieces. I believe she was in the LA production of Hair.

love this song. So hippy. I think the Hair cast recording is the best version. Let's all let our natural hair grow and love each other, baby. Get groovy, world.
I
100% agree! let it grow and let the sunshine on it!
I'm bold but in a Hair play the cast was messing up my (lack of) hair at the end when everyone is dancing.
@plushoom She's just gone to bed

I’m used to hearing The Fifth Dimension sing this, but this version is terrific. 👍👍
This is the best version of that song, I've ever heard. Thanks to Jennifer Warnes! :) I hear this song every day. It's so beautiful!
Is there an original version? And what are your thoughts on this version: ua-cam.com/video/MTARpsNMhQ8/v-deo.html ?
This is so intense, makes me cry with nostalgia for a beautiful world that was left forgotten under decades of dust, but seems to be gaining the spotlight again and it's wonderful :)
Amen. I'm in my 60s now and I cry sometimes over how far we have fallen away from those '60s of our youth. But half a century down the road now there are glimpses of a brighter tomorrow. That is the power of hope!
So true. True, true, true. May that vision return.
True. But nevertheless, the most intense interpretation of this amazing song is in the movie Hair!

Let The Sunshine In
Jennifer Warnes
We starve-look
At one another
Short of breath
Walking proudly in our winter coats
Wearing smells from lavatories
Facing a dying nation
Of moving paper fantasy
Listening for the new told lies
With supreme visions of lonely tunes
Somewhere
Inside something there is a rush of
Greatness
Who knows what stands in front of
Our lives
I fashion my future on films in space
Silence
Tells me secretly
Everything
Everything
Let the sunshine
Let the sunshine in
The sunshine in
Let the sunshine
Let the sunshine in
The sunshine in
Let the sunshine
Let the sunshine in
The sun shine in...

Underrated Female Performer.
Is she? I've never heard anyone say such thing before
@@ElvarMasson It's just a thoughtless thing people say when they can't express how much they appreciate an artist (and maybe how foolish everyone else is presumed to not have the same grandiose feelings). I've heard it used about the biggest stars in music history. It's psychologically interesting (hello narcissism), but technically it doesn't mean anything. Warnes was obviously not remotely underrated.
Love her voice it's full of feeling 🎉❤
She's a belter. Wish she'd done more in this vein
I never knew Jennifer Warnes recorded this. It's great. She is a lady of many talents.
Wow. Bloody brilliant x
Eu tinha 2 anos na época hoje vou fazer 60 anos e sempre gostei muito desse gênero musical, parabéns
Excellent!
Hair was epic, and with Jennifer Warnes singing this Hair song: just WOW!
Easily the best version of this! ❤🎉❤
Jennifer Warnes has always had one of the BEST voices in the music business. Just a few short years down the road from “Hair,” she’ll singing such hits as, “Right Time of The Night,” “I’ve Had The Time of My Life,” with Bill Medley and “Up Where We Belong” with Joe Cocker.” All were massive hits.
E' un brano bellissimo, ogni nota mi riporta indietro nel tempo e una struggente malinconia si diffonde nel mio cuore, nostalgia di giovinezza , desiderio di amicizia e libertà tempi lontani che non torneranno più.
Didn't hit the Billboard Hot 100 but became a classic anyway! Fantastic!
Yes, for the Fifth Dimension.
Deeply impressing and heartwarming 🧡
Listening to this version November 2020. Powerful and emotional especially when I remember how the world was back when Hair the musical was released. We are now living in very uncertain times. This song gives you a feeling of hope.
Just "Let the Sunshine in", Renee. :)

