    There's a SUPER-EASY way to get the ring gear properly aligned on the diff cup. Simply insert two toothpicks into "counter corner" screw holes on the diff cup, then place the ring gear over the diff cup, making sure the toothpick go through the corresponding holes. After that, you can install the first two screws, remove the toothpicks, and then install the last two screws. Works perfectly every time, no matter what brand/model the diff is for.

      @@RazorRC You're welcome. One of the other guys at the track (yes, Nor-Cal) told me that trick about a year ago. I've rebuilt 6 diffs since then, using it, and it works 100% of the time.

    Everytime I have rebuilt my Stampede 4x4 diffs and put the blue seals on the sun gears the diff leaks. You have to install the seals inside the groove in the diff cup and on the ring gear and then no more leaks.

    I am currently waiting on the seals for rebuilding my stampede 4x4 diffs. I opened both of them up and found that the seals somehow got caught in the gears and were completely chewed up. I had been wondering for a while why my diffs were leaking grease. This has helped quite a bit.

    Very important to take your time and do it like you just did. Those Orings and gaskets get munged up and you will have a MESS in your gear boxes! I do mine with a little Red and Tacky grease but otherwise I do my diffs the same. Newbies should see you install and shim the diff in the housing as well. Too tight and you stress out the electronics and cause heat damage. Too loose and you skip gears and shred diffs. I'm a big fan of your channel thank you for the interesting content for us RC gear head nerds 😎👍🤙

    Great video! Thank you! My question is this; how do you get the rear differential housing out? I got my stampede VXL disassembled to the point where I can touch the gears and housing, but can’t get them out to open it up. Any videos on this process?
    Thanks again for the awesome video!

    Great vid! I would recommend you to get X0-1 diff housings that come with crosspin metal supports. Did that on the nitro revo. Also, do you know how thick are those o-rings? Traxxas blue x-rings are great but too soft for the application, and must lube them with green slime, they get swollen with black grease.

    • @RazorRC
      @RazorRC  4 роки тому +2

      that's a nice upgrade. Don't know the specs on the o-rings, sorry

    • @CSL33
      @CSL33 Рік тому

      Yeah, most black greases like the TLR one used here are lithium based, which is also petroleum based, and does not play nice with those blue silicone x-rings. Green slime is indeed one option, but so is silicone grease such as Traxxas 2716. If none of those are available, just use whatever diff lube/oil in whatever weight you have. Also, I've found that after applying grease to the x-ring, it's best to place them into their respective carrier and ring gear grooves first, and THEN pushing the greased output shafts through them.....

    Hey Razor, question for you regarding these diffs. Some of the models like the XO-1 use an I-Bar in the diff and some rcs such as this P4de don't. Do you think the I-bar offers more stability and strength? If you had the choice would you rather the diff have the i-bar or not? There would be more diff fluid if the i-bar was not there. Just curious your thoughts on this. take care!

    What oils you recommend front/rear diffs for loose dirt empty lot bash/racing style ? I will be using upgraded slipper clutch but if I were to use a center diff for empty lot light bashing what would I use for center diff oil ? Btw thank you so much for your info on rc-ing in general you really give a in-depth outlook on everything and it’s not overwhelming for people new to the sport ...I like to call it that hobby is great but I feel soon rc-ing will be back and go past it’s highest popularity ever and it’s ok to laugh but the traxxas slash will do it lol it’s just that I got my kids two of them for Christmas and now I have 8 so my kids cousins wanted some now my neighbors it’s getting lil crazy I know about couple dozen people that have one now it’s only been 2 months since Christmas I just came from dnc my kids seen for free was amazing now they want nitro buggy’s !!! what have I created and it’s a lil your fault to for making it so accessible lol 😂 but any how hope you see this and if you don’t thanks anyway

    Awesome video! Thanks! I just bought a Stampede 4x4 2nd hand, and I'm wondering if I should redo the diffs. This is my first RC that I want to do maintenance on so it sounds daunting. I'm the third owner, and I already need to replace the bearing and adapter next to the spur gear, but I'm not sure of re-doing the diffs. Is there a way to check without opening it up if they need maintenance? That said, when removing the diff and spinning the wheels freely I can hear the gears.

    I bought a used 4x4 stampede with this leaking issue.. Can I just run it without the oil? I'm on a brushed motor doing like 15mph max... I do want to eventually fix it but the repair kit is sold out

    Hi friend, I'm from Brazil and I have some questions. I would be very happy if you would help me! I have already discovered that it is necessary to apply grease to the outer gears of the differentials, but I really wanted to know if I should also grease the gears of the engine. Example: 6448 parts: Spur gear, 8985: Input gear transmission, both from Traxxas Maxx. Another question is that the center differential gear comes into contact with a motor gear, should I grease it too? Part 8988. Inside Driveshaft 8949, do I also need to apply grease?

    • @RazorRC
      @RazorRC  3 роки тому

      8949 no, it is plastic, so there is no need. 8985 yes, 6448 yes.
