actually really glad i found this video i just bought a molested 600r and my second gear just grinds and doesn’t engage. i got a shit ton of work ahead of me i guess 😂😂
Near the end you said " this bike is not user friendly" You cracked me up. Lol. I'm doing second on my 85 Honda VF1000R I think you don't have to strip it down all the way The head can still be intact I just need to split the case at the transmission. I hope it is more user friendly than my 89 fzr600
I have 2005 R6. Getting a noise on my front sprocket that sounds like is inside past the case. Well more like I feel friction in neutral when free spinning at the rear wheel …I can see and feel the wheel only turns a 3 to 4 times before it’s slowed down and stops. I figured it would rotate a lot more then that, anyway I also get a clunky chain draw of the sprocket as it makes its way around the sprocket. I read everything out there about lube n what not…I’m sure it’s not dry chain noise. I can tell something is causing drag inside having to do with output shaft. Now I’m asking what can it be or cause that associated with in the parts on an output shaft ???
11:15 when I try to move my gears like that, they just "jump" off after 2 seconds of rotating. can you tell what's wrong with it? it doesn't spin entirely like your gears do
Great vid! And what the heck was Yamaha thinking making it this hard to get to gearbox, wich also happens to be a big weak point as fait would have it. I guess when it rains it pours, eh
I found the best “prevention” is a heavy shift from 1st to 2nd. You can try different types of oil but in my personal experience not fully engaging 2nd is what mainly causes the failure
@@MattsMotoWoRX Do you mean that it is 50% an user error and 50% a material error? The most motorcycle gearboxes are constructed similarly, but i read often about the problem mostly at this engine, that the edges become round.
@@MattsMotoWoRX this is a very common failure. and the second gear issue is normaly caused by the 2nd gear geardogs being rounded and the output gear having rounded edges on the mesh point. under heavy acceleration it puts preasure on the selector fork by trying to push its self out of gear. wich slowly ends up bending it till it no longer engages. normally the 2nd gear should last from 18k to 30k miles depending on the way the rider rides their bike. the more abuse they take the quicker 2nd will faill. on 2 of mine the 2nd has failed. one is yzf600r california import and the the other is a fzr600r uk reg both same identical bike engine the lot. the 2 bolts under the cylinder stack is annoying thought bad desighn for repairabillity
Hey man been watching the videos for awhile and ended up buying an 03 thundercat after going through the book realizing it’s supposed to have 6 gears but it stops @5 any chance you could help me maybe figure this out ?
Look up the parts and if the part numbers match then they should be interchangeable. I don’t think they are the same but do some research and let me know what you come up with. Good luck 👍 and thanks for checking out the channel
Are you going to do a video on the carburator clean too? Did the 2:nd gear issue appear suddenly? Or has it coming along the way if you know what i mean? Really good work 🙏🏻😃
You will notice the gear kick out in second gear and sometimes sixth caused by bent forks and then the shifter will jamb in gear or won't allow you into gear because of bent tab caused by the gear kicking out abruptly.
I've watched all of your Yamaha videos, my question is , I have a 2005 Yamaha YZF600r thundercat thats stuck in gear and it won't come out, I brought it like that, I checked inside the clutch and I believe it needs a new engine. Any idea where I can get one for a good price, my pockets are not deep like yours and I've been out of work for over 6 months. Thanks
If the carburetors need to be overhauled I would take it to a shop. If it’s just the “basics” like air filter, spark plugs, oil change. You could attempt those yourself
keep up the work too bro you might not be getting crazy views but you deserve it, you just gotta find your way of
hitting that algorithm.

Awesome music change splitting the case

Intresting video. I have an FZR 600 with a gearbow issue. Probably the same issue as this. Thank you!
The drum is usually recommended to be replaced also

I was really hoping those bolts weren’t buried in there
@@MattsMotoWoRX Why couldn't you remove the cylinder block before loosening those?
Is there anything i can do for prevention? for example a different oil viscosity? , oil level?, change the gear with more or less pressure?

Could you tell me if the R6 gearbox fits on thundercat ? ✌

Jimmie Breman Yes a carburetor cleaning video will be coming!!! Typically a shifting issue will gradually get worse unless something just breaks.

I have a 97 yzf600r, would you recommend I go to a shop for tune up and all? Or try to do it myself.

Iv got a 97 aswell lol i would recommend dropping a tooth in the front and up one in the rear👌

What is the part number for gear 2 and the forks?
4JH-17221-00-00 second gear
4TV-17261-00-00 sixth gear
4JH-18511-00-00 shift fork
Hi, how much the spare parts cost?
Where's the next video!?!
I am waiting on one gear ⚙️!!!! This COVID has every parts order backed up. As soon as it comes the video will be made I promise
Can't you get to transmission through the bottom without removing the top end
No it’s sandwiched between the top and bottom cases
I have 2002 r6 I went through bottom
