YZF600R Shift Shaft and Factory Pro Shift Kit (Part 1) - All Jacked Up
I have an old 94 fzr 600r, where it doesn't always change in to second gear properly. And I'm thinking I wanna do the same as you've done in this video, do you remember how you changed the little arm with the bearing on the bottom of the star wheel. And is there more than the arm itself you changed?
thank you so much i thought my bikes tranny was blown. this is the same problem i have now i know what i need to do
I'm having a problem with the shifter not going back into rest position! Is this basically what my bike needs is the detent spring?
Would the shifter return spring be located here? I assume it would but there's no videos I can find showing it. My shifter is limp and won't return to its normal position after shifting
somebody told me about a shift kit but I thought they mean I had to replace the shift forks inside the transmission, if you're telling me I can do something to the external shift mechanism to fix my issue that would be amazing.
My bike has this issue...
What website has the kit? And what all did your kit come with? This is the exact issue I have with my 2006 R6S. Only difference is that the clutch isnt engaging now. I'm thinking shift shaft and/or clutch shaft that grabs on to the clutch cable mechanism.
Hey where did you get these parts
Thanks for the vids, I purchased a 01 yzf600r last august and I’ve been doing little things to it here and there, I’m planning on doing a jet kit here in about a week plus full carb rebuild, I want to upgrade to an ebc clutch and your video really helped me to understand what that entails so thanks! (Mine already has the factory shift kit btw)
How did it work out? I've had this same exact bike for the last 2 years. Got it for $2k in great shape with 7600 miles with 2 helmets and 2 jackets. Mine shifts good enough but a little better at times would be great cause sometimes if I dont push a good amount of force on every shift then every once in a while it wont shift or hits neutral and not 2nd and I'm deciding to do this or not.
Your video helped me understand what I'm gonna get in to do you have a video of the whole process?
😂😂😂😂 who else shifts into second third fourth fifth sixth gear while their stationary... 📣 Spin the wheel😂😂😂😂 All you needed was a clutch cable adjustment😂😂😂😂
what year is this bike?
I wonder if the springs on the shift shaft were the diference between before and after
hella nice house
? I just bought an 01 it was doing the same thing hard time down shifting. Nd it would skip neutral sometimes. The very last video didn't have sound for me. Just wondering what you fixed
Yeah George Lucas didn't appreciate using 15 seconds of Star Wars music...maybe John Williams, I hear he can be a jerk. In the last video all I did was show that I had installed the FP Shift Kit and that it seemed to fix the shifting problems. I think I went on to babble about the clutch end-plate needing to be put on right and a washer that bent but could be hammered back into shape. I lost the original video years ago so I can't repost. Good luck if you try this repair, it's worth it.
Thank you, im going to try it myself maybe lol... I just hope that's whats wrong with mine! This is my first bike so its hard for me to tell what it is, but sound a lot like your problem you had. At first it didn't want to down shift had to continuously push down to shift... But long story short it now sits in back of my house stuck in fourth. Ugh..
anthony anderson any news on the bike?
Thank you man
Welcome
Yeah with the bike stationary that would explain why I couldn't shift so well. The real world problem was downshifting mostly. Very dangerous when I would go to make a left with traffic oncoming and wasn't sure if I was stuck in 3rd, had skipped 2nd into Neutral, or actually in 2nd as I am now when I downshift from 3rd. Good point tho.
Bikes dont shift up to 2nd as a feature of finding nuetral while bike is stationary
Man that sucks, cuz their cost of production is nothing once they've tooled up. I don't represent them so I offer no excuse, nor believe there is one when the problem is obviously on their end and so easy to make right. Buyer beware!
Yeah I'm a hands-on learner and when I saw that the light bulb went off and I wanted to share. Glad you got something out of it too. Thx for the comment.
Thank you for making this video and actuating the clutch ur the man
So I just installed the shift kit today, WOW what a different!! Shifts great now! Thanks for showing the video that was great to see what i will be getting into before I start wrenching. Thanks for the info.
The star on the YZF is not replaceable so it wasn't an option for me. On bikes where the star is replaceable, I'd imagine the profile of the replacement star makes for more deliberate shifts...but that's just speculation on my part. Just curious, what bike do you have and what problems are you looking to correct reddog954?
Any idea on the difference between this and the evo (star) kit ?
ok thanks! Im going to order it now.
Please tell me if this kit fixed your down shifting problem because that is my problem now.
I think so. My biggest problem was downshifting as well. Kinda scary when you're trying to take a left turn with oncoming traffic and you're not sure if your bike is in neutral, 1st, or 2nd when you release the clutch. And FWIW I've put 10,000 miles on the bike since and it still shifts beautifully. I say give it a try. Good Luck!!
I just bought a used 04 and It is terrible when down shifting! I have to repeatedly tap down on the gear shift lever to get it to down shift. The up shift is fine up shifts every time. The bike has 8500miles and I can see the clutch basket has no wear groves the clutch functions properly. Would this kit help with my bike not wanting to down shift? Thanks.
@breethwithme Yeah, I guess I didn't mention why the kit is an upgrade with all of my ramblin. You nailed it...weak factory spring. The Factory Pro bearing is a nice touch too. What model bike are you putting the kit in? Do they make an upgrade star for it? Wondering if the star makes a big improvement. Good luck with yer upgrade. BTW the allen wrench didn't slip but you think I should get the clothes pin, coat hanger, welding rods, and paper clips outta the oil pan too. JK
