after 4 years of watching this man, i finally have a bass! thank you for being an inspiration
Nice one.
That's amazing dude, I listen to a lot of Grunge, Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots, especially TOOL, I've played bass for close to a year now and it's still hard for me at times but it's definitely worth it, don't give up no matter what. One last thing, if your fingers start hurting, then that's when it's time to stop, pulling a muscle in one of your fingers could paralyze your entire arm. And if your fingertips start peeling and forming calluses, that's actually a good sign, don't quit man, keep going and I promise you'll see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Congrats, bro!
Me too!
Go get em, new slapper
Davie’s so good that he played the drums whilst slapping that bass
maracas too
His bass playing commanded the drums to play on their own.
As well as live telepathic multi camera control. No wonder he's 504, 503 was not big enough for his abilities.
4 string guitar*
I think his dog was on drums
I play the piano, I have a lot of appreciation for the bass. Wether it is a double bass or electric bass, this instrument is severely underrated. Bass is what holds the whole song together, and even sounds great solo.
THANK YOU, FINALLY SOMEONE WHO REALIZES ITS CALLED BASS BECAUSE IT IS THE LITERAL BASE OF THE SONG
you mean you play the 88-string percussive sit-down bass
@@L3ftyMeBoyoI would argue that drums are more of the base imo
@@Luftmysza. no. it is bass AND drums
I started playing bass when i was 14 because of you. Im 18 now and still slapping the bass. Thank you very much for being an inspiration to me hope you are having an amazing life with your wife 💯
Davie , i have been watching you since i was 13. I'm 19 now. I even got my first Cort bass when i was 15 because u inspired me to get it. Just wanna say , you are amazing and you make my day so much better when you post a video. Love you and hope you & your wife are having an amazing time :)) Bye!
Exact same story for me 😂
☺️🥰
Cort was an obvious choice for me too 😍
@@Turbigoo GG's :))
@@drunkengunman really ? amazing dude
Davie you make my day happy your one of the UA-camr that inspire me
He sure is one of the youtubers 😁
Look at davie man so inspirational
@@Rossklesone of the UA-camrs of all times
I was 18 years old since I discover you, and you're my inspiration to play bass cause you make bass interesting to play or fun to play. Now that I'm 25, I finally acquired my own bass. I'm not yet better at playing and I know that there's more room to improve my skills. THANK YOU DAVIE FOR BEING AN INSPIRATION FOR ME ❤❤❤
Love the look and sound of this! Wish I had something like this. As far as what's special about it compared to your other basses can't really pinpoint anything super specific besides it sounding like you're tuned down a halfstep. The maple neck with that matte black looks sick
This bass sounds louder and stronger than the other basses David played before. It has a bright and clean sound(but it’s probably because David is so good at bass)
Because it has active pickups
@@franlopardoyes! My first thought. All active basses are not created equal, this has some very strong, rich tone. I’d love to know what components it has.
@@franlopardo I think he also has flatwounds on it, whereas he normally uses roundwounds.
@@TurtletheShell good point!
It's a metal bass?
Your bass has some active pickups, EPIC tone for sure ! Also in drop D tuning
They are SlapUps ..letter compound pick is forbitten :D
Active pickups (EMG?) and alternative (lower) tuning are the differences.
@@AxundSaid i think they mean the Pickups. Yknow, the reverb things that make it so that the sound comes out of the amp?
It's actually in D standard. But yeah
Right? I thought active pickups for sure.
It is so good to see you are back! You are the reason why I am looking at basses after playing guitar for thirty years!
you and me are roughly in the same situation lol 25 years of playing guitar.
This is sooooo catchy! Sounds amazing!!
Finally a 2022 Squier Contemporary Active Jazz Bass video!!
I’ve seen that bass at my local music store but in a blue metallic finish, it looks awesome and plays really nice as well. Love the active pickups on it as well, absolutely biting tone and it’s great
The pickups are passive but the pre-amp is active
@@EJSjjhcould be a newer version with active pick ups, i havent seen these pick ups in most jazz basses I see
@@EJSjjh I’ll be honest and say that I get them mixed up sometimes, mainly because I have an active Music Man StingRay
They are SlapUps ..letter compound pick is forbitten :D
Tbh i really enjoyed this video. Your bass playing was amazing :)
Seriously, this is one of the best sounding and best looking basses I’ve seen you play.
I started playing bass 6 weeks ago thanks to people like Davie504, CharlesBerthoud, EllenPlaysBass and Juliaplaysgroove. Watching you all made me want to do it myself. I am a trained violinist and I hope to make progress, even though I am 40. Thank you.
That's wild. I'm a 41 year old trained violinist who's picked up guitar and bass in the last 6 months. It's very fun.
@@FizzyP how is it going? Are you learning with some yt lessons or maybe you meet a bass teacher in real? do you play some songs? Do you feel that violin helped you or not? 😊
@@floralbassist It helped a lot. Already having a good sense of time and understanding how music theory works is a huge out of the way so I just have to focus on mechanics specific to the guitar/bass. The basics aren't hard on these fretted instruments aren't that hard. I'm making progress very quickly.
