    Buy a silk bonnet so your hair doesnt lose moisture when you sleep and doesn’t get all tangled and matted in the back. It’s a life saver for black girls and we’re known to have dryer hair than our fairer skinned counterparts. I’d also recommend washing your hair less since it’s drier and your hair needs the natural oils from your scalp to come through. And please don’t ever go to sleep with soaking wet hair unless it’s in a style that’s meant to dry overnight. If you’re doing that often that’s probably why your hair is remaining so dry and brittle, aside from the bleach. good luck babes

    When I bleached my hair before, I had the same problem and I had to deep condition my hair for a couple weeks after I finally accepted the fact that my hair was wrecked. I would also do over night treatments and they worked for me. I honestly think your hair looks really nice and looks a lot more healthy than mine did. I was in denial of my dryness for awhile, needless to say I walked around looking like I had a dead poodle on my head for a month.

      I fried my hair this bad back on the summer of 2014. It was such a disaster and my hair was literally the color of a brand new penny.... I grew half of it out then cut my hair short, it's not worth trying to save hair this far gone. It's absoutely fried and her hair cuticle is ruined, which is why the purple color stays in her hair after she shampoos. I would get a really short pixie cut or do like I did and shave it all off. Poor girl. I hope she learned her lesson with bleach like I did. Much love to her. :(

      hi, idk if you mention this in your video,but hair is dead since it doesn't have any cell regeneration and you can't actually repair damaged hair. conditioners,oils and treatments only mask the problem,although they can help your healthy hair to grow out stronger. it would be best to cut off split ends so they don't split further and "infect" your healthy hair.

      Coconut oil can't actually penetrate the strands. The molecules are too big. At most it can coat the hair and make it feel and look softer, but its benefits to the hair are actually pretty slim.

    • @ctressler35
      @ctressler35 6 років тому +98

      Corina it seeps under the cuticle of hair that is compromised and blown open. It will make it feel softer and look shiner because it's filling in the broken and missing cuticle. It cannot penetrate the cortex of the hair or repair any damage to the protein bonds done by lightening or over processing. Is it bad for your hair, no. But if you have severely processed hair like in the video, your going to want a protein rebonder, like olaplex. She only used olaplex step 3 though, which is the take home portion of the whole treatment. You want to get 1 and 2 if you want to see any real improvement in your hair.
      I'm a licensed cosmetologist and hair stylist. I have yet to see anyone have any drastic improvement using coconut oil on severely damaged hair.

    • @KayAndOasis
      @KayAndOasis 6 років тому +61

      Mary Tressler considering right before this you said coconut oil doesn’t penetrate the hair shaft i think you have more research to do. being a licensed cosmetologist doesn’t make you a molecular scientist. they are studies showing the chain in coconut oil is one of the very few able to slip into our hair shaft and attach itself. i’m too lazy to leave links as i’m on a phone. just google coconut molecular chain hair repair or something

    I was told by an Olaplex rep that after 30 min, there isn’t anymore processing of any kind. Sleeping in it is fine but after 30 min, you’re not adding anything.....I said it’s a psychological placebo then cuz it makes me feel better lol.

It does feel very soft and has just the right amount of volume. Stick with Olaplex!

    All oils, like coconut oil, don't moisturize your hair. In order to properly use hair oils you need to condition the hair first, then add the oil. The oils just keep the moisture and the conditioner trapped in the hair! So moisturizer/conditioner first, then apply the oil on top.

Thank you for any response xXx and educating me xXx

      Actually I believe it depends on the oil. Some do add moisture, but others only seal it in. That's what seems to be the information passed around in the curly hair community.

    • @iakdrawllim4127
      @iakdrawllim4127 4 роки тому +15

      If you condition your hair and then put the oil on afterwards, the oil will just sit on top of the first layer of your hair, because the conditioner closes your cuticle and almost seals your outer layer of hair. If you really wanna get the most out of an oil: research to find an oil that genuinely soaks into your hair shaft (because there are only a few that do genuinely absorb into the hair, like Jojoba I believe is one of them), then shampoo, towel dry, add the chosen oil to damp, towel dried hair, cover with a plastic shower cap or something similar to keep the heat in, and leave for about 30 mins or longer either under heat or not (heat will open your cuticle and allow the oil to seep in better), then rinse it all off thoroughly and condition with your normal conditioner. And for extra moisture apply a small amount of oil into damp hair after everything is rinsed off and continue to dry

It’s in a very good condition, a lot better than when I got it bleached with olaplex at a salon, and it was so much cheaper than at the salon. For maintenance I deep condition with coconut oil every week and cut off split ends. Can’t wait for the next time I bleach my hair tbh :)

    • @electron-Volt
      @electron-Volt Рік тому +1

      I am so glad it works for you! However I remember reading that coconut oil has such large molecules that they do not actually penetrate the hair, only coat it on the outside - much like silicones. I wonder if that is true.

