I think so. My biggest problem was downshifting as well. Kinda scary when you're trying to take a left turn with oncoming traffic and you're not sure if your bike is in neutral, 1st, or 2nd when you release the clutch. And FWIW I've put 10,000 miles on the bike since and it still shifts beautifully. I say give it a try. Good Luck!!

I have an old 94 fzr 600r, where it doesn't always change in to second gear properly. And I'm thinking I wanna do the same as you've done in this video, do you remember how you changed the little arm with the bearing on the bottom of the star wheel. And is there more than the arm itself you changed?

What website has the kit? And what all did your kit come with? This is the exact issue I have with my 2006 R6S. Only difference is that the clutch isnt engaging now. I'm thinking shift shaft and/or clutch shaft that grabs on to the clutch cable mechanism.

I'm having a problem with the shifter not going back into rest position! Is this basically what my bike needs is the detent spring?

Yeah, I guess I didn't mention why the kit is an upgrade with all of my ramblin. You nailed it...weak factory spring. The Factory Pro bearing is a nice touch too. What model bike are you putting the kit in? Do they make an upgrade star for it? Wondering if the star makes a big improvement. Good luck with yer upgrade. BTW the allen wrench didn't slip but you think I should get the clothes pin, coat hanger, welding rods, and paper clips outta the oil pan too. JK

I wonder if the springs on the shift shaft were the diference between before and after

    How did it work out?
I've had this same exact bike for the last 2 years.
Got it for $2k in great shape with 7600 miles with 2 helmets and 2 jackets.
Mine shifts good enough but a little better at times would be great cause sometimes if I dont push a good amount of force on every shift then every once in a while it wont shift or hits neutral and not 2nd and I'm deciding to do this or not.

The star on the YZF is not replaceable so it wasn't an option for me. On bikes where the star is replaceable, I'd imagine the profile of the replacement star makes for more deliberate shifts...but that's just speculation on my part. Just curious, what bike do you have and what problems are you looking to correct reddog954?

I just bought a used 04 and It is terrible when down shifting! I have to repeatedly tap down on the gear shift lever to get it to down shift. The up shift is fine up shifts every time. The bike has 8500miles and I can see the clutch basket has no wear groves the clutch functions properly. Would this kit help with my bike not wanting to down shift? Thanks.

Any idea on the difference between this and the evo (star) kit ?
