Recently, Donner sent me an electronic drum kit to check out, the DED-400. For a first-time drummer, I think it's pretty good, but the price is a bit steep for the included sounds and features.

Congralations 🎉🥁for new drums
Thanks to the comment!
I was about to get this specific one last month. Luckily ended up with the Alesis Nitro, so this video confirms my joy in what I purchased!
I made my purchase based off a review of this product by an online drummer I watch without doing much other research as it was the lowest priced unit available to me at the time. The disappointment builds as I gain skill, and when I try to add in the extra tom and cymbal as there are ports to plug them in, Donner does not sell individual units to add on, amazon does have a cymbal kit for nearly a quarter the price of the drums. correction the price shot up 200 bucks since August 2022 so I guess its about 1/8th the cost. and DAW software seems to totally ignore the entire Donner lineup of ekits. I wish I bought an Alesis instead.
@@Mikej1592 yep I'm just about getting to that point too. Donner has no presets in EZdrummer and when I asked their customer support about an extra crash cymbal they actually said they replied saying they don't sell the parts separately... I sent them the overpriced Amazon link to query that and they then changed their answer to saying it was out of stock.... Wish I got an alesis too.
Alesis nitro doesn’t have dual zones which is quite bad!
@@Mole460 the ride has no bell, the one I bought has snare, toms , crash dual zone and ride 3 zones.. bigger pads that nitro
company advertised that this is expandable to add a 4th tom, but have no plans to actually sell the tom. they do sell the crash/ride expansion.
I've bought this edrum as my first one and I'm having a blast! It's so fun I'm starting to think I've finally found my instrument!
I've got a question tough, how do i change sounds via MIDI? I can't seem to find anything...does anyone has any usefully links or explanations?
I had the same problem with my ride, it doesn't trigger correctly. If I watch the screen on the module it seems to be always triggering the edge, not the bow. I swapped it with the other cymbal pad and now the ride is correct but the crash has the same issue, so it's something in the pad rather than the module or the settings (I've played with those as well).
Hey, at 8:45, how did you slide those cymbal stands in so easily? I can’t seem to fit mine in as easy, I was wondering what you did there that made it so effortless?
I’m not sure, but I’m guessing I loosened the wing but pretty far before trying to put them in.
@@NickCesarzDrums How did you loosen the thing? I can’t seem to figure out how to loosen it so it can go in all the way
ded200 is weirdly a huge upgrade and changes a lot of the stuff you said
Have you tested the Simmons Titan 50 yet? I picked one up for my son for 379 usd and canceled the Donner DED-300 I originally ordered.
I am actually about to buy the donner ded-300 because it's $340 right now, why did you prefer the Simmons?
The simmons has a better module and capable of upgrades (better sounds and they are making new kits. The Mesh heads are also good. With the Donner you get what you get. Also simmons pads trigger better. That's why.
@@acem9930 thanks I went with the simmons!
@@diddlybop I think you will enjoy it. I have been having fun with my son's Simmons kit. I also tested it with my Roland TD 27 module and it works well with it, so it's a good kit if in the future you decide to upgrade the module. I also picked up a 12-inch snare drum and used the Simmons snare as a floor tom. I do like some of the kits from the Simmons that my Roland doesn't have. I especially like the Latin kit. I'm hoping they release the downloadable Simmons kits soon.
@@acem9930 thats really good to know! I have been using the titan 50 and absolutely love how you can just play drumless songs from your phone and hear it through the drum set via bluetooth!! Thank you soooo much your comment got me started looking at simmons and I’m so glad!
does easy drummer work with the ded200 as well?
Yes it should. I haven't used it myself, but the website says it has USB capability. EZ Drummer may not have a preset mapping for Donner's kits (I can't recall right now), so you may have to program the mapping yourself in the software.
You just have the cymbals backwards, that's why you can't choke the crash.
Yep bro you are 100% right I realized that later 😅
HI, is compatible with roland?
The pads and cymbals should br
The hi hat can't be choked, you flip flopped your pads
Yes, you're right. Total mistake on my part!
Glad you guys caught it -that was a big turn off
again, another person unboxing a totally legitimate not in any way customized for a youtuber or anything. The kit I got, that I ordered directly from Donner because it was cheaper than it was on amazon, came with a horribly cheap throne and garbage unlabeled un marked sticks that were so warped it's not even funny. Seriously there is like half an inch deflection in the middle of one stick if you lay it on a flat surface it won't roll off at least... I put them in my backpack when I go to work so I can practice on the armrest of the chairs in the conference rooms. I work nights so not disturbing anyone. Other than that the kit is brilliant for either a beginner or someone getting back into drumming after 30 years like myself.
I just highly suggest while waiting for your kit to arrive to either go to a music store or buy a few sticks online that don't hook like the arc of a bowler trying for a strike and pick up a better throne. look in the $100 range for something sturdy especially if you're tall and 200# monster like myself. The throne that came with my kit felt like the seat was going to snap off if I lean too far to one side, it creaks and squeaks when I would lean or turn and was really not tall enough for me.
to clarify what I mean about " customized for a youtuber" you are the second youtuber review of this kit I watched where the kit you got was different than the one I got, your sticks were labeled and I noticed you didn't mention they were curved in any way. Seriously mine were like they left them sit out in the rain for a couple days then tossed them in my box
Similar to you the throne I got is...wobbly, at best and it just doesn't sit high enough for me. I think I got a 'youth' size throne or something. One of my sticks was warped as well, not quite as bad but now I just use it to prop windows open when the weather's nice.
@@matthewjayjack8143 another great use for their sticks LOL
Just get Alesis... much much better quality in every Point...
And IMO ... that's a not so bad Video/ Review/Gear Check whatever...
But your Drumming is... Not even "beginner"...
Thnx
No company beats EFNOTE kits
Yeah but you are talking about something like 4× the price...
Those high hat patches sound horrible.
Completely agree.