How about you?
@@FizzyP hard to say, too little time. I play scales and passages and always begin my practising doing them. I practise some basslines I like, now they are: Offspring "Why don't you get a job", Toto "Africa" and some easier stuff, because I just want to feel the success playing with the song 😊 I focus on doing the plucking in the right way, and how to mute sounds I don't want to sound. Usually I watch @BassBuzz. Also I try to slap, but as far I fail most of the time...
just got the spot as bassist in my school's jazz ensemble. Looking for inspiration in everything you make Davie, keep it up
Probably my favorite piece I've heard you play yet! And that's a high bar, keep it up!
UNBELIEVABLE! Fantastic bass playing!!
It's a Squire Jazz Bass with active soapbars, and it sounds awesome. No idea what kind though. Love the gunmetal-ish finish too. Whatever is going on there, I want one.
It's a Squier Contemporary Active Jazz Bass HH.
I own the olive green one.
Very epic rock and metal bass playing 😁
My best part is from 1:12 to 1:45 the clean tone and the solo amazing.. at the end it started to be more metallica tone 😁 masterr massteeerrr
After decades of thinking about learning to play bass I've just last week started actually attempting it. Davie you're an inspiration and I can only hope to one day be nearly as skilled and cool as you. Keep slapping.
This is the man who made me get into music Thank you so much Davie
❤❤❤❤❤
You rock dude. I really like when you bust out new solos. Great stuff
This bass has a unique EPICO sound to it! The pickups are quite different I see. Keep slapping Bass King! 👑🔥🎸❤
Love your videos, you really inspired me to play the guitar.
Great to hear some discords and metal vibes in amongst the funk, Cliff Burton would have been proud. That nod to Master of Puppets at 1:54 too, great stuff
I love it, it’s a good sound , good or excellent pounch! And your execution it’s super well
Always love seeing a performance video! Great jam!
Started to play bass. Inspired by you! Hope you can keep posting vids
Nice BASS your vids make me keep wanting to play bass and make me want to keep getting better thanks
Absolutely insane solo very cool to watch love seeing you post more BASS i will SLAPP like now
I need more BASS ... really miss you Davie
bruh the bass solo was the most epic solo I ever heard it. thanks for blessing my ear with that bass solo
Omg that bass sounds flipping fantastic!!!
Bass is king, davie is queen
Bass ist queen, davie is king
Lmao
There was something like this in history of Polish kings...
That is sus
He’s my queen
loved the slap and the temp changes. It has a nice finish and it looks like two humbuckers? Sounds great!
Love your work Dave. You made me take out my guitars (sorry dont have a bass). Its been 20 years since I've played. So at 60 years old i starter playing again. Much love to you and your wife. ❤
My bass was colleting dust in the past few months, but thanks to Davie i will finnally try to learn how to play it properly, thank you Davie for the inspiration, i really appreciate it
Love your work. You inspired me to buy bass and start playing it. Well, slapping. Keep up the good work. is that your first bass?
Davie I need you know that you are the reason I have chose to play the bass you inspired me keep up the good work
Very impressive!
We all appreciate the hard work you put into your videos you make Davie just to entertain us all, keep up the great work!
looks like a Squier contemporary pbass. If so that would mean it has active pickups. However, I would say what is so special abut it is that you, Davie504 are the one playing it and making it sound so great!
It is. But it's a relatively rare one. It's an FSR, Fender Special Run. So it's a Limited Edition. I don't think that's what makes it so special. But that might be all it is. The fretboard is a little different than the others I've seen in that series. So it could be a customized version of it. Or maybe an off batch of the limited run. Which would make it very rare.
Personally, my guess is that he won it in a contest or was gifted to him by someone he respects. Which, combined with its relative rarity, I could see myself not wanting to ever play it out either.
I enjoy when you're meme-ing and enjoy when you're just reasserting your dominance on laying down a thicc groove. Thanks for all the content and inspiration!
grooving it! great job!
This makes me wanna make a bass guitar with built in drum loops on a switch that connects on a speaker inside the guitar
Davie, I started watching you a few years ago and then about two weeks later my band asked me to fill in on bass for a song. Skip a few months later and I got a bass from my uncle. Thank you for using your cosmic bASS power to send that to me
That ring looking really good on your hand!
Starting just 6 months ago, this was nearly the first bass I bought! Ended up going for a Sire Marcus Miller v3 in the end, but only because my teachr has a v7 and I figured this would help him help me find the tones I want.I still think that was a big brain strat, but this vid does make me reconsider.
To everyone watching: this is a good bass, not just for the (quite affordable) price, but good period.
Squier is killin’ it right now!
They have been for a while now. There are some fairly high end Squire guitars these days, too. It's not how they started, but you gotta love where they're going!
@@KarstenJohansson Yeah, I bought my bass (OG white Deluxe Active Jazz 5 with phenolic fingerboard) 13 years ago and it’s sick.