This Song is Far Far Far better than most songs ever Written. The Lyrics are important the BackTrack is superior and her vocal approach is unreproachable..) This is Art in Top form, touched by the Gods..)d
Es la primera vez que escucho a esta interprete , muy buena , los temas si los recuerdo de mi adolescencia, marcaron una epoca.
Excelente
wow. never knew this existed. maybe the best, def the most unique and powerful.
@@mariabrown7153 yes, thank you. actually i lived through it, but somehow had lost touch.
She's the one who sings second harmony with Cohen on "Take this waltz"! I didn't know and I've always wondered who that voice belongs to. Fantastic vocalist. Amazing timbre and range. It's the kind of voice that drills right into you. A ton of soul.
EDIT: I'm annoyed that the first part only lasts roughly a minute, because I'd like to hear more of her before the Las Vegas brass line kicks in. And upon closer inspection the first part is supposed to return, so in theory we could have gotten more. But I see from the lyrics that things get a little "crazy" (from a mainstream POV) with mentions of Leary and such, so I wouldn't be surprised if the ugly head of censorship and the abomination that is the war on drugs is the culprit. Shame, because this is the stuff of legend.
Jennifer Warnes can rejuvenate the hippy in you with Sunchine In!
Today more then ever before... 💜
Simplemente ENAMORADISIMO de está canción GRACIAS.👍👍🇵🇪🇵🇪
Very cool

Man I lived through the 60s but somehow missed this rendition. Holy shit!! Let the sun shine!!
Excelent Singer. Jennifer Warner Beatiful. Song
UA-cam randomly suggested this for me and I liked!!
She and Bert Sommer were both members of the cast of HAIR. His song, "Jennifer", is alleged to have been inspired by her. He was the very first act at WOODSTOCK and footage of his performance is on YT. I first saw her on SMOTHERS BROTHERS COMEDY HOUR and knew then she was/is special. One of, if not THE BEST, voices in music....ever.
It's 2024. Even a bit darker. Let the sunshine in
Mars 2024... J'écoute et j'entends toujours cette chanson. Plusieurs fois par an. 💗
Love love love Jennifer's voice how did I not discover this version before. Played Berger in way back on 92 at UNLV out in Red Rock National Park one of the highlights of my educational experience. Hearing this brings a tear to my eye....
Great lyric sung with youthful passion. Love it.
Jenny Warnes can sing some Hair music...or read a menu...this is one of the most beautiful voices of our time.
I've never heard this rendition. It's wonderful, I feel 54 years younger. If only.
She was always fantastic
The talent was always there, so it took some persistence for Jennifer Warnes to break through. Seven years without a hit is nearly the end of a career in the recording biz. The Fifth Dimension's cover of "Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In" probably quashed this version. I was jocking in college radio when an Arista rep gave me a copy of her first LP for that label in 1976. While "Right Time of the Night" was the first big hit, it was another cut, "I'm Dreaming" that really caught my ear. It ended up as the second single, the second of many. And she was certainly lovely.
this version is way too dark for top 40 radio.
Great song, fantastic voice !
... From THE Musical phenomenon that started it all : The rock musical became an important part of the musical theatre scene in the late 1960s with the hit show Hair. Styled "The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical," the anti-war free-love hippie-themed, nude-scened Hair premiered in 1967 as the first production staged at The Public Theater.
Ca c'est la meilleur version et la meilleur interprète de cette mélodie, de tout coeur avec elle
Hair is absolute the best musical of all time!
A good song to listen in 2020 pandemic

I heard this version on "minx" had to look it up. What a voice!!
Brilliant voice, same name as mine, Jennifer 😂😊❤
La amo!! No sabia que era ella! La oi por primera vez a los 15 años cuando vi Hair en Cali Colombia!!
Wow the mix of voices is great in the ending
Let the sunshine in is one of my if not THE all time favourite song of me. Always have goosebumps all over &wet eyes.
being some kind of "flower - child" of the 1990ies (going to anti war demos since aged 13 in 1991) this song has been played several times when I went to England with a group of growing ups. a dear friend I met there & me were crying, hugging to this song when we knew we wouldn`t see each other for weeks after spending every day together the 2 weeks of holidays.
What I do realize now, aged 44, is: war can only stop when the war insede every human being stops.
Love & light
I liked reading that little story, and the comment at the end.
It led me to your channel where I found "Ich trag dich nach Haus" .....💥😲😭😭... but my ears. If that makes sense.
