This report makes one mistake. This house was not purchased by Big Edie & Little Edie in 1924. It was purchased by Big Edie & her husband, Phelan, in 1924. At that time, they were still married, & Little Edie was only about 7 years old. Phelan & Big Edie divorced in 1946. Soon after, the house & property began to slide into disrepair.
One mistake?? Many. They should really have investigated before reporting. Jackie is a subplot. The mother and daughter did not buy the house. Big Edie and her husband did. Sally Quinn is a witch and responsible for putting a hex on 3 people, whom she doesn’t name. She only stopped hexing people when her brother advised her to after her son was born with brain problems. People asked her to put a hex on trump, but she refused. Quinn/Bradley story could be told as a sequel to the Edie Beatles’ story.
Those beds are original to that bedroom (it was the bedroom the two younger brothers lived in). The twin beds seen in the documentary were in another bedroom.
They did a beautiful job of renovation.. The Beales were interesting, because they came out of a bygone era , with lavish parties and jetsetting. In their later years m they were very eccentric and couldn't support themselves . They were used to being waited on, and had servants doing all the daily tasks , that we regular people do everyday ourselves. Little Edie looked alot like cousin Jackie.
220,000 dollars back in 1970 something was a lot of money. To put it in perspective the home I'm in in 1970 when built new cost 10k. It's now worth 41 times that.
Yes, and I personally have always preferred a mature garden, because it looks more natural and less manicured, precisely. Gardens that are too manicured just look like restricting nature to me, they look more like living-rooms than gardens, and that’s so démodé as well. If one really wants the feeling of being in nature a more mature garden will always achieve that way better than a new, freshly manicured one.
@@selmahareSo maybe that's why in the docu film, besides the beach seemed Little Edie liked the garden than the house because the nature of it: almost a jungle... As she described "Sea of Leaves".
Can you say "money pit"? It's nice to see the house all fixed up, but it's not the same without the Beales living there. They are long gone... 🌷. I think of the ELO song Strange Magic instead of an $18 million fixer upper...
Those were not the twin beds that both Edie's occupied in the documentary. Both beds I believe were brass and very old, they had turned green. It IS really bad reporting! Here is the link to their bizarre and fabulous documentary: ua-cam.com/video/nYpM7Srz5AQ/v-deo.html
I just assume a B&B would've sufficed if it gave someone a chance to sleep there for whatever how many days they could book. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bed_and_breakfast
I don't think they wanted her help besides the massive cleaning she had done. They were both mentally I'll and saw nothing wrong with how they were living.
Do u not understand that they were quite a bit unbalanced? I cleaned my sisters house, bght her food, did her laundry bc at 60yo, she 'didnt want to'. Sis continued to be disgustingly filthy.. turned her house into a flophouse for transients so now i can't go there anymore. There's only so much u can do for a person, regardless of the relationship or wealth. Big/Lil Edie chose to live w filth.
'Gardens' is NOT A HYPHENATED WORD!!!! Why is the Reporter pronouncing it that way? It's actually quite offensive. And 'Tennis' is not pronounced like 'Tannis'.
Maybe he has a New York accent not everyone has to talk perfect and refine. He probably from Jersey or New York....why you even care how he talks and how he says it is beyond me. It's beyond me why you let the way says Tennis bother you. It's a fucking word, not something to get your panties on wad for. Not everyone has to talk and say words like you to appease you. Get over yourself...Tannis!
If it had the original beach frontage, the house would definitely be worth that. even without its history. But that portion of the property was sold during the Depression, and the proceeds probably kept the family afloat during that period. Whether or not people are willing to pay for the history/fame/status, remains to be seen.
+Bunny Biedenharn exactly where they used to relax watch ocean i love the doco watched it few times there something so poetic and sad at same time if that makes sence such nice people if only they knew how famous there little window in there life would be famous i bet big edie still in spirit in that house if not both😇
Definitely, it would be Big Edie whose spirit would be there. Little Edie, if not haunting a stage in Manhattan (or maybe one of the spectacular penthouse terraces of the newly-revamped and repurposed Barbizon), would be on the beach. The house really IS an icon, now. I know they'd be pleased to see that their old books are back on the shelves, and so many of the Beales' remaining possessions are still there (the things they didn't have to sell, and the ones that the 'helpers' didn't steal). I hope the next owner continues in the curatorial tradition.
Jackie Kennedy's relationship to these two women are, Aunt and Cousin, NOT Niece.
W. Bovgvereav - exactly what I thought. Well spotted.
THANK YOU, that about drove me absolutely NUTS
Rip. May your spirits live on.
So sad how the beales lived in this house but I’m glad it’s been brought back to life

