Man I hate the trend of coconut oil as a “moisturizing” ingredient. My hair is fine and it HATES that, especially when it’s a top ingredient. I really do need moisture because my hair tends toward dryness but my god, I feel like most products these days that are intended for “moisture” are full of heavy oils. It’s so exhausting to shop for good conditioners because of this.

Hmm...maybe you could try to make your own ,there a channel called humblebee and me ,theres a bunch of conditioner recipes that works great for my curly hair, with several adjusting to our personal hair needs.
My sister and I both have fine hair as well and the best conditioner/s we have been able to find is from not your mother's (naturals line). I specifically really like the royal honey line.

My thin, lower porosity hair does NOT like me leaving-in coconut oil. When I started using it because it's all the rave, my strands brittled sooo quickly! I'd already figured out why but it's great that you compiled all of this in a video for everyone. Ty Mell
At the beginning of my daughter’s healthy curly hair journey we started using lots of different products. My daughter’s scalp became flaky with a big patch of Eczema. Through a sensitivity test we found out she is sensitive possibly allergic to coconut. Shampoos, conditioner, deep conditioner, and gels are easy to find without coconut but what we struggled finding was leave in conditioners without it. We finally found Your Mother’s Curl Talk 3 in 1 condition is coconut free. I’m glad to learn that Shea Moisture has one I can look for as well. It took me hours of online research to find just 1 leave in without coconut oil!

My hair reacts incredibly poorly to coconut oil. Here's some other leave ins without it: ouidad Twist (only $9.99!) moisture lock leave in (the black bottle), Aveda nutriplenish leave in (the spray, NOT the moisture leave in treatment), Aveda botanical repair leave in treatment, verb hydrating leave in conditioner, verb rest sealing leave in, evolvh smart color leave in (I believe all their leave ins other than the curly one are coconut oil free), curlsmith multitasking conditioner (it's a rinse out or leave in, I like it as a leave in), curlsmith weightless air dry cream (it's considered a leave in and/or curl cream), AG hair leave in detangling spray, innersense sweet spirit leave in, John Freida daily nourishment leave in conditioner (drugstore brand), Aussie hair insurance (drugstore brand), ecoslay rice pudding leave in, bounce curl moisture balance leave in
I hope this helps anyone else who can't use coconut oil! They are out there, and this is just what I could think of out of my collection off the top of my head, I know I'm forgetting some!

I can remember slathering my hair in coconut oil a few years back and my hair was SCREWED. It was the driest it’s ever been (and my hair was over processed and white blonde at the time so that’s saying a lot) and came out in clumps. Ever since I’ve never used it

Yesss about coconut oil. Speaking of, could you review some sustainable/low waste alternatives like shampoo/conditioner bars, minimal/recycled plastic products (e.g. Aveda)? A lot of zero waste DIY/zero waste products feature coconut oil heavily so interested to see how that is balanced with the rest of the ingredient list/moisture/humectants. You should totally do a collab with @sustainably_vegan who is a curly low waste youtuber and she learned everything about styling her hair from you!

My coconut oil is liquid Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, when I started seeing it on UA-cam , I thought it was a different type of coconut or like the way factories prepare it make it solid, in my experience, back then you couldn’t find it in a super market because every body made it a home (including myself), I did some research I found out that was a temperature thing but I wasn’t sure. Later I found it in a super market and was so exited it was solid (the air conditioner there) until I get home and it was liquid again hahahaha

Ive binged watch the last year's worth of videos this past weekend. I learned so much and now trying to find a routine. I embraced my curls but I've never had a routine. I've noticed my curls suffering from it and always had frizz. I now know and understand why. TY mell for your videos. 💜
My hair loves coconut oil. I’ve been letting color grow out to allow my natural silver to show and shine and it just soaks in the coconut oil coating the strands, making them soft and shiny. Even the ends that still have a few inches of color, love coconut oil. I understand how it may not work for all but it certainly works for me, just three or four drops on the ends, nape of my neck, and hair line is enough. For me its like a magic potion.

Just one question: I'm about to get hold of my new set of oils (including Black Castor Oil, Argan and Red Pimento) but have just found out in a local shop in town they sell Olaplex 7 (the oil). That made me stop and reconsider, especially because of the good feedback Olaplex has from everyone. Now, the reason why I was hesitant was the same one you mention: would I be preventing it from the different benefits of a "multiple experience"? What are your views? Many thanks!

Any kind of oil just makes my hair feel greasy and weighed down. Maybe I’m just not doing it right, but I’ve always found oil based products a disaster for my hair.
Verb ghost oil might be amazing for you. Its weightless smells great and does not have a greasy feel.
Maria B which products did you use? I’ve just switched to the cleanse shampoo and conditioner (with Aveda curl cream and gel) and am concerned that sometimes my hair looks like it has build up even on day one. CBA doing a cider rinse every time I wash. Wondering if I should try another S&C.
Maria B thanks Maria, that really does! My hair looks sooo much better today :) I think actually I’d increased the protein in my routine by changing my hair mask too, and so I’ve balanced that out this wash day and it’s made a big improvement :D

Yep, I’m allergic to Cocamidopropyl Betaine. So when I use products with coconut oil in them, my scalp burns and my hair reacts So badly to it. Still trying to find a good Deep conditioner.

Try product junkie naturals or nature’s little secret or Soultanicals they’re all women owned and small businesses. I know for a fact that product junkie naturals states that it’s coconut free, I’ve tried there item and they’re good but kind of strongly fragrances for me(I have a sensitive nose though) and the other two brands really take into consideration peoples but allergies!!!

I won't call my hair in particular dry but they get frizzy and are fine. They appear dry (not glossy) and are not brittle but feel soft and elastic. I still am not sure what is my porosity level.

It’s liquid in PR because it’s so warm there. I am Boricua too and live in NYC. My coconut oil liquifies during the summer and stays solid during fall, winter and even spring.