    • @Emma-ii4ir
      @Emma-ii4ir Рік тому +2

      @@electron-Volt yep coconut oil doesn't really do anything other than fake the look of smooth hair. Well it definitely is acting like a protection coating, but that doesn't matter if your using any chemical treatment.

    • @Emma-ii4ir
      @Emma-ii4ir Рік тому +2

      Okay, so I have something to add.
      Coconut oil is a little bit more than a just a outer protection coating. 95% of the coconut oil in particular consist of lipids that are less than 18 carbons long, which are small enough to seep under the cuticle. Oils that just sit on the top without seeping under the cuticles are jojoba, rice bran and mineral oils therefore much longer than 18 carbons.
      Considering this, it is smart to pre oil your hair before washes to decrease the harshness and stripping nature of sulfate shampoos. However as I already said it is truely pointless to do it before chemical treatment, it will eat right trough the oil, damaging the hair nonetheless.
      Then there are the polar triglycerides (about 64% for coconut) which attach to damaged hair (negatively charged) causing the hair to 'soak' up the oil over the time into or near to the cortex of the hair strands due to the attraction. It could be a hair nourishing treatment for once in a while but it doesn't have the ability to build hair bonds, so again, in scientific sense it shouldn't have the ability to repair or 'save' the hair.
      But if it works for you, it works for you.

    Hey nami! I had bleached my hair in july 4 times in 2 weeks from virgin black hair.... Goes to say it was breaking off and so damaged. I ended trimming the dead ends and started doing keratin treatments. Ahpogees 2 step keratin treatment has saved my hair. Only around 4-5$ for the packed treatment at sallys beauty! Also the ion booster treatments (its 2 small little bottles and again its a 2 step) is a dupe for olaplex! Does the same thing but way cheaper ($2 per bottle/the after conditoner packet) but it is alot smaller in quantity but it makes your hair feel amazing. The shampoo and conditoner i swear by is the CHI keratin line, i got mine for very cheap at marshalls hehe. All these products have given my hair its strength back and doesnt feel noodly or tangly anymore. I hope this helps!!! Also maybe try dying your hair a medium ash blonde or even dark, it will make your hair feel and look a lot healthier as long as you use a demi pernament dye ( reccomend ION at sallys)

      It could be a dupe for olaplex Number 3 which is a take home treatment. The number 2 they use in the salon is a bit more concentrated, but the best thing is to get an olaplex stand alone treatment at a salon where they mix the number 1 (the really potent stuff they put in bleach and dye) with water and use it as a deep conditioner. 20x better than the take home treatment

    • @MarlyMarly69

      I second this!! I actually used color remover on my hair to lift a permanent black dye (I was at 1), and aphogee really helped. I've stopped coloring my hair now, but the stripped hair is now my ends, and I bleached them after dying my natural color, and then going back to brown again, so I use the treatment regularly. No crazy breakage! That and argan oil after every shower for a year and my hair is really healthy and long all the way through to the ends. Now I'm scared to do anything to my hair because it's finally nice again!

    what everyone needs to know is that once your hair damaged nothing can un damage your hair. Only prevention works by applying oils onto your hair which coats the hair. A lot of hair products contain silicones which make your hair feels soft except they don't hydrate your hair at all but coat it and actually suffocate it.

    Hello Nami! The Olaplex step 3 should be done on non-shampooed hair for best results, but I highly recommend getting the salon treatment for Olaplex and trimming the ends. When I bleached my hair, doing these two things helped a long way ☺️

  • @KevkevDisG
    @KevkevDisG 6 років тому +34

    I use Olaplex every time I bleach my hair and it's what's helped me get my hair blonde while still allowing me to grow it out. Honestly if you want to get a bargain when it comes to Olaplex treatments you should try to find salons that offer that treatment. If it's done in a salon they give you the treatment by using Steps 1 and 2 and they're supposed to charge it as much as their most expensive treatment that they offer. I have a salon in my area where the most expensive treatment they offer is $40 so they charge their Olaplex treatments only $40 and they're much more effective than the little bottle of step 3 since step 1 and 2 have a higher concentration of the ingredient that makes Olaplex so great. Also, if you do end up using Olaplex as your go-to treatment in the future, please don't leave it in overnight. It stops working around 30-45 mins.