Exactly.
Also those two beds weren't the beds the mother and daughter used.
I WANT THIS HOUSE. I LOVE THE BOUVIER BEALES
God bless Jackie for spending money to clean the house! They were abandoned by the rest of the family
SCANDAL ALLERT! She was shamed into doing it...
Reporter needs to WATCH the doc. Those ARE NOT the same beds!
🛏+🛏=👎
exactly flea ridden 😂😂
Charles - EXACTLY!!!! The ones they used in the 'Documentary' are TOTALLY DIFFERENT!!!!
@@libertygiveme1987 😂😂😂🤣
I know!!! I seen a few differences but thank God it was restored,so much history🌺🌸🇺🇸🌼🌻
those were not the same beds. look at the bed frames in the documentary. totally different headboards
Those beds are original to that bedroom (it was the bedroom the two younger brothers lived in). The twin beds seen in the documentary were in another bedroom.
Exactly. They don't care. They reported whatever comes to mind.
So glad it has been restored.
Beautiful home again wow
Would be a dream to live in this house 🙏🏻

Ari Onassis gave the money for the plumbing and fixing etc not Jackie O!!!!! 😇🙏🎉🎊👍🙄
THANK YOU Your right Jackie would never have helped them
@@cindygrober8139 She did help them. She had clean linen, clothes, food and other necessities sent to them regularly after the fix-up.
Possibly a bed and breakfasts?
Exactly what I would do, many people would love the experience and pay a lot for it.
I'm amazed they kept the books since they probably smelled really bad.
Well...old books lend atmosphere to a home........and they smell good too.
Is there any footage of the way house looked inside when.Beales lived and it was in good state, not like it was in documentary
The gardens are not overgrown, they are mature. Many of the premier botanical gardens in the world look very similar.

1:37 These aren't the original beds... they looked nothing like this
Peter, the marble faun, had to wear flea collars on his ankles and wrists
One can only imagine growing up when the Hamptons and Eastern Long Island was a nice, quiet place, not like the hellhole it is today....
Not Arts and Crafts style
Can you say "money pit"?
It's nice to see the house all fixed up, but it's not the same without the Beales living there. They are long gone... 🌷. I think of the ELO song Strange Magic instead of an $18 million fixer upper...
The person who buys this home doesn’t worry about cost.
Same twin beds😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣 oh my goodness so ditzy
Does the place have a garage?
No. It was built to be a summer retreat.

18 million when the last video said it was for sale for 20 million.
Supposedly sold for $15.5m.
Probably could've just turned it into a B&B and get some some sort of profit out of people staying there for a night or so.
Maybe, but I think it was renting for something like $175,000 per month. I bet a lot of fans would have liked a night though.
That would be a good option right there.
I just assume a B&B would've sufficed if it gave someone a chance to sleep there for whatever how many days they could book.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bed_and_breakfast
There better be a lot of guests to cover the morgage on 12 million
Sally Quinn bought it.
Jackie did not give them a dime, It was ONASSIS that gave them the money to Redo the House
I would like to see the movies would come back, please let’s see it.
U can watch it on utube
This reporter has stuff all wrong
The garden actually looks kinda sad now
Still gives me the creeps.
The sad part is that Jackie Kennedy Onassis with all her money and people she knew let Big Edie and Little Edie live like they had to!! 😳🙄☹️😢
I don't think they wanted her help besides the massive cleaning she had done. They were both mentally I'll and saw nothing wrong with how they were living.

I love both edie's but putting you maidenname behoren your married or father name to create a longer "interesting" name is ridiculous
"They were mother and daughter and best friends" pfffft ooookay that's looking at it through very rose tinted glasses
Yea, I viewed them as two mentally I’ll people!
Beautiful house but too big and expensive
THEY RIPPED EDITH OFF
They're lucky they got what they did.
It's Just edith Beale, not Edith Bouvier-Beale. That's for both edie's. But that's probebly t commen.
'Gardens' is NOT A HYPHENATED WORD!!!! Why is the Reporter pronouncing it that way? It's actually quite offensive. And 'Tennis' is not pronounced like 'Tannis'.

Bunny needs to hop away and get a life
Bunny sounds like a fun person to be around. (Note extra, extra, extra heavy sarcasm). 😂
Is it pronounced pecan or pecon?
not worth that.

No A list person lived there. I think most would have no clue what home it was or who lived there.

It went for 15 million.