I used to recommend G&L Tribute, but the amount of razor blade fret ends those get and just the feel… nah.
They only have 1 Floyd-Rose equipped guitar model in 2 weird colours, but so much variety otherwise! They get crazy.
I bought my Tele knowing I was replacing the neck eventually (aluminum from Hoxey), but the stock one is fantastic! 70s accurate not-quite-baseball-bat. Great finish. Fantastic fret treatment…
I’m changing out that bridge, but that’s not build quality, just old, flawed design. Also, I want a bridge that’s insanely high-mass. Trying for a lap- pedal steel type sound.
The pickups are good. Rocking tone, nice cleans. I’m putting real CuNiFe ones in, but that’s years down the line.
Notice that I will have ship of Theseus-ed this thing into a body and pickguard eventually, but I didn’t neeeed to. I’m just insane.
@@GretchZ I was overseas on a gig for 8 months, and ended up buying a Squire to practice. It had those razor fret ends. When I got home, I filed them and then replaced the pickups with a set from an old Charvel guitar. I use that guitar a lot now 'cos it's so good with just those two changes.
@@KarstenJohansson I have weird, soft skin (Ehlers-Danlos syndrome) so those frets ruin my hands.
I used to live near a friend’s guitar shop and go there most days, and it gets really dry in MN during the winter. I used to try to always carry an old nickel with me just to rub up and down the side of a new arrival’s neck so I could play it without doing serious damage to my hand.
Sliced right in.
@@GretchZ Never heard of the nickel method, but it certainly would round off the edges. I have a fair amount of guitar repair/maintenance tools, so I use a proper filing block, which minimizes scraping the neck itself, too. The nickel idea is probably a fair choice when it's a one-off job. Or maybe the edge of a quarter.
Also never heard of E-D syndrome until now, but it has some cross over with Marfan, which I do know about since I have *two* acquaintances with it. Marfan doesn't really affect the skin though. Just the bones and joints - they can do all the same bendy flexy tricks!

Every time Davie uploads i get motivation to practice my drum playing for some reason.
Fantastic solo/song. Love the bass, love the davie. just love.
Now that's a crisp sounding BASS I love it!
what a good bass it sounds very precise and I really like the black color on the bass it contrasts well with the melody I could never miss the video of my idol
I think i'm going to be sick...
Always impressed to see the skills of a musician gliding over his BASS like its nothing
That bass just wants to groove!
Thank you so much, Davie. Although I'm a guitarist, not a bass player, but after I watched a few of your videos, you inspired me to return to the guitar.
only BASS
@@martinb5626unfortunately, I don't have a bass, but I try to play guitar like a bass because it helps me develop the concept of soloing.
While you're more associated with Stingray style basses these days it's really cool to see you back on a Jazz style bass! This thing has a unique glassy tone for a Jazz Bass too. Did you get a Signature deal with Squier? Very cool.
Hey man, you should do bass reviews videos too, you will do it really great!
This beat is slappin 👀🔥🔥👌👌
This legit might be your best sounding bass. Damn.
Agree
It proves that it doesn't matter what's on the headstock.
I was thinking the same thing. It's a Squire Jazz but those are soapbar pickups and it looks like a roasted neck
@@nodoor9132it's a squier contemporary active jazz bass, the pickups are "sqr"
@@error-xo7hrorry to ask, but what does sqr mean?
This bass made me realise that i need to wear headphones as it doesn't sound that nice out of my phone speakers, but with headphones the bass just sounds absolutely amazing
Davie, i love your content on the hub it is very high quality.
Thanks Davie, I've ben watching you for few years, now I'm bassist since april because of you, thanks a lot
Man Squiers have gotten crazy good. I got a CV70's P bass a couple years ago and the thing is a cannon.
Came here more faster than a slap bass
such excellent skill
Very psychedelic arrangement… 🚀
Been following your journey from your early tutorial years.
And your musical growth is just … admirable! ☯️
Haven’t seen davie shed like this in a while BIG 👍🏻
This bass has Active pickups! Very epic tone
And of all things it's a Squier!

The man and the bass just radiate coolness everyday all day wow epico
Idk about the bass but this is a sick solo - I love hearing Davie expand to some new harmonies from what he typically plays!
Gotta thank you for getting me into the bass
Davie's slap is too powerful
When new video? Lol
I'm not sure what's the special thing about this cool bass but it sounds incredible. Probably because a master is playing it. 🔥
I think it was his first bass, then he upgraded the pickups.
amazing song!
Omg. Amazing solo
It is tuned in F-C-G-D instead of G-D-A-E?
The pickups?
Both?

Also has flatwounds on it
Remco is also a beast!
@@milkwalkerjones633 Ah! Thanks! that's what it is. I was wondering why the highs seemed toned back. I thought originally it was how he had the active EQ set up but flats makes perfect sense.

Revealing, not improving.
That bass slaps so good.
that solo was epic
I'm guessing that ANY bass becomes special when Davie is playing it.
What's special about this bass, is that it's been played by best bassist in history. 😊