    Hi, I love watching your videos, and your recent bleaching caught my attention.
    I also bleached my hair (the bottom 4 inches or so, 3 times with 40 volume from stubborn black to light blonde) and I thought I'd share what I learned so far.
    First, you aren't supposed to use purple shampoo every time you wash your hair: since there is color in the shampoo, only use it when you feel your hair is getting brassy. If not, it turns your hair purple. Use shampoos for damaged/bleached hair in its place.
    Second, I heard that coconut oil is more like a protecting layer (that keeps moisture trapped inside rather than provide moisturize) that you put on after another oil, so maybe putting two different oils would help more. I personally hate the smell of coconut so I haven't tried it myself.
    Since your hair is dry, it'll hold on to any moisture... so drying takes super long, as you also mentioned. Heat protection is very important if you use any heating tools so you don't get even more split ends. I try not to use heat at all when drying.
    Third, I heard that boar bristle brushes are very good for you because it distributes oils evenly throughout your hair. I got one myself and I've been loving it. I would recommend for you to get a medium strength bristle; the soft one was way too soft and wouldn't go through my hair. You can add oils into the brush itself and brush it into your hair.
    Good luck with your hair journey, I'll be watching your videos and learning too :)

    you should chop off the ends and get a pixie, it'll look super cute on you and will help stop the rest of your hair from breaking (if there is breakage at the ends it can travel up the hair shaft and cause more damage)

      Fallon Moore Duh. She said it will look cute and I said it wouldn't. Two opinions. Guys joke all the time about pixie cuts being mom cuts. Even SNL made a skit about the mom cut. Certain face shapes look particularly bad with it. I am sure there are people out there who like mullets. I don't. Most people I know don't. No one is arguing whether or not she is allowed to. Someone said it would look cute and I said it wouldn't. Both were opinions given.

    • @RenaissanceSilence
      @RenaissanceSilence 6 років тому +21

      A M Saying they look awful on women, which is an absolute statement about all women, is just not true. Saying certain face shapes are not suited for the pixie look is definitely true and matter of personal preference. Just like long hair doesn’t suit all face shapes and people. Totes go all out on your opinion AND personal preference on not liking extremely short hair on women.

    honestly if you trimmed off just a few inches and continued with the olaplex, I think your hair would be a lot better condition and the length would look beautiful on you!!! I destroyed my hair with too many bleach treatments a few years ago when my hair was a similar length, and I went to the salon and got a really cool mohawk to deal with all the length that couldnt be saved! After the cut you would have never guessed my hair was in terrible condition before. Just my two cents!!!

    This video was super helpful! Thank you for doing this, I just recently bleached my hair three times and my scalp is on fire and my hair is a wreck. I would recommend doing any treatments on dry hair vs wet hair because dry hair will have more capacity to really absorb all the treatment. While wet hair has already absorbed water and will not absorb the treatment completely.

    Unfortunately the only way to get rid of your split ends is by cutting them off. I would recommend continuing treatments and getting trims more often to gradually be gone with the too damaged hair. Also make sure not to treat it too often because too much protein can cause more damage. Avoid heat and washing your hair too often. DO NOT USE OLAPLEX MORE THAN ONCE A WEEK. Good luck :)

    Oh man, nami you freaking got me. I want soooo badly to just cut my long ass black hair to shoulder lenght and have it all grey, but my hairdresser would refuse or i'd have to bleach every couple of months again and my hair would be all grown out by the time i got to the next step. I don't wanna fry my hair, but I reaaalllly dig that look! You got into my head!!

    Your hair is tangling easily because the cuticle of the hair is blasted open and stuck that way so the cuticle catches on itself. The coconut oil wont repair anything, just hydrate the hair. Olaplex is meant to repair and build side bonds of the hair. The third product, I have never heard of, so I cant really say how it works. The only way to fix stressed (its not professional to called it damaged) hair is to cut it and grow it out. Hair is dead once it is out of the follicle, so you can't really do much to it repair wise once you damage it.

      Exactly! Cut it off and if you want your hair to grow back faster, I recommend biotin pills as well as a coconut oil+ castor oil mask (a lot of youtube videos demonstrating this).

    I had extremely damaged hair too. I'm using three treatments, and in combination with regular trims they helped immensely!
    It's the Aphogee Protein Treatment every six weeks, and Olaplex or coconut oil before every wash. Also apple cider vinegar rinses are amazing (smells bad though).
    Half a year ago I was worried I'd have to wear a wig soon, today my hair is a lot healthier and stronger. Maybe this helps!

      Hi! Was your hair "gummy" when wet? And did the texture go back to normal? I'm going through the same thing and would appreciate any advice. Thank you!

      @@XxDreamRidexX Hi! No my hair wasn't "gummy" when wet, it was extremely dry and would break upon the lightest touch. I'm not a professional, but what you're describing sounds to me like your hair needs keratin. Have you tried Olaplex or something similar?

      @@sunnyunnie3225 Thank you for responding! Yes, I've done an Olaplex stand alone treatment and also used the Aphogee two step treatment once. It still feels very weak when it's wet. I guess I'll need to repeat the Olaplex + Aphogee several times. I was actually thinking about asking for a Keratin treatment at a salon and see if that helps!

      @@XxDreamRidexX Yeah it takes a while, there's no miracle cure unfortunately. I did this for several months before really seeing a change in my hair. Good luck 💪🏻
