  • Hey guys, this is a follow up to my original affordable electronic drum sets video (alesis nitro vs. donner ded-200). This video is to show you what we ended up with and why, as well as how myself and my drummer are using the kit and how to hook it up in your DAW.

Exactly what I was looking for. I'm a guitar player, but I hate using programmed drums to the point I want electric drums and would practice to record basic drums for my music. I'm into metal so this video was EXACTLY what I needed. I also play jazz.. I honestly can't wait to get this

Hey Taylor I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate your info and input. I have ALWAYS loved the drums. My dad played guitar, sister keyboards and flute and brother played bass. I started playing snare in elementary school, then moved to a 4 piece kit in middle school jazz. I played football and was on the marching band but my coach said I had to pick one or the other. I chose football and haven't really played since. I'm 44 now and music is my greatest love so I've been wanting to get back into drumming and have researched like a madman. This has put me over the edge and as soon as I'm done with work today I'll be ordering the alesis Nitro Mesh. Thanks again Taylor you rock 🤘🏻🤘🏻

Extremely helpful video - glad I stumbled into your channel!
I started playing guitar yeeeeears ago, and as soon as Rock Band came out, I realized that Drums were my true and natural instrument. Been looking into getting a cheaper electronic kit to play/practice and record with Midi (everything you covered in your video!).
Can't stress enough how helpful this video was - many thanks, my friend! Professional video, well edited, great speaking voice/cadence, and most importantly - great info delivered in an understandable way! Keep up the great work!

Profiling the Dunc! Cool to see him jam a little bit. Would be really cool to see more of that, some actual playthrough stuff for Sacrificer with multi angle cameras, some different fun content like that in the absence of live music. Cheers!

That kit sounds really good. Been eyeing up a Roland VAD 306 and hooking it up to Superior Drummer.

Awesome sauce. Ekits are great for getting that real feel down. I agree, over-quantization kills the mood especially in metal. It should be a little out of control in parts.
    Cheers man

Totally with you on keeping metal drumming "organic", post production can suck the whole essence from "dirty" track. Another excellent video, I bought the Donner ded200! The kit is great, unfortunately the module is very basic, so I've an Alesis one on order. Keep up the good work :)

I have the exact same setup. Same Alesis kit, I also added an extra cymbal, replaced the kick pedal, replaced the double kick pad, I also record MIDI and use Alesis mono out to monitor. Actually I use the FRFR for that. It would be nice to have two FRFRs for the full stereo space. :)

I was on the fence but you sold me on the Donner I was leaning towards them anyway but after the extras that come with it. then hearing the side by side comparison. Donner sounds better. I'm not recording and the double bass sounded like it was triggering better? if you think I should see something else or? I'm gonna do a but more reaserch. my stimulus is in my bank just not posted yet so another week of reaserch then I will 100% decide but as of now Dinners in the lead!.. Cheers p.s. Great channel

Oh man, when you posted the poll about MIDI drums I did not even consider this as being what your were talking about. All I could think of was typing a long series of the number 36 in Guitar Pro 5, as well as other numbers to make drums. :(

I definitely agree about preferring a real drummer on an e kit as opposed to a real drummer being quantized and time aligned. There are applications for mechanical drums with that level of precision, but unless it's industrial metal, it doesn't really work in the context of extreme metal

I'm looking to purchase a cheapish e drum set. Should I try to get one that has a UXL midi connection. My audio interface has UXL midi in/out and I assumed that would be better than a usb midi. Or..... am I wrong about this?

  • @allenfertgus354

Important question. Didn't like the drum heads on the alesis kits. Ordered Donner DeD200s and I like the interface module of the Alesis nitro more than the DED200s module. Can you run DED kit under a Alesis module? I see you talk about mix match pads between Donner, Alesis and Roland. So I can only assume I can order Alesis interface module and find myself heaven, is it doable folks???

Can you essentially use any module despite what brand the kit is? For example could I use every component of the donner kit except use an alesis module? I’m sure at some point I will get bored of the different kits and songs donner has to offer and would like a way to be able to try out more kits and sounds.
Or would using a vst plug-in be my best bet?
I’m a beginner with electronic drum set technologies and how to use 3rd party plug ins. If anyone has a good link on how to download/set up vst and other plug ins into the module please reply in the comments. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Stay positive, have fun, and rock on to my fellow drummers 🤘🏻🎧

No one in their mind would keep midi in the grid and copy-paste it. Any real playing drummer will go through midi snippets and tweak it the way he naturally would play it -the timing and velocity, accents. It always sounds indistinguishable from real articulation and in the mix - as 100% as real drums ( considering using all well known IR techniques )

@@Rj-jm8vm It just gives you a lot more flexibility with the sounds you want out of your drums and typically the drum sounds you can achieve with midi are a lot nicer than the ones that come pre installed.
